  1. you need to WATCH her like a hawk - no time out of your reach ..and , if you need to in teh early stages- carry her out ... say "toilet"... or "hurry" ..pick a word ... and say ONLY that, until she goes - then lots of praise- a little game , or a treat .. repeat, repeat . Definitely use a leash as soon as you have gotten her used to it ...
  2. How was she diagnosed ? I am presuming they did Xrays/blood tests & whatever else? Just wondering what led them to this diagnosis?
  3. Ask STEVE ..then, if he suggests it , choose a veterinary behaviourist .
  4. those eyes.......................... :)
  5. if she were mine , I would cut it shorter - to JUST shorter than her muzzle - still can't damage anything - but it would be much easier to live with/in :)
  6. didn't you notice this bit ?Talking about chi's ? <<mum's very partial to the breed and it's the only breed she's ever owned, she lost her beloved Bobby 12 mths ago and she's now ready for another>>
  7. my brother has a large tinnie ... I do not do boats/swimming...never been keen . I go in his boat maybe 3 x a year, if it's something special ;)
  8. ..and you might want to download THIS LINK .the breed doesn't much matter ...
  9. ... they don't make canoes my size . Some people do though, yes!
  10. This is presuming the dog is cold . What if he is too warm? A well fleshed healthy young lab, with a good coat shouldn't in my mind, be at all cold indoors with good bedding . being a bit warm can also make dogs restless ... what's the temperature in the room, Stressy ? is the crate under a window, or in a draft zone?
  11. I am a failed dog trainer . That black beast can be lying on my feet - then he accelerates from 1>60 in 4 seconds and is gone - after something moving , somewhere..... I mean - there HAS to be a rabbit/roo/goat/bird/sheep that needs chasing ... *sigh* It is much easier to have him on a longline than get frustrated ... yes, he does get a free run sometimes ..after I do a perimeter check & make sure NOTHING is moving withing 1/2 km !!! *sigh* He comes back brilliantly if there is nothing moving anywhere else ...
  12. By all means, take pup out& about - in a car , or a trolley, or by carrying . He needs to get to experience different sounds/sights/smells while a baby :)
  13. Honestly, if it bad - and caused by a fracture along a straight bone etc - all the fish oil in the world may not help ..if it's not in a joint . Amputation of the toe may be a solution down teh line .....
  14. check out the geriatric in her hoodie ;) 15 yr old senile delinquent - ever watchful of her enemy, Trouble !
  15. Not sure - all I know is that it's what I grab for , along with probiotics , for doggie tummy probs , and my old boy, Mitch used to have injections of it for his allergies .....
  16. Yoga mats / camping mats make good "igloos" - rolled around the bed so bed is in a tunnel ;) NON CHEWY DOGS ONLY! We haven;t used heating in the house for a couple of years , but when we used the slow combustion wood heater , I always had a couple of housebricks on the top , warming. during the day . Slid inside the old woollen explorer sock ..and tucked into bedding, these were used for old dogs, baby puppies ..and the odd person ;) They stay warm all night ...... using foil/reflective stuff? YES. Gertie's bed has as a base an old cover for a car fridge - it is canvas on the outside - foil stuff on the inside - and a perfect smaller dog size :) So - a reflective layer .. a hot water bottle - good woollen bedding ..and a cover - and this 15 yr old sleeps warm and happily outside :)
  17. for dogs that don't chew - I have a collection of good/new 3 litre juice bottles the clear plastic ones. the can be filled ( not right to lid) with very hot ( NOT boiling) water ... (just do up lid tight - hold bottle upside down for a few second to check for leaks) ..and then slid inside a large size explorer sock ..and tucked under one layer of blanket/bed . Make sure they are full enough, and on flat area so they don't "slossh" They stay warm for hours! Last night I did Gertie's - she sleeps on the porch . It was 3 deg here overnight - and her bottle is still warmish to touch :) I have been using these for years & years ..& have only had 1 leaky one that I remember .....
