  1. Neither of my BCs bark when someone comes to the door though the older barks at dog sbeing walked down the street. When someone walks up the driveway they go into the " Visitors - Oh Joy" mode. I have a friend staying here at the moment and late last night she decided to go for a walk and took Moss (2 years old) with her. When she got home she said that when she was walking in a dark spot beside the railway line where it goes under the M7 she suddenly spotted a man coming towards her and got a bit of a fright. She said Moss came in very close to her side and growled quietly at the man. When he made a derogatory comment which put her on edge Moss barked. This is a dog with no aggression in him but after what she said I think he would be there if I really needed him. Give your pup time to grow up and she will probably become a bit more of a watch dog.
  2. My boy used to get up to go in the night (back door wa always open). Clear urine is dilute. When it concentrates it goes yellower. I would get him checked out by the vet as they can do the initial urine test for all sorts of things with the strips they dip into a sample.
  3. Is he and inside dog and able to hang on all night? This may be totally wrong but it sounds a bit like diabetes insipidus or wtaer diabetes. This is where they have an inability to concentrate urine so pee a lot and subsequently drink heaps. Your vet can do initial tests by testing the urine to see how concentrated it is. If he can hang on all night it is unlikely to be this, but if your not sure don't let him run out of water as they dehydrate quickly. He also could be drinking out of stress or because he likes to. ETA I had a dog with diabetes insipidus and he drank unbelievable quantities of water.
  4. I use valueheart tablets (except on Moss) as it is half the price of the others. I do have to put in down their throats but mine are good at taking tablets.
  5. I have a 10m one and a 5m one. The 10m one I got from a saddlery - its a horse lunge line. The 5m one from my tracking club. You could try the bigger dog suppliers or ggogle for a tracking lead.
  6. Changes in sleep patterns is one of the symptons of CDS as is abnormal barking and howling. It often has nothing to do with stress but is part of the deteriotation of the brain.
  7. He's on Supercoat specialcare sensitive which you have to get from the pet food places not supermarkets . I know a lot of people don't like supercoat but this one works well for Moss. I originally tried it as my pet food supplier had a bag on special. The Hills science diet one was no where near as good. It works for him but may not for every dog. Since feeding it he has only needed antihistimes on the rare occasion and he no longer gets the infected skin pustules he used to get that required antibiotic treatment.
  8. I have one dog with bad allergies and the other two are fine except the odd thing like Wandering Jew. Moss has food intolerances, ivermectin allergy (not MDS), grass allergies etc. The allergies started after his 16 week C5 vaccination when his immune system started attcking his own skin. He gets washed in malaseb when he is itchy, has vet prescribed antihistimes (which I buy by the bottle of 100) which I give him if he gets too itchy and is fed a special diet of 1/2 of a kibble for sensitive dogs and 1/2 natural diet of foods he tolerates. Since putting him on the special kibble he has not needed the anithistimes any where near as often. You should add a choice for anti allergy food or special diet.
  9. The vet cannot come straight out and say put him down unless there is a serious reason for it. My vet when Boot was given his wings that he thought my timing of doing it was about right, but I had had to make the decision. He listened to me before hand and told me what was happening to his brain and how it was likely to progress, but didn't influene me either way.
  10. I put my old BC down almost 3 years ago because of senility. He was almost totally blind and deaf but physically very healthy. The problem was the senility and the state of confusion that he seemed to be in and the effect he was having on my other dog as he was getting very grumpy with her. The senility was slowly getting worse. It was a hard decision to make but I don't regret it. He went while he still relatively happy and he had had a good life. One of the things I will not do is keep a dog alive for me because I can't bear the thought of their loss or because of what people might say. My vet was also very supportive of my decision. I would take him to the vet and have another talk to him about what you can do as there are drugs and prescription diets for senility. Whatever decision you make he has had a good long life and deep down inside you will kow when it is time.
  11. Yep. I'm comforted that you were too, Lilli. Makes me feel less dumb. Can someone here explain ..... or perhaps guide us to the issue of DogsVic that Denis is actually referring to? From another forum it was in the November issue (depending on how early in the month you get DogsVic).
  12. We have no sheep at Erskine Park till the 8/3 (a week before our first trials). The Sporting Committee is takng over all Saturday training so no more BC training days which is where Colin instructs. I don't know if he will be instructing at any of the Sporting Committee days, but he is conducting training for the BC club once a month at his place till we get new sheep.
  13. Pat Smith who is near Picton also has sessions on her sheep. She's a shepherd breeder and has a lovlely dog to watch herd who has his PT
  14. Is it one of Suzanne Clothiers ? Maybe he just wants to say hi Link
  15. Could it be something the pups have been washed in or had applied to their skin like frontline?

  17. I went to some seminars he ran out here quite a few years ago. They were brilliant. He even spent an informal night at training at our club talking to us and demonstrating.
  18. You can always break the tablets into halves or quarters, open Chloes mouth and put them on her tongue right at the back of the mouth. Hold her mouth shut and rub her throat till she swallows.
  19. There is Hills District that trains Monday night at Castle Hill Showground, beginning at 7pm and Tues morning at 10 am. The Mon nights start again for new mamber and beginners 21/1 and Tues on 12/2
  20. I feed a mixture of raw and dry. I always think that they overstate the amount of dry you have to feed on the packets so work on about 3/4 of the recommnended amount. So if I am feeding 50% dry I use about 35-40% of the recommended amount of dry and make the rest up in raw. I adjust according to the condition of the dog.
  21. You don't want to make the area too wet, so if you wash it dry it properly before applying the curash. Triming the hair around it can help to keep dry it out and make it easier to apply the powder
  22. I've used curash on hotspots with a lot of success when they are small. I imagne listerine would sting like hell.
  23. The 60kg mark on my etacam syringe fills a normal syring to 4 ml
