  1. poor boy - perhaps his eyesight has deteriorated quickly? get a good vet to do everything - bloods, & eye check included
  2. Glad it did help ... and that she is eating . :)
  3. Hormones help with growth & development - remove hormones too early, and there may be effects because muscles etc didn't grow properly . Sphincter muscles , as in the bladder can be affected ..
  4. messy op, painful, and post op care can be tricky ....
  5. Someone commented that Gertie didn't look thrilled ... I know Gertie had two choices . Look Thrilled Stay upright . She's pretty wobbly , in about her mid teens .....
  6. IMO - the vet is not being truthful ..... MUCH cheaper and better for the little dog if she is speyed now - then there are no worries of pregnancy/whelping disasters. the vet perhaps wants the extra custom? IF this is what the vet said - there is a chance they did say 'let the bitch have a season' .... tricky in itself - and a horrible happening if a larger dog get near her
  7. I am evil elf lord ... I will destroy cat!
  8. have no idea about pet loos . if he is happy with fake grass - then a square placed on one of the conni pet pads may suit :) The conni pads absorb HEAPS , have waterproff backing ..and are machine washable - dry quickly
  9. I deally you need 'snuggly' stuff ... a wet viszla with almost no coat will get very cold very fast ... and if the kennel lets wind in ..or is exposed to the cold & wet , she won't get warm really .... I would also suggest some of those 'fleece' blankets .. and if you have an opshop near you - look there for cheap woollen blankets - wool is a perfect bedding, as even when damp it stays warm ..and can absorb a lot of moisture before being 'wet' . Here in the bush ..our dog kennels have raw wool piled in for the dogs in Winter - we are lucky :)
  10. .Hmmm... Living rural , I am much more sensitive to, and annoyed by barking dogs a mile or so away than I would be in the suburbs!! There are no other noises to 'block it out' ..or to get ears used to switching off ...and yes, I have lived in the city .... as for debarking - I have no real concerns if it means the dogs can remain alive & happy :) They still bark , but it is a lot softer noise ......
  11. ..It wasn't funny at the time ..just wanted to get out & up ;) caltrop & three corner jacks are horrible things
  12. I am so glad there were no cameras around an hour or so ago Something happened that has not happened for many many years - something which used to cause us much amusement way back when - when we were fitter and younger ;) Walking dogs ..and decided to take a closer look at a bush ....wasn't thinking ... next thing I know , I only had one leg above ground! Most of the other had disappeared into a rabbit burrow, thru its 'roof' made soft in the rain . Upon moving said underground leg I discovered that , along with the damp sand filling my sandal and covering my foot/lower leg were quite a lot of the hard, wickedly sharp 'three corner jack' prickles . These are not a favourite , as they can cause more inflammation & pain than a bee sting! Anyhow . Carefully clearing myself a prickle-free zone , and using the dog leash around a branch of the bush - I got out ..but onto my knees ( imagine an elephant kneeling) . My sandal was needed before I could put bare foot to ground , and I couldn't reach it !! "Don" "YEP:)" See my shoe? "ermm..*sniff* pocket? Pig food ? Shake hands? " Noooo "much pointing and happy voice ..Pick it up ... good lad , rinse & repeat ..." OHHHH- That! Well , BUT, IT'S ALL SANDY ... Don? YEP "Go On ..Pick it up ..get it .... Smoke - get out of the hole ....." *muffled* OK THEN ..HERE Much praise and happy putting-on-of sandal .. *sigh* life is never boring here as Banjo Paterson would say .. ..."The country life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know......"
  13. ..which is why she will seek it out when you hide it ;) Hide it for her to find, was what I meant , sorry - I wouldn't want to take away her favourite toy!!!
  14. What lucky little dog!! :) if she loves her piggy toy - perhaps hide that .... or teach her to put it in a bucket/box ... ? if she enjoys carrying things - would she perhaps enjoy picking up and giving you dropped sox, or keys , etc ?
  15. Thanks for the update- and it all is sounding good :)
