  1. last night, I awoke at some stage - and I felt around for Miss Molly .. She was a tight little ball, like a rolled-up echidna! ;) ( she has a feather doona and sheepskin bed ) ..so she got covered over with a sheet ... Don has a bed in a corner ..with pillows etc - and he has heaps of coat! The cat lies either behind my knees , or on me somewhere ... *sigh* maybe we all should just pile up on my bed!!
  2. I started an account - but haven't used it for years ... there are so many other ways to show/display photos :)
  3. awww..the pics of thye root mass/dead hatchlings and eggs is heartbreaking . Little fins wending their way seaward tho ? Marvellous!! Thank you.
  4. do a search for online vet /pet supplies :) I have no idea what's in the west! The vaccine needs refrigeration during shipping , too. Mind you- there may be a pet store/vet who you could buy from ...
  5. PARVAC is a killed vaccine - it can be safely given to pregnant bitches . It can also be bought online and self administered in most states .
  6. Perhaps get a pr. of thinning scissors and use on the feathers? that way there would still be some length - but with individual hairs different lengths , mats may not form as readily? As it only happens on one leg - is the leg on his underside when he lies down? does he lick/chew at that leg because of mild arthritic pain, perhaps ?
  7. :) Playing swap is done here from the time pups start grabbing things - we do it with toys /food / everything, yes , so that if we need to , we can retrieve contraband /something dangerous. it IS something which needs to be learned , and done correctly . So, with this little pup - play with toys .. when he has a toy .. YOU have a treat . Tell him SWAP ? and as soon as he sees the treat and drops his toy -- give him the treat , pick up the toy .Admire the toy , tell the toy how wonderful it is - then get pup to sit ..and give it back to him -- maybe having a little play too . This only takes a minute or two . Repeat often ... :) It's fun , and really useful ! That way , pup learns trust ...
  8. My dogs with very thin- single layer hair have rugs/coats at night only here ... I figure if there are plenty of interactive toys , and a well-thought out sleeping spot, daytime will be OK > Winter Kennels/beds do need to be thought out carefully ;) preferably with an offset door - facing North to avoid the cold southerlies - and , if possible, should be somewhere that morning sun can fall on them - and heat up the space inside . NOT metal then filled with scrunchy stuff like blankets /newspaper/wool - even clean soft straw - which will hold warm air /body heat . I buy old doonas/blankets/cushions from the opshop 'dog bed bin' (they also cut wooly jumpers /dressing gowns into pieces)
  9. I agree with putting him somewhere he can eat in peace .
  10. Getting bitten is certainly painful ..getting bitten when the world watches your every move and decision ... just awful! We all have embarrassing bites , I'm sure ;) my most embarrassing one was working at the vets - holding/comforting a chi who was all upset ..when it reached up and grabbed my nose - HARD. yes, there was blood , and many laughs and much pain ... and a lesson learned ;)
  11. ..but don't you know breeders just , well, BREED - and are glad to offload those smelly pups ? Dogs don't think, or feel sad or lonely ... gee - what an example you're setting . ;) you are doing just perfectly , kirislin!!
  12. oh!! wow! hope he turns out OK .. and that the girls enjoy their peace .
  13. Yes because intensively raised chickens and kibble are so natural. You do mean to say that wild pet dogs don't hunt kibbles in the wild? SSShhhhhhh! Next there will be safari parties for canned kibbles. LOL
  14. :) he really is a sweet doofus- problem is that he is so used to sitting on chairs/people , that he gets upset when not everyone loves it ( like my old dad- who was sitting reading happily - until..... ) Miss Molly ? wouldn't go near anyone - she is one who prefers to watch from afar , unfortunately .
  15. the 'out' couldn't have come soon enough! that would have been one very firm and unhesitating chomp! I think - to get both legs so severely - there must have been more than one chomp. And don't they usually go for an arm? Who knows how it played out - it seems odd - and i guess we will never know what took place . ;) p'raps ms Stilwell dropped a treat ? Anyhow - it would have given everyone a nasty shock - and I daresay protocols will be different now .
  16. the 'out' couldn't have come soon enough! that would have been one very firm and unhesitating chomp!
  17. All I can say is that it would have been one hell of a fright - coupled with some very very intense pain!!
  18. Kieran ( 36 "high and 42 kg) slept on a human stretcher bed :)
  19. there is a lot of stuff on this page - today, only the police dog story interests me .Annoys me, angers me , and makes me wonder what some folks think (or don't ) oh dear Not sure who bit off more than they could chew here .... *shakes head* explanation - CLICK HERE excerpt : from Victoria's blog: CLICK HERE excerpt :
