Congratulation on you first started pass Jules

Lovely post Jed. I still remember every pup I bred like it was yesterday, even though the last has long since gone from old age. There is something very special about those first 8-10 weeks of life and seeing the pups developing towards of the dogs they should become. They are still alive in my mind, destroying the newspaper I am trying to read on the lawn, hanging of my shoe laces and sleeping in a puppy pile with the older dogs.

I wonder if it was a case of "clip the lead on and miss?"

Is the dog being tied up and left at home or just when out or needs to be restrained for a while. I may be assuming to much but I imagine that a rescue dog would not be rehomed to a place where they would be tied up for most of the day.
-
The swivelling stakes are good but it is easy for a dog to pull them out of the ground. Dogs need to be taught to be tied up. I teach them form pups by tying them with me in sight for a minute and gradually extending the time of being tied and me going out of sight. When I go back to them lots of praise. I will also sometimes have an older dog tied next to them. Pockets having a dog that ties up quietly and calmly is I believe one of the neccessary things your dog should be taught. You can't always have a crate and there are always times when you want a dog secured.

The farmer needs fencing that keeps his stock not expensive dog fencing to keep out the dogs of people to irresponsible to keep them confined behind adequate fencing.

Amiercan Staffordshire Terrier? : American Pit Bull Terrier?
Janba replied to Jed's topic in General Dog Discussion
It is possible to show genetic distance between populations of dogs. A study has been done recently on noise phobia in BCs and one of the side findings was that the Australian show lines (probably the only closed BC KC registry in the world) are distant from the ISDS and ABCA. Not enough show lines dogs were tested or Australian working BCs to find if the Australisan working dogs fitted into the gap. This is different to the DNA breed identification as it doesn't try to identify breed but how isolated from each other genetically 2 populations of dogs are. http://www.k9behavioralgenetics.com/NoisePhobia.php -
A Surprise In My Brother's Border Collie Litter! - Updated

Who knows sometimes what those old dogs are too. You are right re ISDS/ABCA lines. Red = Chocolate in many cases. However there is enough red behind/within the Borderfame/Minimbah stuff in that pedigree for it to carry through to this pup from the dam's side. Will be interesting to see what is hiding behind the sire's side. I saw thav afterwards . It will be interesting to see the sires lines. The other possibility is a very pale sable or with the lines behind the bitch white factoring. -

Remember too that in the US chocolate is called red as well particularly if it from the ABCA lines. Cute pups It will be interesting to see his colour as he grows. ETA Highlands Hole in One is pure ISDS lines so no Australin blood. The ee red is almost unknown in the ISDS dogs (one could probably say unknown) so the red listed is porbably chocolate Highlands.pdf -
A drop of one of the spot on flea controls put on the end of the ear seems to keep them away.

I And My Dog Can't Sleep At Night :-((((
Janba replied to GSDowner's topic in General Dog Discussion
Possums are very territorial and if released close by they just come back. I have a resident deliquent possum who has an ongoing battle with the neighbouring deliquent possum and its worse than cats fights. There is nothing I can do it other than hope he meets a sticky end (but preferably not in my dogs jaws). -
From the OP it was from a dog belonging to the man not a boarder.

We don't know that the dog hasn't been treated for his injuries or what they are or for that fact how old he is or whether he is red or blue or even if the dogs are working dogs, ANKC registered or just mutts. If he is living with a bitch in season who is standing he may also be very frustrated which wouldn't help him. If I couldn't use my dog on a bitch I would use the "dog down the road" as he is a good ANKC main registered dog and the right bloodlines. If he is just BYBing then I am as disapproving as you. I am not unconcerned about the dog but we don't know the facts. Some of the working dog people I know could be described as "dodgy old men" to someone who didn't know them and their knowledge of dogs, bloodlines, breeding and training is awesome. People dismiss the fact that good working dog breeders are as legitimate as ANKC breeders. I first became a member of the NSWKC, as it was then, in 1974, currently sit on a DogsNSW commitee, have bred ANKC dogs in the past with success but now have a foot in both camps of ANKC and working dogs.

Wouldn't you hope a person breeding "any dog" would take the sire to the vet if it was hit by a car? And I'm pretty sure that when they collect semen... It isn't a bungled handjob.... into a condom.. Wouldn't a ethical breeder take their dog to a professional person or place who does that... kind of thing.... I don't know... but it seems pretty wrong to me But your right... I don't know... I don't know either. And we don't know if the dog has been to the vet or what his injuries are. Today is a public holiday as is tomorrow so it is unliKIely vets will be open. A lot of breeders do do AI with fresh semen themselves without a vet and a condom is meant for sperm collection (just hope he stretched it first ) and may be possible if you don't have one of the sheaths designed for the job. I do know when my dog has been collected it needed more than one person - 3 in fact. One doing the "job", one holding the bitch and one holding the dog to prevent him mounting her. You could get away with less if you weren't collecting for use on another bitch and the dog wasn't super eager to get to the bitch. I am just saying that we don't know the full facts of this case so really can't judge till we do.

Its a scam. Importing from the UK costs $1000s in air freight etc not $500 plus they have to go through quarantine for a month which will cost well over another $1000. It cost me almost $500 to bring my pup in from NZ 3 years ago. ETA http://www.daff.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_f...ion-package.pdf AQIS requirements http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs/accom/govt-stations Quarantine costs

It could also be a dog they rescued from the pound already pregnant or an accidental mating that they didn't know about till too late to abort. They obviously aren't cashing in on the DD fad but selling at a price that probably won't cover the cost of rearing them, vaccination etc.
