  1. Thanks - It was a lovely time of teh evening :)
  2. Driving to town & back :) ;) "it's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll" around 200km the round trip, actually . and this as well ..
  3. It's a cheapie ..and has it's foibles& faults ..BUT we are learning what it likes, & what it doesn't ;) Tamron 70-300 , no frills .Around 130 dollars.
  4. Glad he's stopped the diarrhoea - and he may not poo just yet because what he is eating is MUCH less than normal , and will mostly be digested ..and not have much waste to be pooe'd out. perhaps mix the rice/chicken /real food with 2/3 rice& chicken , 1/3 real food ...and increase the intake .
  5. LINK tennis ball size- hollow - treats can be poked in- it bounces , rolls, and Don loves chewing it , dropping it, and watching it bounce, It may not last very long fore really serious players - but I love how flexible it is ..and it doesn't have the rubber smell! :)
  6. that looks fine :) Another thing - keep coat well brushed - often it's the woolly /dead hair which sometimes forms a nice layer under which the skin doesn't dry ..and teh 'bugs' get a toehold .I imagine corgis coats to be a bit like labs - who can be plagued by these darn things :)
  7. My aunt got her last dog in her mid 70's ..a cairn terrier pup! Both survived ..and dog died well into double figures.
  8. Yoiks! you have two entire males , with bull breed genes . Cisco will now be feeling like a MAN -- and he will react differently than he did as a baby. he will smell male, act male ..and , well, ...... When they do fight... yes, it's serious Definitely feed apart now - out of sight..and pick up bowls immediately . NO two dogs in the yard when one has a favourite plaything LOTS of training with each of them definitely get both castrated - NOT 'snipped' as in vasectomy , as that will not stop the testosterone .. That's all I can think of now ..hopefully someone else will provide more for you to work with :)
  9. 'Chicken' legs are hardly the same as bones from a mammal - they are constructed to be light - so have a lot of air spaces, They are also not hard from weight bearing, really , as the poor chooks only live 6 weeks or so, and don't walk much at all... Remember , dog stomachs are made to digest bone ..and I think chicken bone would digest pretty quickly before causing problems . I have fed, and do feed them ...but prefer feet , or turkey wings :)
  10. We have noticed we talk a fair few out of it when they really see what it entails but the feedback is great There is a lot in it about ethics and decision making - long term consequences etc that isnt available any where else. Its not as heavy on the technical side as you can get info on heat seasons etc everywhere It just covers stuff it took most of us decades to know. I will try & remember it for friends who are interested :)
  11. if it were my dog - NO. It's not fair to either of them it will do your dog damage which could also lead to problems :( We must have met very different dogs , brought up in different ways :)
  12. Silkygirl - you have received advice from breeders with many many years of experience. You have received advice from those to who study and genetics is high on their list , from those involved in dog health , and from those who have been there, done that. I hope you take this advice seriously. Why follow the 'mob' ? if everyone else wanted to breed dogs after seeing that some of them had teeth missing, or a deformed toe , or a kinked tail ..would you follow? Why not go the path that may not be popular , or may not lead to you selling puppies - but that removes that wonky gene from the breed- and helps make the risk of another puppy having the same problem much lower? dogs are MEANT to be born with tear ducts that work . Simple.
  13. no it's not. it stops they eyes/sinuses from working as they are meant to. IMO "cosmetic" is a few dark hairs on a white coat ... or an ear which has a slight bend in the flap ..or when a patch of fur/hair grows back that different shade after being shaved for anaesthetic .... Why do you really need to breed? IF you are doing it because you love the breed , and wish to better the breed - you would be best not adding a defect into the mix. an example - and, yes , In My Opinion dogs with malfunctioning tear ducts /tear stains should not be bred from .... I am not a fan of breeds where this is considered almost "normal", sorry.
  14. Just stop for a minute - When your dogs are obviously in trouble , and especially when one has a liver problem .. they do NOT need any more chemicals in their bodies this is shown by you posting that Charlie vomits after treatment I'm afraid there is is no way I would be using anything on my dog regularly if he vomited afterwards :( Don't panic and, please, until you find another vet , do NOT throw extra insecticide etc at them - that will not help at present .. Pls find another vet.. do NOT treat them for anything until the new vet has seen them . It is no help at all just re dosing with things , if you don't have a diagnosis . take a fecal sample (fresh) to a new vet ... and see what happens there .The only thing I would suggest is that a sample be tested for WHIPWORMS . Colitis can be caused by many things ..and you would do better by taking things slowly ..getting tests done, and getting new eyes to have a look :)
  15. keep a diary Every day . walks grooming washing visitors time alone visiting a park medications House cleaning carpet cleaning/deodorising dog bedding change gardening weed spraying food treats ( incl human food ) bones water bowls washed/changed is there anything which seems to happen a day or so before they get sick?
  16. and this is what you would be passing on to other owners should any puppies have this problem Breeding is ideally about bettering the breed.. and helping correct mistakes...not breeding using stock with a known serious problem
  17. Any condition which requires surgery just to get a "normal' function does not need to be part of any gene pool.
  18. here is this morning's Don shot. and a reminder that he does have his own FB page ;) edit to add I do so love that face ................ and the laughs ...and the fact that having one lab grandparent shows so well in carrying toys everywhere, chewing :/ and drooling! :) Oh - and cuddliness :)
  19. for her chewing - why not give her chicken wings /carcasses? those bones are much softer than nylabone ..and much healthier :) Hope the vet visit goes well.
