  1. I would never recommend electric containment for a baby puppy . is there a reason why you cannot make a pen/section of yard with solid or netting? A fence like this also offers protection for a toddler as well - and if netting is small, or tin is used - snakes may be stopped ! a good solid (not soft) crate will be invaluable :) Good thinking :) I really do think a separate 'safe area ' needs be created :) I remember when we we little (also rural) dad fenced off an area off the kitchen ... where we could be relatively safe , but still closely supervised. it was lawn - with a peach tree, some roses ... dogs & kids all loved it :)
  2. My first dog for which I was mostly responsible was a mini foxie - I was about 7 at the time . She saw me thru my school years - and my first dog as an almost adult was a miniX wirehaired dachshund ....Both dogs were tough, and loyal, and , living bush, had plenty of outlet for their energy/hunting instincts .
  3. more important than changing food , at this point is that you KNOW the breeder is one who has done all relevant health tests of the parents - that the pup's 'family' have been good sound dogs , and that the breeder's prefix can be found where dogs have been assessed as being terrific examples of the breed!
  4. Uncle Albers is a very cheap food - we used it for years for our working sheepdogs . I am presuming your breeder is registered with Dogs SA ..and has been researched checked out by you ?;)
  5. Have a read of this it may help ? https://www.flickr.c...57633707501537/ https://www.flickr.com/groups/1418686@N25/discuss/72157628026317903/
  6. TENA or POISE incontinence pads would work best - as they are deisgned to absorb quantities of urine almost instantly , unlike menstrual pads . you won't need ones with a huge capacity most of the time - so maybe the liners which hold the most ?
  7. aaah, those brown adorable lab eyes ............ they hide a thousand little evils ;)
  8. ivermectin will certainly help . I use probiotics, iron supplements ,and LOTS of good quality food - as much fresh as possible ..and a good variety :)
  9. Where?where? :) She likes couches ..and big recliner chairs ..and my bed .... ...
  10. our family's first family dog was a lab ..way back 50 years ago ... She just was treated like a(outside, mostly) dog ..and we all survived very well. I remember going to town and collecting this puppy out of the freight car - she came from breeders in "the city" ... *sigh* Brilliant kids' dog /nanny -.
  11. We also changed to Barko from Bonnie - and now use dog pro working dog with raw food. and have not had a problem. We have more than 4 - so yes - money is to be considered :)
  12. it does have a strong smell - yes. we used that for years for our working dogs - but have now gone to Dogpro working dog kibble , which they do well on , after getting a few bags of barko with weevils in ....
  13. Lovely :) Luther is a handsome , sleek boy !
  14. well done :) A story like that needs to be seen . :D
  15. Must admit to feeding puppies a bit like that lady - food is left adlib for the first few weeks - then there are several meals a day provided. We also use supercoat dry , which despite not being classed as a "good" food has grown our puppies well- provides puppies with the ingredients to produce little mini-log poos ..and keeps the weight nice. They get chicken wings /lamb ribs ..and also BIG bones with lots of meat on, so they chew the meat off over a period of maybe a half hour :) Your girl will get used to eating 3 or 4 times a day .. especially if one meal is a nice chicken wing - :) ( I don't use necks, as the shape of them scares me - they can be swallowed lengthwise and cause a blocked throat .) She isn't fussy at all - just reacting to all the changes - and wondering why the food is different . :)
  16. :) On any day , you would see so many photographs which contain items never in the original scene , believe me! If I alter an image - it is usually pretty obvious :)
