  1. This is going back years to when I used to breed. The method then was to strap or tape a coin over the hernia to hold it in place and let the muscle rejoin. I don't know if this is still done but it worked for me on one occasion. edited spelling
  2. Acral lick dermaititis? It is a condition where dogs will constantly lick or chew at their legs often bought on by boredom, stress etc. One of the problems from memory is secondary bacterial and fungal infections from the constant moisture that make the licking worse. An elizabethan collar could help to prevent the licking and break the habit and something like curash can dry the area out. If it is this a behaviouralist could help. ETA I have notes on iot somewhere from courses I have done so will see if they are handy.
  3. I have sent you a PM. I am intrigued as to who it is.
  4. I just had a look at the website. It doesn't say who the people are who are running the course and even more worrying there seems to be no practical component to the courses. I would really not want to use a person who has learnt their animal behaviour out of a book with no practical experience on my dogs. Might to a bit of research.
  5. Congratulations Terrific result and hopefully another brag for the third pass soon.
  6. I have the same problems with my b/w BC boy if he gets too much red meat. I feed him a chicken mince that is the whole bird - bones and meat - and his skin is good other than when he has an allergy. I also give him a fish oil capsule 3 or 4 times a week.
  7. I thought I might add my brag for the weekend. Cole had his first herding trials at trial level this weekend (he got his PT last weekend). Didn't do to well in Started B but he isn't really ready but tried hard. In started A on Friday we got second place by 1/2 point and Reserve High in Trial and Mon he won Started A and got High in Trial. He worked really well on difficult stock with a few hairy moments, but he is only 14 months old. I am still on a high.
  8. I am really sorry to hear about Fergy Run free little man
  9. Maybe go back to basics and get her to balance to you while you walk around and through your sheep. You can reinforce the sides as she changes direction to balance (I hope that makes sense). I tend to work more to the dogs bad side at the moment to try to even things out. Does she know her sides to the point where she will go a direction on voice command only while even if it is to an off balance position or is she working to get to a position of balance? .
  10. I did it with a roast a couple of weeks go. I'm still here to tell the tale. I googled them at the time and it seems they are non toxic, but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it.
  11. Link to the rules on the ANKC site http://www.ankc.org.au/home/inner.asp?pageID=70&mainID=2
  12. I have a leather harness made for me by a local saddler (who also makes them for quite a few people in Sydney) that is now 15 years old and still in good condidtion. It was made to measure for my first tracking dog but fits all 3 I have now really well.
  13. My dally bitch gave birth to some toys and tried to raised them when she had a phantom If she is like my girl the nesting should stop at about 9 weeks after the fertile period in her season about the time she would give birth if she was pregnant. I read somewhere that it is a remnant of a survival mechanism in wolves. The bitches in a pack come into season at about the same time but only the alphs bitch conceives. If something happens to her then the bitches having phantoms can take over the rearing of cubs. I don't know how true this is.
  14. He may have bitten his tongue Edited cause I can't spell
  15. Supercoat does make a dry for sensative dogs that is chicken and rice and has no beef or gluten. One of my BC gets it an I find it better than the other low allergy dry I have tried. I give as less than half the daily ratio, the rest is barf. As peibe said have you thought about barf or a raw diet.
  16. From memory one of the judges so probably Stephanie Gibson. One day was for shepherds and the other for all breeds I think.
  17. The shepherd people at Pats place. Its on Ozherders and Herding Australia.
  18. I am entering the trial but not doing the clinics.
  19. I would be a bit careful with this that you don't teach him to be more protective of his food as it may get taken and not given back especially with a small child in the house. I do something similar with all my dogs, but the sit has to come before the food is given. When I take the bowl I put some better food in it, even if it is only a taste and then give it back. They learn that you taking away food is not necessarliy bad. As danes are prone to bloat wouldn't you be better feeding him off the ground at chest height ?
  20. Or Moss who looks at me and falls off the dog walk
  21. Watched it on the BC boards and thought I'd also cross post it, but you beat me It gives a totally new perpsective, especially to the weaving.
  22. Fingers crossed that it is just a tummy bug.
  23. Moss's comes in 10 kg bags (that is the smallest bag I can get of it) and I get smaller bags for the other two mainly because of storage and I only feed dry as half the diet. Moss's seems to stay fresh but the bag has a resealable zipper.
  24. I can't help you as I also use 3 different kibble - juvenile deliquent kibble, fat dog kibble and sensitive dog kibble. Luckily mine seem to run out at different times as they all get different amounts.
  25. I am no expert on doggy bad breath, but an unerupted tooth could cause a problem as could bit of food caught between her teeh and decaying.
