Uk Kennel Club Introduces Mate Select Programme
Janba replied to lappiemum's topic in Breeders Community
I read this as a program that lets you try a proposed mating not one that will tell you which dogs. The results could come out as something like this proposed brother/sister mating I just put into the Anadune database. Th results are only as good as the data that is put in as in this case the bitches CEA results haven't been entered so it works it on the probablity of 50% she's a CEA carrier when in fact she's clear. Cleaning him out was what I thought and maybe a chance to store some semen depending on the quality. The bitch will be day 9 or 10 next tues so may be right. Will have to wait for tests and the opionion of her old male to find out. At least work the next couple of weeks can be flexable.

I have a mating for my dog next week (found out tonight the bitch is in season) and would need to do a stud agreement. I wonder if anyone had one I could modify to the conditions we have agreed on (basically that service fee isn't due to be paid till a live litter is born and stud fee). This is his first mating so I am not expecting payment till a live litter is born so in these circumstances would people with hold the service certificate till the pups came or give it at the time of the matings (we have agreed on 2)? Also I am tempted to have his semen checked this week to make sure it is viable as the bitch owner is over 2 hours drive away. Would having this done on Fri make a difference to a mating on Tues? I tend to think not but would like other people opinions. Thanks in advance ETA This is a good mating for my boy in so I want to do thing right.

Border collies can definitely have them and they're usually removed soon after birth. On of my current BCs had them when he was born and his sister had a litter last year where some of the pups had them. If left on they can get caught and tear easily because they are so floppy which is why they are removed from most active breeds.

Herding training should begin again in March with new sheep arriving some time in Feb all going well. Darcy did hand in his reignation at the end of last year and has retired as stock carer but I imagine will still be instructing on Sundays for the ASDC. ETA This yahoo group is an information only group about training dates, trials etc at EP. Notifications will be sent out to members about the dates that traiing starts again. http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/herdingEP/

Or a sheep or 3

I'd have a go especially at CCD so long as their stays are stable. What have you got to loose other than the entry fee? Why would entering a dog who isn't quite ready wreck someone elses chance of a pass unless the dogs has unstable stays? Stays are taught in other disciplines other than obedience.

The problem with statistics like this is that they don't take into account the number of each breed/cross. The dog at thep top of the list are some of the most popular. If you divide the number of attacks by the number of dogs of each breed that are registered it would give a totally different list. This is not saying that pit bulls would then be high on the list - I have no idea were they would be. The statistics also only take into account the repoerted "attacks". If all cases of dogs rushing, harassing etc other dogs/people I am sure that a lot of the smaller breeds/crosses would definitely be high on the list.

I have been to a Greg Prince school and it was terrific. I would really like now to go to a more advanced clinic run by him to iron out a few problems I now have with trialling. -
We did our first advanced A course at todays trial. He did a beautiful run to the cross drive, got them off the fence at 4 nicley and to the centre line gates the we lost them because of handler error and they ended up back at 4. He couldn't get them off the fence again so I withdrew and helped him. I felt that he handled the advanced well and we hadn't lost that many points when I retired but even if I'd kept going we would have timed out as we only had a minute left. On a better note he got a pass in intermediate B with 89 and did a good run in the short course.

;) I am glad Riff was OK and can imagine yout poor Dads reactions when Riff came back to life. Thankfully I don't have verandahs for them to dive off. Bl***y possums

I bath mine before surgery as I usually only wash the 3 or 4 times a year or if they roll in something bad. I don't normally have fleas (have a dog who is allergic to them) so they are traeted twice monthly with a spot on treatment. I would be ashamed to take a flea ridden dog to a gromer.
-
They're on the next available flight but a warning said dalmatian grabs low flying doves out of mid air and bugs are a re dinner aperitif. I am waiting till dark then bringing the possum hunters in, feeding them and locking them in till supervised pee time before bed . I hate that possum.

Was he talking about 20% of the respondants with farm dogs and sheep dog trial dogs or 20% of all respondants. The survey covers all aspects of working including security, assistance. armed forces dogs, sniffer and detection dogs, hunting dogs, dogs used in sports like schutzhund and sheep dog trialling etc. ETA the first section of the survey Section 1. Sometimes I wish they would just catch it. It teases them on purpose as it knows they can't get at the fence - I have a ping string around the bottom. The 3rd dog stays in and whenever I go crook at the other 2 jumps up on me and says "I'm a good boy - I don't hunt possums"
-
Free to good home 1 BC and 1 dally - must be possumless. Said dogs drive their owner mad nightly by trying to catch the possum that lives in the neighbours roof each night for an after dinner snack. Said possum sits there and looks at them from the roof top causing much barking and whining and then proceeds to walk along the top of the fence to the large tree in the backyard. When the dogs are bought inside they sit at the back door and whine to get let out to continue hunting possums. I hate that possum which is currently making loud hissing type noises at what I assume is another possum coming into its "territory" and said dogs are getting frantic.

If the dog has 20% hearing you could find out in which frequencies it can hear in and use a whistle of that frequency.I have had a deaf dally and now have a unilateral deaf dally (deaf in one ear) and they have made terrific pets and both competed obedience. As a pet with the right training a deaf dog is fine. I also have a BCs that I work) on stock. I can see problems in working stock, particularly cattle where a dog needs to be able to do things like duck under a kick, if the dog is watching you for hand signals rather than its stock. It is also very hard to give hand signals to a dog who is working a couple of hundred metres from you.

2010 Training/title/goals Wish List
Janba replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Last years hopes I still haven't entered any tracking trials but have started training Moss in obedience and agility again and should be ready to trial after Xmas and he is working very well . Cole has his first starts in advanced level this weekend (which will make him the first ANKC MR/LR dog in NSW to compete at advanced level herding) and he does have 1 duck title. Only 5 more to go. A VHCh may not be too much to hope for this year if he keeps working like he is. ETA I just have to learn how to shed. -

Link to last years thread for those of us that forgot what are aims were -
I have seen quite a few break novice stays. I can remember one small fluffy dog breaking and mounting my deaf dally bitch in the drop stays in under the old rules where there was no CCD. She didn't break but I still wish I had been able to take a photo as her expression was priceless.
-
I have never had a dog break from position in novice competition though I have had one who sank slowly in the sit stays (b*** BCs). By Novice a dog should have stable stays.
-
I think it really depends on the breed of dog and what there natural tail carriage is. My dalmatian carries hers above but arched out behind and usually wagging which is her normal tail carriage. The border collies carry them low unless really excited then the black and white one arches his over his spine and the tri raises it but not as high.

Does Anyone Separate Their Dogs When They Go Out?
Janba replied to geo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Mine are not seperated as older pups or adults but I do seperate young pups from the older dogs when I'm not there to supervise.
