I think a seizure dog , in some ways needs MORE Choosing/ training . They need to read very subtle signs , and then act in a few chosen ways ...they always need to be on alert , to act on their own instincts ... I think perhaps this type of dog would be less commonly seen ?

Really ? LOL! He would be almost perfect if , once he locks onto a moving target he has absolutely no other thought in his tiny brain ( yes, I know, my fault thru lack of training) .He is cuddly :D

it must be the day!! :D gotta laugh .... Having a bite to eat ..watching netflix .. "Don , hop in your bed please" This is what happened ...so lightly and fast I didn't actually see him jump! Tallie will NOT be impressed later on

Something I've not seen before LOL gave Pudd a treat ..as he sitting nicely and making eye contact .. he took it ever so gently , just in his front teeth . kept it there ..looked a bit lost in thought . he wandered away several metres ..looked around , and put the treat on the ground. ( I am busy panicking that he is ill... ) he then strolled a short way ..had a big pee ....strolled back to where he'd left his treat , and ate it happily . It looked so funny :D

Kodi: why is this forum quiet about it?
persephone replied to Odin-Genie's topic in General Dog Discussion
maybe because it is unimportant in the scheme of things ? The alleged violence is the subject of interest/outrage as I see it .. -

Hi, and welcome The bit I quoted ...... it is why posties get barked at a LOT ..the barking appears to work ..Postie leaves , all is right in the world I don't see it as an anxiety thing . What other symptoms does she show ? Have you been in touch with the breeder - they'd probably like to know ... Seems she is a bit tricky to live with - what are the problems in her everyday ?
-
Maybe stir a raw egg into the dry ? Or 2 sardines mushed up with it ? have you checked his teeth/mouth ? is he eating his treats OK ? Do you see him chewing ok ? if he is depositing good poo ..and enough - is there the possibility he is getting food elsewhere? Kids/neighbours/open bag of something he can reach ... ?

ESS puppy pulling on lead - help
persephone replied to Drummergirl's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Watching that reminded me of Hamlet ..with a Cocker mum ..he was mostly 'nose' ..and would quarter an area really well , with absolutely no training ... -
Hmmm ... there are pig hunters..and there are D!ckheads Some piggers have no compassion ...for the pigs, or their dogs. Around here , pups are just taken out on hunts with the adults .... let in on the less dangerous bits . Our Koolies were certainly never trained on piglets ..YUK. ..They just did it .. they knew where the safe spots were .They were never hurt, neither did they do it regularly - but if a pig popped up during sheepwork - it was caught & despatched . My Kieran was a pig dog prospect , dumped because he was scared... ( thankfully)

SARS, yes,it is painful, and stressful, but not much else can be done where firearms cannot be used. I believe it is also 'preferable' to the agonising death from 1080, or to being live trapped, then killed. Live trapping is terribly stressful for any wild animal, pigs especially. I won't go into detail. These animals are wonderful in their own right, they are not where they belong, though.

in mine ? yep ! looking a bit lost ;)

wow! great shots .

I THINK it's a very different scenario ... usually , if pig hunting is done correctly .. dogs grab the pig by the ears ..and hold it until the hunter dispatches it quickly and cleanly with a knife. THis form of pig hunting is widely carried out in areas where firearms are not permitted - yes, and also by hoons , sadly . A couple of our Koolies were very clinical and efficient at holding strongly , way back when we were much younger , and pigs were a problem .

Hmmm.. I THINK .. yes, it may well cost that much to obtain/train a dog for a specific purpose , but the organisation providing the dog covers that cost .. which they get from donations , etc. AFAIK recipients of a trained dog do not pay . It would be fantastic if that amount was raised , to donate as a lump sum to whichever organisation they choose !!

Fipronil (= Frontline) egg scandal
persephone replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
..because our pets are not part of our food intake ? Fipronil is not licensed for food destined for human consumption...therefore , if found , that food must be disposed of. It is an insecticide ..and human food shouldn't have insecticides therein ... ? -
