  1. I start feeding at 4 weeks ..and decreasing Mum's food . by 6 weeks , mum is on a normal (or less) amount of food, and has not much milk as pups aren't suckling much . here, the pups wean themselves pretty much - we never need to separate them. because pups are getting lots of food ..mum is on a 'diet'.. it evens out .
  2. Ok ..are you getting a large , strong, drooly, independent dog with your daughter in mind? Now you've said she is not fond of your current dog ..honestly , I agree that a puppy is probably not a good plan. A nip may well be VERY stressful for your girl. have you considered talking with a child psychologist ? having a professional along for the ride is pretty much always a good idea - hope that you can find the cause of this fear , and slowly work with one another to help your daughter - so that , one day , she may be relaxed and confident enough to choose and welcome a new puppy into her life :)
  3. Googling that breed- wow - they seem an awful lot of dog to handle/manage!
  4. Wow!! What dedication . Thank you so much for the update - I remember the original query , and am glad to read of all the progress . can we have a photo? :)
  5. Why not go small and cute and get a Frenchie :) maybe more a girl-scared-of-dogs size too?
  6. Demodectic mites are a normal part of dogs ( and human) skin dwellers. if the immune system is compromised , the little patches will grow and spread amazingly! They are deep within the hair follicles .. and this is one reason that internal treatments are used. All I can suggest is to improve his diet ..cut out any artificial colourings etc ..give him a daily probiotic .. I'm sure someone else will be along to help :)
  7. Ash showed great promise as a goat worker from a few weeks of age - but the decision was made to find him a home ... we did , dog savvy folks, who visited here , met Ash, played with him for an hour or so ..and said YES. however - the traits which we saw as ideal for a bush/working life did not suit his more genteel new home , so he came back . That muzzle IS a bit large ..he found it himself - I had it over a new plant - walked out the back door to see that ! :) he is an entertaining little beast .
  8. Aux contraire, photos are essential for learning to recognize what snakes are dangerous . . . especially when the juveniles look so different from the adults. If snakes gross you out so much, avoid the thread that was tongue in cheek, hence the wink ;) I live with King Browns and Eastern Browns sometimes literally on the doorstep ..and get scared regularly by the gorgeous yellow faced Whipsnakes who love the cooler spots in the fernery etc .and make the rustly/sliding sounds .. RBBs aren't as common unfortunately ..they are placid and beautiful. I know they're here ... and am grateful that this Summer we have not lost a dog or any poultry . It was interesting reading about the snakes & spiders , which is why I was in the thread when the photos popped up . ;)
  9. D'you think this is a bit large for Ash ? oh , and , I think introductions are in order meet Ash , VERY unfortunate accidental son of Smoke , grandson of Don , and one of the toughest , most self reliant pups I've met . Was rehomed , but eventually proved too much dog for a sedate , polite, GR girl and her family , so is back home where he can be a roughnut . and as a baby ....
  10. .....photos are really NOT neccesary ...really ;)
  11. just a little dribble ... sheesh .. cannot a person eagerly anticipate viewing something of beauty ? ;)
  12. oh :D :D How wonderful is this - how different are they each from the other ..and how LARGE is boypuppy !!
  13. :) I'm sure there were no hard feelings .
  14. agree with this !! poor boy is anxious already ..prodding and squirting him just reinforces that it is indeed a nasty spot to be ;)
  15. The thing is ..we will probably NEVER find the cause of a dog's reaction. their senses are so much more acute , and they are programmed to find different things distasteful/scary ...
  16. I don't think so. Though when the breeder took that pic she apologized for him being so dirty. He's had his eyes checked and all good but might be worth looking into a bit more :) yes. he's a perky little guy :)
  17. how exciting :) Do puppies like him always have so much tear staining ?
  18. That's a good story :) the 'snake savvy' bit is interesting . I have seen that behaviour when youngsters first spot a skink, or a large beetle ! the wariness, the sniffing, the quick movements .. I guess it is an instinctive protective set of movements - which may be lessened over many generations of breeding ?
  19. Sometimes it only takes one small thing . echoing foot steps a nasty scent one odd noise exhaust puff in the face
