  1. I always feed pups bones larger than their heads! that way they have quite a time chewing ..not three crunches and swallow ;)
  2. She is training you very well. although it should have happened when you first got her - it can still be done :) get her a nice big chicken wing - freeze it ..and leave her with it outside . definitely get a treatball and /or just use the smaller soft drink plastic bottles ! take off lids/ring around top - poke in tasty dry kibble and a few treats ... shake it , tip it slightly a few times to show her where the food comes out ..and leave her to it ! I strongly advise you do some reading - and if you click on these links, you'll find LOTS :) have fun. CLICK CLICK CLIK
  3. :) welcome to puppy hood. This is NOT separation Anxiety . It is a normal reaction of a change in routine - My guess is puppy has spent heaps of time not confined, and with you ... things have changed, and she is most annoyed and unhappy . puppies have a rule . If I yell & scream for 20 minutes - then she comes & gets me - then , next time, I can yell for 25 minutes , cos I know she will come get me :) Start off slowly . Feed puppy in the room .. let her go in & out .... do this a lot . Play with puppy in this room . have her VERY favourite toy for THIS room only :) Make sure there is worn clothing of yours there, so she has your scent . perhaps after feeding her in there for several days .. give the command, put her food down ..shut the door - for about 20 /30 seconds . then open it and carry on . make these times slightly longer maybe , each day? Does she yell & scream when left out in teh backyard?
  4. Over the many many years I an remember ,(prob. 40) with many entire bitches in our households.... we have had 3 pyos , with most of our bitches living well into their teens .
  5. Great update :) What a pretty bit of Licorice ;)
  6. I suggest you take her a good groomer , who can get rid of lots of that double coat - then show you how to maintain it :)
  7. the flokati rug DOES have legs :) I just found them ;)
  8. Smoke 'should' have a good genetic stamp - so in a few months , and if he grows some legs , he will be offered the opportunity to try out his skills on sheep :)
  9. Hi :) Hopefully someone an help . Can you tell us a bit more? what is your dog's day ? What do you do/what does he do in teh way of walks/training ? Where does he spend most of his time? How long has he been with you? Is he desexed? Does he bark at other things? is the barking in daytime, or night time?
  10. they are ingredients, yes. The powder maybe gets gradually moved to the outside in teh same way as wax? I don't know this one ...good point!
  11. Of course Smoke doesn't go anywhere yet - but those little legs carry the 'flokati rug' very well indeed ! They are too short for jumping - but I can hear him outside now playing with his daddy Don . Don gets a bit rough, being used to pigplay - but is absolutely besotted with his "new toy".
  12. Thornit is, AFAIK a mixture of "old" medicines ..mostly ones which have a 'disinfecting' property . It does sound a useful thing to have around for minor wounds and hotspots too :) Boric acid iodoform powder zinc oxide and talc as a carrier
  13. I agree :) The A/B's will reach bugs the drops won't . has your dog had her ears cleaned/treated whilst under G A ? That's often the only way to get a nice clean surface which allows drops etc to work properly ..and to let the vet have a good look.
  14. "Hey, Smoke ! wanna come to work today?" The Boss and his new fluffy slipper err, dog ;)
  15. Has she been to a vet at all? I think most vets have seen/treated dogs who have seizures - and her dog's normal vet would be my suggestion as a first step , as they would know the dog best .
  16. could be an infected hair follicle or something else entirely . vet is the best bet :)
  17. psyllium forms a thick gel which is indigestible ..so , imagine a gel /mince sausage ..... ;) Mince & celery is an odd diet :) Unless your dog has no teeth , staffies in particular LOVE getting their meat /bone as a meal ..like a whole turkey wing /neck , or beef brisket bone, oxtail, chicken frame... hewing is what dogs are meant to do ..and they love it!!
  18. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That showerchair/wheelies would be good for some poor oldie living in a room somewhere ...I would have given my left ^!^ for any of them when Mum was so ill .... we used a plastic chair & drilled holes in it TV units .... OMG. You did very well with your haul!! :)
  19. That's where this forum is so good :) you can ask for recommendations for anyone from a pet sitter, to a maker of special collars, to a behaviourist , and SOME-ONE will know! Love it :)
  20. he may have had a fright - and now, he is making his views know first ! I hope the person you consult is experienced and useful :)
  21. only beause I had noticed this site ages ago - and not beause I have tried their offerings :) CLICK here for books/DVDs on all things dog (Canada I think )
  22. Definitely does not sound like male aggression , but rather a fear/anxiety thing which, when you insist on exposing him , leads him to want to protect himself .if he can't run - then, well, he needs to bark/growl/hide. he looks very puppyish/submissive in that pic .Please don't desex him yet . Book in to a GOOD trainer/behaviourist . NOT necessarily the one with teh flashest website, the "guarantees" or the one you can see the quickest. The ones working in a franchise may also not be the most appropriate for this time . Kathy Kopellis-Mcleod has some excellent recommendations :)
