Hello Nick4t7:) Could you tell us more on what the politics and infighting were to make the last stock manager resign? I am also inetersted to know what politics and infighting? To my knowledge the last sheep manager resigned when the after board elected someone else in as chair of the Sporting Committee. Edited to make clearer

Poll: Have You Ever Used The Report Button
Janba replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have used it once or twice for offensive or abusive posts and did use it heaps when DOL went through the periuod of having pornograhic spam a few years ago. -
What breeds would these be - anything over 10 kg, a bull breed? I have 3 dogs here who I am sure would all be physically ripping my arms off if they really wanted too and they are not breeds you would probably include in your list. Your dogs are capable of inflicting serious damage to you if they so desired - give them a leg of lamb and see what happens. How do you control education of breeds? Pure bred registered ANKC dogs are the minority in this country - about 20% of all dogs (someone correct me if I'm wrong). How do you regulate all the BYBers, puppy farmers etc?

A trigger event is something that caused the dog to attack. Without being there to see what happened no one can say why this may have triggered the attack. Was there undue force used in moving him from the room, did he have something he prized like a bone or any number of other scenarios.
-
The fact that the victim couldn't identify a trigger doesn't mean there wasn't one or warning signs before the attack. The warning sign can happen in seconds and if you don't know how to recognise them (which most dog owners don't) they can escalate. Triggers can be things you don't even think might be a problem - something as simple as wearing a hat. It is unlikely that we will ever know what caused this attack or why the dog reacted with the level of aggression it did.

It may not have ended in tears. Most of the coolies I have met have been terrific dogs and not as highy drive as BCs and kelpies. Its the work ethic in the working breeds and the gun dogs that makes them what they are. I hbave been lucky in that I haven't had a near miss or a collision unless you count the b order collie I bought to herd with who is afraid of sheep

Fetching is when the dog is bringing the sheep to you regardless of wether you are stationary or moving. It goes you, sheep dog. Driving is when the dog is taking the sheep away from you and is you dog sheep. In Jules picture Poppy is fetching as the sheep are between her and the dog. In this picture the dog is driving away from me - I am standing at the pen you can see in the right In this one I am standing at the start peg C which in this arena is about 20m to the dogs left

Sa Herding Training, Tests And Trials
Janba replied to piper's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Saturday is a training day on sheep. Sunday 2 x A course duck trials. Monday 2 x A course sheep trials. We have limited stock so entries limited to 30 each day and a ballot could come into effect. Last year we would get around 35 runs a day. At least you have stock -

Uk Judge Banned For 12 Months For Misconduct
Janba replied to ellz's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wasn't being patronising just commenting that you seem to be taking things personally. Your first post in this thread was # 10 and you came on the defensive when there had only been one post that may have questioned things. No one is denying that the dog is a great one or deserved his win. -

Does that make him an unworthy winner? .......He wasn't retired at all, had just won a BIS a couple of weeks ago I think becks was talking about the 2008? BIS winner. You really are taking this too much to heart. -
My holidays consist of going to trials, clinics etc so at least one of my dogs goes. If 2 are left they board at a friends place with each other for company.

There are problems trying to find a new sheep manager. If anyone knows someone with the relevant experience or qualifications who may take the job PM me and I will forward a copy of the contract. Everything possible at this stage is being done to try to find a suitable person but it has proved very difficult.

In whatever corner they can squeeze into.

Herding Instinct Test Kcc Park 27th & 28th March
Janba replied to Starkehre's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Rotties have definitely been approved and I believe there is 1 with HT in WA. The rules themselves have not been reprinted so they may not appear there but instruction was given to each state body that the proposal to add them to the list of approved herding breeds was successful. We have one in NSW that has its PT I think ot maybe its HT and trains at PT? Either way its a lovely working dog, though her owner does trial kelpies as well so has lots of experience. -
An old metal bath tub with the drain cemented shut. He could splash and play in it but still have water

Uk Owners May Be Forced To Take Out Public Liability Insurance
Janba replied to horus's topic in In The News
I have public liability insurance and my dogs are included on it. What happens if my dogs get out and get hit, writing off a top of the line mercedes? -
Symtons of CL usually appear when the dog is just over 12 months and affected dogs are put down by about 3 at the latest. Roy is a bit old for CL to start showing. It is more likely some other problem. I would also take tha dog to the vet for a thorough check up and see a behaviouralist if the vet finds nothing.
-
You would also need to make sure it is an ANKC registered breeder not a puppy farmer or BYBer first before complaining to Dogs Vic or any other state CC as they have noi jurisdiction over non members. Some people put in adds that they are registered breeders but it is council or similar registration not ANKC registration.

I went through something very similar with Mishka a few weeks ago. If you belong to the aussiedals yahoo group I have described it there. She was like a dog coming out of anaesthetic and had a complete personality change - she acted like a she had never met me before and it was like having a wild unsociallised dog who was doped out of their mind. I was terrified the first night I was going to loose her. She also didn't eat but it was like she had forgatten how - just wondered around the backyard with a piece of meat in her mouth. She did recover to normal - took a week or so and she went from 23.95kg to 22.22 in about 3 days. The general concensus of my vet and the neurologist vet at the specailist centre was some sort of neuro toxin. Her liver tests were abnormal so they didn't know if it was something she had eaten or her liver was unable to filter the normal toxins out of her bllod so they built up to a toxic level. Her follow up liver tests on Tues were completely normal so we are non the wiser as to what happened. It still maybe a liver or something external. Has your vet suggested testing his liver? I hope he recovers for you.
