  1. Good news. Ok - now ... said with helping your boy in mind .... don't fuss ;) just treat him as a 45 kg rottie .. healthy and strong . Play ball , go for long walks ... enjoy new toys .... all that stuff - as very often , when WE worry , and "hover" over an unwell ..or supposedly unwell dog , unfortunately, that then makes THEM anxious .. wondering just what is different and wrong * sigh* Most of us have 'been there, done that' ... Hope he continues to improve, and you can sleep well :)
  2. if chews cover between 4 and 10 , and if he weighs over 4 , seems like he gets a whole dose ....
  3. beef liver treats ? Hmmmm Liver can be a laxative ....
  4. You don't want the dog to jump ? use a leash ;) by using a leash - dog can learn ..and YOU are in control , so he is safe from mistakes. . You might be interested in some of the writings here too :) best of luck with the new relationship-building ! :)
  5. Blink blink is correct - we cannot see or hear the dog ..and are not qualified to say what vet treatment he needs .... that is all up to you ....all we can do is give our opinions , and compare notes/help you feel as if you're not alone.
  6. oh, and most 24/7 clinics are not "dodgy" they can be the difference between life & death . Yes, accidents happen and vets can be negligent - that can happen in any clinic, anytime . Sorry you had a horrible experience .
  7. He would have had a full anaesthetic - not just something to numb his gums ;) recovery often takes 24 hrs , depending ....and eating/drinking is not a priority ... can you describe what he does when you say he is having these pain episodes? is it anytime/when he does certain things ...when? Does he move/jump/shake his head/step backwards/put his head down or similar when he yelps? Is he enjoying his walks /food/playtimes etc as normal ? Eating fine?
  8. A RAW diet is usually a balance of varied bones/meat - with differing amounts of dairy/egg/veg. Can you tell us more of what he eats, including treats ? It is important to balance things out in any homemade diets , which is why feeding a commercial food is often an easier way to make sure growing puppies get all they need to start life healthily ;)
  9. I once worked with THE most gorgeous lab girl, who was brain damaged due to lack of oxygen at birth . Sarah loved everyone and everything ... didn't really remember much, and had a weird head tilt - and eventually made someone a great pet .
  10. Did puppy have a difficult birth ? What other problems do you notice re: learning ? Does he respond to you /know a name/play with toys /find his mum or you indoors ? All I can suggest is that you make the toilet area large ... use fake grass instead of paper , maybe ? OR take him outside every 1/2 hr ..and play with him /feed a treat EVERY time he toilets , and ONLY then.... and , of couirse, you need to wait until he DOES toilet ;0 I guess you mean CRATE training ? Depending on his behaviour/amount of brain damage /your experience ..it is possibly not the ideal thing ...

  17. This is WORD picture ;) Got home from town tonight , not long before dark . no Smoke . OK, says I - i will start unloading groceries..and he will show up.No - that didn't happen . THEN I heard , 'bark , bark, barkbarkbark!" having visions of Smoke and goats on our 70 ft high cliff ..I hopped in a vehicle, and went for a drive/walk .... No more barking - so I thought I knew where he'd be . YES! he was lying strethed out in front of the outdoor heater with the guests we have staying in the old homestead ...He was very happy :) Apparently he HAD been very busy , herding several small goats which missed the truck last night . The men were most impressed - said he knew what he he was doing, and kept the goats in the one spot for ever so long - they even took some photos LOL.DOGS!!!!!
  18. hi - this dog has probably been in a kennel - and barking would be very ingrained after so long ....Perhaps ask the group for whom you are fostering?
  19. I saw the stills & decided to not watch those dogs slip around ...
  20. The vet will do whatever they think is neccessary for a diagnosis, I guess. Dr Google can often be scary , can many times be correct, and can way too many times cause panic for nothing ;) The vet may also listen to breath travelling thru - sounds can help localise problems .. Xrays may not show up the soft tissue ...and the vet may not suggest them at all , depending. make sure you note when the dog coughs - how exercise is tolerated - and how good /bad is the gum colour - this is all helpful stuff . Walk dog in a harness,if you don't already :) this takes away pressure on the trachea , and helps with the cough .best of luck at the vet visit :)
  21. contact westiemum on here (go to "members" and search ) - she has an oldie who had good and successful treatment .Best of luck with it all,.
  22. Littlegifts . LOL Don doesn't really know a lot :) Speaking of soft toys - I need to rake up a 'snowstorm' .....
