  1. The genetic coat pattern in a catahoula is merle not ticking as in a cattle dog. This dog coat pattern is ticking and a could be cattle dog or even BC cross as they can be so heavily ticked the look like cattle dog crosses. I do wish people would apply a little genetics to breed identification a you often see a dog identified as something it genetically can't be. ETA you can also get this coat patterning in dalmatian crosses.
  2. So i'm guessing no one from Sydney is going or no one has heard of Ian Dunbar before or you've just got nothing good to say about him ??? I went to him years ago when Hills District Kennel Club bought him out. I learnt a lot.
  3. Wasn't he a surrender? I thought his most recent owners were known but, to date, his breeder hasn't been found. That's what I remember reading before the original post was edited.
  4. I'm not a fan of the term either. I own both an ISDS BC and a show BC and both are great dogs for different reasons.
  5. A barbie collie is a term that is used to describe the way the classically marked show BCs all look the same. It is mainly used in the US on forums like the BC Boards. ETA the show standard for BCs has no reference to marking other than the base colour must predominate so the classic markings are fashion not breed .
  6. I use old doonas in winter and sheets in summer as crate covers. I do leave the plastic trays in as they catch dust but do use thick foamed filled crate mats.
  7. I agree. I know a bitch from a bloodline with very low score, who competes at obedience at a high level with no signs, who has hip scores far greater than breed average. ETA the scores were not from the way she was bought up just genetic lottery.
  8. This is the organisation that had wool heavy sheep run to exhaustion by people with for their TV show trying to pen them for shearing, then a working dog do the job with minimum fuss.
  9. I just got my email from Dogs NSW - I'm now a licensed Judge for tests and all levels A & B courses
  10. I have used the complete mix with raw meat and the dogs do love it. I use the health booster and my dogs general health and coat condition etc has improved on it.
  11. You should reverse those figures. From the ANKCs website they estimate that ANKC breeders only breed 20% of the pups born in Aus. Working dog breeders, non ANKC breeds like mini foxies etc would only make up a small percentage of the remaining 80% of pups.
  12. Congratulations Piper Dova I hope Izzi is Ok. We had the theory exam for the Test levels of our herding judges training tonight and I scored 100%. Just the practical exam forn tests then onto theory and practical for A & B course judges licence.
  13. It will shrink back and in a few months you won't notice it. All the male dogs I have had done have had the testis removed and the scrotum left intact.
  14. And there is nothing wrong with being lucky enough to make money from s litter when every thing goes right.
  15. RIP Bailey. My heart goes out to you. It is heartbreaking that you had to go through this and that Bailey also was subjected to this preventable disease. The fact that dogs are still affected by preventable genetic diseases because people don't DNA test is morally so wrong. Stay strong and one day I hope a tested BC puppy will grace your life - they are the best dogs.
  16. She looks like one of the Flatout Aussies from NSW. They are working Aussies but are ANKC registered.
  17. You would also have to prove it was intentional cross breeding not an accidental litter
  18. The ANKC doesn't hold events, clubs do. Dogs NSW representative committees hold things like State Titles and a few committtees like DWD and Earthdog old a few normal trials. Has anyone asked Dogs NSW to include flyball in one of its committees?
  19. The rules also have to comply with ANKC regulations. I hope you are successful and put your money where your mouth and do the hard work to get flyball up and running under the ANKC.
  20. Her point still stands. The ANKC should be actively chasing new sports and being the primary properter of them. Not forcing new sports to jump through umpteen hoops to get recognised. Why are they jumping through hoops? Each member state has to agree on the rules and that takes time. I would much rather the rules I compete under are decided by people involved in the sport rather than an individual who has no interest in it. ETA A lot goes on during the year at state levels to do with the ANKC committees that unless you are on a committee you don't usually hear about.
  21. I think from reading everything that this would be the best course of action. I agree with HW that since AFA has been prominent, people have not seen the reason to get things up and running properly within the ANKC framework. I think my brain is just wired differently. I genuinely don't understand why an organisation with the mission statement that it currently has isn't actively trying to get all dog sports affiliated with them, and offering members the opportunity to try new sports. i.e. instead of Members having to push for DWD, why the ANKC/member bodies didnt come to its members and say 'there is a cool new sport that we could trial- do you want to have a go'. Or why the ANKC doesn't say to ADAA members that if they are also ANKC members that their titles will be recognised because for all intents and purposes its a dogs sport, dogs have earnt those titles so its our job to record that because we are first and foremost a registry, second to that a spokesperson and promotor of all things responsibly canine...... Weight pulling, Dock Dogs, Sledding are all examples of sports that should be being nurtured along, not striving against an organisation who is meant to represent them. I don't expect everything to be handed out on a sliver platter but I think they should be being encouraged as much as possible. Like i said- strange brain wiring on my part. Sledding/weight pull are in the process of finalising rules etc.
  22. Or talk to the sledding people who are in the process of getting the rules approved and judges training set up.
  23. StarLapyz I find you understanding of how the ANKC and its member bodies work woefully lacking. As I asked before does Dogs NSW have a representatinve on the ANKC national flyball committee? Who represents flyball on Dogs NSW committees - the sporting committee doesn't though it covers herding, earthdog and sledding. Has the ANKC a set of rules of its own for flyball or does it use AFAs? Has it an set of rules for eligability for judges and a judges training program in place for flyball judges? You do need to work to get flyball recognised as a sport in its own right in the same way that sledding is being done and rally-o was done.
