  1. Has anyone got any results from the Herding Nationals Today? Thanks
  2. I think someone ought to start up a herders anonymous for us serious addicts. You know it is bad when your social and working life isn't allowed to interfere with sheep access time.
  3. ACP doesn't stop things like anxiety or aggression, it just makes it harder for the dog to react to them, but they still fell the same fear or anxiety they would without the ACP.
  4. I put a coat on my dally at night in winter oterwise she gets onto the bed and shivers violently against you till you wake up. She is also a master at sitting in front of the heater and shivering till you turn it on I never put coats on the borders.
  5. When the sheep are broken in to dogs. there is too much risk of injury to the sheep and to beginner dogs if the sheep haven't been accustomed to being worked by dogs and to the different breeds. It will be announced on the various yahoo herding lists and probably on here when training re opens.
  6. Don't hormones secreted by the pituitary gland tell the dog when to come into season. The still have a piturity gland when desexed. ETA http://www.gsdcqc.com/Articles/Female_Reproduction.pdf
  7. This is copied fromthe ANKC rules I don't know why it is - maybe because if the judge doesn't speak the lnguage they why know if you command is one word as per rthe rules or more. If you PM you emial address I will send you a PDF document of our obedience rules if you like.
  8. Have you made him a snug warm bed in his crate. When I first bring young pups home I put a basket or box in the crate that is the right size for the pup and make the bed in that. I also put in a large soft toy or a cushion for them to snuggle up to. Covering the crat - but not the front - can also help as it makes it seem secure and den like. Good luck with your pup - lab pups are such cuties
  9. 15 minutes maximum. If my dogs don't eat their food within about 15 minutes I remove it as they either don't want it or are sick. ETA I would probably reoffer dry food a few times so long as it hadn't got wet or had other food mixed with it.
  10. I don't usually keep liver in the house in case the dally gets hold of it - they can't metabolise prines and liver is very high in purines
  11. He will lick ice. At least the chicken stock will have some nutrients in it and I'll blend some chicken and veg with it tonight to see if he'll eat that.
  12. Thanks everyone He has drunk some of the chicken stock and seems a bit perkier - the pain killers and antibiotic injection may be starting to work.
  13. If he hasn't drunk properly by tonight or he dehydrates he will have to go on a drip. The vet has no idea what the matter is. The symptons are slightly elevated temp., not intestinal or stomach tenderness, colour is still good, heart sounds fine just really depressed and lethargic. He won't touch yoghurt at the moment which he normally loves so milk probably wouldn't work. Syring is a good idea if all else fails.
  14. I'll try that. He is turning his nose up at chicken the roast chicken I bought yesterday to try to get some food into him so I may as well boil it up and make onionless stock.
  15. My Cole is sick at the moment - very depressed and not eating. He has been to the vet and blood work etc is being done. My problem is that today he is reluctant to drink. He is not dehydrated yet but would like some suggestions to make the water more attractive to him. Thanks
  16. I have a small brag for my special boy Cole. Yesterday and today we competed in a shortcourse sheepdog trial. Both days we managed the bridge with relative easily and today for the first time in a competition we managed to pen in a free standing pen . Next month we are going to attempt our first 3 sheep trial
  17. I have a dog that almost died of anaphylactic shock after a heartworm injection. Never again will any of my dogs have it.
  18. Is Everest and Orla going and also the pup that is in Vic ? I might have to go down for the weekend for a sticky beak - just to see who is there
  19. Jinnie will definitely do the family proud and should get her last passes for started A and B titles , though Poppy/Cath may give her a run for her money.
  20. Janba didn't put her entries in I was tossing up wether it was worth going just for started B as he isn't ready for intermediate A just yet so missed the closing date.
  21. my older BC boy has a bad flea allergy. I use advantage (or adnavtix in tick season) and make sure all bedding etc is washed regularly. I also use caapstar if he picks up fleas when he is out. If he does get a flea bite and breaks out he has iramine(sp) antihistimines. I find the best treatment is prevention. I try to keep the house, yard flea and all the dogs free - which is working.
  22. I have quite a few of those taken with a sony cybershot as well It seems to happen when you use the flash or auto flash with some dogs eyes. It always happens with the dog below whose eyes glow red in reflected light but not with my other two whose eyes glow blue/green. Have you got the camera set up so that you get the red marker light shining on the subject for the flash? You need to make sure that this is hitting slightly to one side not onto the dogs face and I find this helps.
  23. Cole got his third pass for his HSAs title today and another High in Trial.
  24. Who feeds their dog more than 10% of their diet as broccoli? A lot of foods are toxic or cause problems in high quantities but are safe if smaller amounts are eaten.
