miccar96 He did it for about an 1/2 hour so he must have thought it was a great game. I got about 4-5 minutes on video. Vickie It would be an improvement on some of the videos put on there.

I have a friend who had this problem with her great dane. He would finish eating and the pee on his bowl and on the other dogs if he could. He is fed outside thier bedroom, so she waited with the kids high powered water pistol and shot him with it through the window as he went to pee. It stopped him.

My 5 month old BC pup has found a new game - pouncing on drops of water coming of a tree. The sound effects are starting to get tiring

I don't know if they do harm but if he is tender I would ring the emergency vet and ask them. -
Could Lure Coursing Cause Problems?
Janba replied to Ausvarg FL's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
With my dally the fun of lure coursing is the running not killing the plastic bag. She is very obssessed with the chase but when the bag stops she sniffs it and comes back to me. This dog is a great hunter of mice and lizards but it has not changed her attitude to kids or cats. -
Pressure Point Collar (aka Prong) Discussion Welcome
Janba replied to Erny's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have never had to use a prong collar on any of my dogs, but have been taught to fit one correctly and have had one demonstrated on my arm. I have to admit that it hurt a lot less than a check chain. The objection I have to them is people using them incorrectly. I saw a person 'hang' a dog by one years ago and that was cruel. I also believe the same is applicable to an incorrectly used check chain and head halter. -
A teaspoon of salt in half a litre of warm water is a good cleaner and antiseptic. I use yarrow extract put straight onto the wound as it stops bleeding and is antiseptic, then comfrey to aid healing.

My 4 1/2 month old pup is cutting molar and my adult bitch is insisting on cleaning his mouth. She is quite insistent that he lies there and she is gently licking at the spot it is coming through, even though this requires that she puts her nose in his mouth. He doesn't seem to mind, but gets sick of staying still after a while. The gum is a bit red and swollen, but not noticably infected. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour in their dogs?

I put in an order with Pricelesspets last Tues and it arrived on Thursday. I've always gotten my orders quickly.

I was talking to a holistic vet last week about titre testing and she said of the two labs doing it WA was the best. The report they give is quanitative so you get the actual level of antibodies in the blood. The other lab you just get wether they are present above or below a certain level.

Herding Instinct Test Saturday 12th May - Kcc Park
Janba replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There is no title for HIC anly a certficate. The reasoning behind it is to show that the dog has some working instinct and the handler has a little control (though I don't really think a controlled stop and recall on lead is the same as offlead with sheep) before progressing to the tests. -
When I moved and had to diet my old border (he had to lose about 7kg as my ex neighbours kept feeding him) I fed him the Hills weight reduction on my vets recommendation. I only fed half what was recommended on the packet and he still gained weight I put him onto one chicken wing for breakfast and 1/2 a cup of purina senoir and one chicken wing for dinner and the occasional vegetable. He lost weight gradually on this and seemed satisfied with the amount once he was used to it.

I spoke to the vet yesterday about whether my pup needs a 16 week vaccination. He has had a C4 at 8 weeks, the bordatella nasal spray at 10 (given before importing) and a C5 (vet had no C4) at 12 weeks. Her answer to my questions was The nasal spray is a once only vaccination and gives 12 months protection against the bacterial component of kennel cough. Not usually given to pups because of maternal antibvody interference but should have been fine given at 10 weeks. The two vaccinations would be enough for coverage for distemper, hepatitis and parvo. The reason for giving 2 vaccinations for these is that maternal antibodies may interfere with the first. Older dogs only need one shot. The only problem for him was the parainfluenza (viral kennel cough) component of the C4 & C5. They need 2 vaccinations for this and the maternal antiodies may have interfered with the 8 week vaccination. The earlier the first vaccination was given the more chance of maternal antobody interference, which is why my pups first vaccination was given late. So he only really needs a parainfluenza vaccination if the 8 week vaccination didn't take. My vet did not have the kennel cough vacination on its own and said the price would be similar to a C4 anyway. I have decided that another C4 would be overvaccination so am not giving a 16 week booster. EDA I didn't ask about whether 2 vaccinations are neccessary for the bordatella if given by injection

Malaseb As An Ear Cleanser ?
Janba replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
On my vets advice I use malaseb diluted 30ml in 100ml water to syringe my dallies ears out weekly. She suffers chronic yeast infections and if i do the weekly syringing her ears stay clear. edited spelling -
My parents had a dog that refused to go into a kennel. Sh slept on the backdoor step, which while covered was open to the elements and would get wet in driving rain. My father ( a self professed non animal person) decided that Miranda needed protection and literally built a kennel around her. He started with her bed on the base (no walls), and once she was sleeping there happily started to build the walls one layer of boards at a time. Once she had accepted the walls at a particular height he added a board. Took a bit of time but by the time he had the walls built to roof level Miranda was happily going in. She didn't even notice when the roof went on. He did leave a large door. This is the man who would also be seen scratching the cat behind the ears when he thought no one was looking

I use them sometimes as training treats and my dogs get 1 strap as a goodnight snack. They love them. They are high in sugar and salt (and protien 30%) and do have preservatives etc added, but my dogs probably get an average of 20 grams of schmacko a day at the most which would equate to about 1 gram of salt and 1 gram of sugar. While they are doggy junk food they are better than feeding things like sweet biscuits and about the same as bread.

What you are feeling is probably the bulbus glandis at the base of the penis not the testis. This is what helps lock a dogs penis into the bitch when they tie during mating.

I have PMed you details of some people who run a very good puppy preschool. They are border collie people.

I am going through exactly the same thing with my new BC pup and my older BC except that Moss showed aggression to the pup a few times. Because of this I am still careful about letting them together unsupervised. I have decided that what Moss doesn't like is the pup running under him or chewing on him. He has also been ignoring him if the pup can't get to him. After 2 weeks he is just starting to play with him and is starting to accept him. I have been feeding the older dog first, showing him a lot of affection and extra training sessions, which he loves.

I've always fed rw\aw and kibble together in a 50/50 mixture and never had a problem. I always thought the problems came from too much canned as it the same as 'predigested' and can lead to a lazy gut.

I have private herding lessons in a small group. There are a maximum of 6 of us and the session goes for 3 hours. We take turns in working our dogs. I find it really good and also learn by watching the other people in the group.

From what I have read lately every dalmatian is a potential stone former and most breeders recognise this. AussieDals yahoo list has a lot of informatian on stons in the files section under health issues. If you don't belong to Aussiedals I can email you the informatian. The Dalmatian Club of America also has informatian on their site http://www.thedca.org There is also a project in US called the dalmatian backcross project where 1 pointer was introduced to produce low uric acid dalmatians. It is now up to about 7 generatians from the original cross and efforts are being made to get them registered with the AKC. http://www.dalmatianheritage.com/about/links.htm

I feed a mixture of raw and low protien dry food twice a day. They get some kibble each meal with the raw or cooked food added. about 50/50 The raw food depends on what I have at the time - chicken mince (whole carcass), chicken necks & wings, some vegetables, eggs, yoghurt, sardines Cooked is basically rice or pasta, vegetables, left overs (they love my chicken vegie soup). If I a cooking things like pasta I do extra for dogs, same with vegies. They also get fish oil tablets and cod liver oil tablets (hairy sheepdog has a high oil requirement) which they just eat. They also get raw bones every so often and rawhide chews. I don't feed that many bones because of the red meat. With puppies I feed a puppy kibble and the rest of the meal is the same as an adult. I never feed canned food or supermarket processed rolls, but do feed barf patties now and then.
