  1. get a good harness- and advice on how to fit it snugly :)
  2. Love it!! Thankyou . Speedy little beast
  3. Crates are NOT meant for puppies to live in - they are OK for night time ..and OK for when you are doing stuff inside and cannot watch puppy - but they are NOT an all day prison. if you cannot stop the kelpie getting into her pen .. then leave the pen indoors away from the kelpie ... be aware though - now Pup has been free range outside - crate training will take time . She will want to be with Archie, and will not understand why she is now confined .... it is TRAINING - not just shutting the door ... It is very unfair, and defeats the purpose, if a baby pup is left in a crate for hours - they just cannot hang on for that long! Remy needs the pen or somewhere during the day - so she can run and play ...
  4. I think I'll take bets on what he'll grow into! ;) ;)
  5. :) she is now learning toileting outside . Good . She is learning that being part of a dog pack outside is a better choice than being inside . Hmmmm... It is your choice - you want her outside ? OK - seems she is very happy to do so. I will suggest food be given indoors - several meals in the kitchen or somewhere ...so she is happy to come in. Find her very favourite toy /food and spend one- on -one time with her - just playing - doing early training. Put your other dog in his crate/pen/room with a special treat . The dogs need to learn to be alone ;) It takes time ...
  6. @ 5 wks ... there is a greenish tint to the eyes ....and more fluff!
  7. Vet check first - to make sure all is in working order. Then. offer one type of food only .. put meal down ..leave 10 minutes ,and collect bowl NO treats/other food until next mealtime . Repeat . It may take a couple of days. If he likes human grade meat - then there's your answer :) feed a mix of soft bones/meat :) Once he is eating well.. experiment with some yoghurt /eggs/sardines /cheese.... Not sure what he was intolerant to in the proplan - but chicken frames are great food , also turkey necks and wings (whole), as are lamb necks (WHOLE) pig head halves, pig tails, oxtails, chicken feet , tripe, lamb flaps , beef brisket bones ... heart, kidney, small amount of liver , brains ....he doesn't need much, if any , pasta/rice..and only a little vegetable/fruit .
  8. I am very grateful we don't have rats - just mice , in great number
  9. welcome, well, done, and we want more photos ;) It all sounds OK - just remember it may take several months before her & her bladder communicate properly . :) Continue with a toilet word - you will find it almost THE best thing your dog learns :) It means that she can/will toilet whenever/wherever is your choice ! Sounds as if you are starting her off well -
  10. A person who is an instructor at an obedience club should be ( IMO) a) more aware of the fact that random feeding is actually a form of disrespect to an owner .... and b) should be setting an example of how to behave around dogs & owners. I hope Jessie continues to improve and be happy - perhaps buy a set of these ! LINK
  11. the ingredient DIFENACOUM has a much lower toxicity rate than many others, thankfully. Grams of bait required to be fatal Bait Ingredient in commonly sold baits Mouse / Rat Dog Difenacoum 0.4 / 9.0 ```````````````````` ``````` 1000 Bromadiolone 0.9 / 5.6 `````````````````````` ``````` 200 Brodifacoum 0.2 / 1.3 `````````````````````````` `` 5 Warfarin 37.4 / 58 `````````````````````````` ``` 400 The ingredient coumatetralyl - there is this excerpt from a study done HERE do lots of label reading etc before placing any mouse/rat poisons around where pets/native raptors/lizards live .
  12. Glad to hear she is feeling better ! I am wondering, as a similar thing happens to me ..if dogs get angiodema? Angiodema is a severe swelling after allergy/injury/pressure . I have a tendency to it ..and it happens with allergens and surgery -- massive amount of localised swelling around surgery site ..gradually disappearing after some weeks . severe reaction to certain allergens - eyes closed..huge hives ,pain/shivering .. Any of our vets know if dogs can have this , and have it happen after incisions etc ?
  13. woo hoo!! MUST learn how to link to flickr/photobucket ..or reduce image size to under 300 kb & attach to a post ;) MUST. carrying him is great - means he stays away from parvo etc on the footpath/grass . he an have plenty of leash training/walking around your yard for now :)
  14. It wouldn't last long with all the sand/mud she trots thru ;) Nice idea though!
  15. T - can't find an express bag large enough ;)
  16. brings back memories of 30-something yrs ago - when I was working with Guide Dogs - and we were training dogs for Japan ..we had to sort out, and train dogs to use , a poo bag system - as there was nowhere for them to toilet the dogs not pleasant for anyone , really .... and imagine attaching/collecting/emptying them as a visually impaired person .....
  17. ..and why would it be a judgement ? if you rescued a lizard off a highway, or decided to chain yourself to a tree - and we said "well Done , you are doing the right thing!" Would that be a judgement ? No .... I also think you have done a good thing - it saves all sorts of hassles :)
  18. getting a cat to hunt the rats is probably condemning it to snakebite too use pelletised rat bait - that way they don't cart bits of wax block around ! The bait I bought recently and now use is stuff from HERE "The Big Cheese" The ingredient is one which is safer to use around animals/children . I will also highly recommend their live catch mouse traps for multiple catches ( but yes, you do have to kill the trapped rodents) !!
