  1. Zzzzzzzzzzapppp! Hmmm 'Love the smell of singed fur in the morning ....' ;)
  2. Glad you have destroyed their 'castle ' :) They apparently stole next door dog's bones ? LOL . Did you nail the blocks down, or tie them on ? They may have carried them to another spot if not ..but they will probably have eaten them ;) I gave up using blocks for that reason ..now use pellets in containers .... If you are washing anything ..floor, joists etc ..use Urine-off or similar , so it doesn't still have the rat's 'ownership' markings on there . let's hope they don't come back!!
  3. Epic!! Glad you and the hounds are home in one piece .... Hope also that all your new toys give you much pleasure now you aren't on the move :) ps:did you find the beer?:p
  4. the baits may be pet safe as in where they are situated ..but the chemical is not one of the ones I would consider ...Here is a diagram showing how many G g/kg is needed for a lethal dose . Using that diagram .. a 10 kg dog would need to eat 50 grams of Brodifacoum but kilograms of Difenacoum . it is always such a balancing act ... and one gets very creative as to where one puts bait ..so animals/little humans can't get to it - but where the mice will naturally find it .... It is always a challenge !! Thanks Perse - yes it is a balancing act. Luckily for me the main spots for these baits which are enclosed so 2- leggeds and 4 leggeds can't get to the bait paste - is in firmly closed cupboards in the kitchen. The only advantage that I could find is that the brodifacoum is very effective and kills the buggers more quickly than the other options - which is why the professionals use it. And I certainly had a real problem that if I didn't get control of was going to spread to the rest of the house. I feel sorry for the meeces - but the moment their constant overnight partying kept me awake their days were numbered! know the feeling! We have bait out continuously these days ..in teh hope that very few mice = low numbers/no snakes around buildings!
  5. Oh I've not seen those. I went to Bunnings and bought some Big Cheese bait yesterday. They had plug in thingies but there's no power in the shed so no use. Where do you get the battery ones? Apparently there was a party in the shed in the evening. I heard a noise quite early and Vienna was quite agitated several times. I'm a bit scared to look in there..... just google "electronic rat zapper" there are many types /brands ... The one we have certainly works on mice ... and apart from a slight smell of singed fur, and the disposal of dead things, is ok for the odd visitor ... for a houseful , bait would be a better choice , I think ...
  6. yes!! They go thru batteries fairly fast though ...
  7. Looks good - your dogs are so settled -looking :)

  9. Although attrition rates were still high , when I worked with the breeding side of Guide Dogs .. temperament was a BIG part of selecting breeding stock .
  10. I guess different species metabolise things differently ....
  11. I know that looks to be a wide safety margin, but am I the only one who thinks it's weird that it's not written per kg? Found this ..does that help ?
  12. (she thinks a bit like a dog ...) Anyhow, Mary met an , ermm, Mixed Breed Dog today ....He was VERY keen to make her acquaintance ..... *gulp*
  13. I have been using the BIG CHEESE brand of rodenticide very happily for some years now .... :)
  14. it's so hard these days , our knowledge of potential problems and the way things work has caused an overload of information ..
  15. LOL... Our pups would laugh at us if we suggested that timetable ;)
  16. Oh gosh! temperament is much to do with genetics IMO How odd that breeder doesn't think so .
  17. ohhhh.... So sorry Perry's Mum ...
  18. LINK excerpt : Updated about 2 hours ago PHOTO: A man has been hospitalised after being attacked by dogs . (Supplied: WA Agriculture Department)MAP: Koorda 6475A man working on a farm in Western Australia has been attacked by what is believed to be a pack of roaming wild dogs Police have confirmed a man spent a night in hospital after receiving bites to his arms, legs and torso after the dogs attacked him on a property north west of Koorda in the Wheatbelt. Police said the man was attacked last week by up to six dogs while he was fencing on the property and was taken to the nearby Wyalkatchem Hospital where he was required to stay overnight as a result of the severity of his injuries.
  19. Actually there's a bit in here (bolded) which I missed on first reading. Starkhre would you be willing to share your questionnaire to be adapted to a questionnaire for tenants with dogs/pets? Would that work do you think? I remember doing up a questionnaire to assess dogs folks wanted to donate as live-in therapy dogs . We worked hard on making non-obvious answers ..used words in certain ways so folks didn't see it as 'right answer/wrong answer' and answered truthfully - good and not so good ;) Multiple choice can be your friend here :) Here is a very rough example ;) Q is your dog a watch dog ? a No , thankfully. b Only loud barking c Yes! No one will get in :) d Unfortunately not . my very very favourite answer ever ... "is your dog housetrained?" :) "oh yes! he knows to never come near the house!" Oh dear have fun with that . W.M
  20. knowing the premises ..if it were mine , there would never be any dog there other than aged ones who slept most of the day , who couldn't climb stairs , and whose idea of exercise was to follow the sun patches around ;) .... any children would need references. :p he,he,he....
  21. Zackly :) being on sand here, wet sand beds/holes are the best coolers around :)
