  1. In labs litters cant be registered unless scores have been done And it doesn't matter how bad those scores are so long as they have been done.
  2. Are you in Australia Kazzie?
  3. I think the bit I bolded is what raised warning signals for people. The bands are $7, postage included. To say they are too expensive made me wonder and I obviously wasn't the only one. Well personally, I would pay thousands and more if needed on my dogs, but if I could do the Exact same thing for $10? I would certainly rather that option! So possibly the OP means she would rather not pay $7 per band when she could buy something similar for 10c. Then again I could be wrong. When I lookled at the site I thought they were $7 each. You don't see they are for a set till you click on the link. The ones I looked at were $7 for 14 bands, 2 each of 7 different colours, not $7 each, maybe there are more expensive ones there as well? Off for another look When I lookled at the site I thought they were $7 each. You don't see they are for a set till you click on the link.
  4. A lot of people use different coloured ribbon or wool.
  5. I feed a mixture of raw and kibble because when I go away with the dogs it is easier to feed them kibble and I want them to be used to kibble and not get reactions from a change of diet. Mine are fed once a day with a cup of kibble and the rest raw (adult dalmatian and border collies). So long as you fed a good quality kibble it should be OK. I know nothing about a mini schnauzers dietary requirements but some mini people will probably be on later who can help you.
  6. I think I saw several DOLers but didn't talk to any Cole after he got home - dinner then he hasn't bothered to get out of the crate and he only did about 20 minutes proper work all day
  7. Herding training resumes Sat 26/6 and Sun 27/6 9am to 3pm both days. Lunch is 12-1. You need to be a DogsNSW member to train on Saturdays and a Aust Stockdog Club member to train on Sundays. 1st Sat of the month is run by the NSW herding Association and you need to be a member of that club to train. Membership is for insurance purposes.
  8. You need to check with the DNA testing companies to see if the have a DNA test for PRA in Weis. Its available for a lot of breeds now.
  9. DNA testing can be done at any age so long as they are big enough to microchip. My dog had his CEA done at 2 weeks old. Physical eye exams need to be done yearly as PRA won't be detected till it starts to present changes in the eyes and that age varies with breed and the type of PRA.
  10. Well done Jules and Poppy Definitely do intermediate.
  11. I think you'll find these are bred by the man at Berkshire Park not imported. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/archive/news-rel...legal-squirrels ETA I am not for animals like this being sold as pets but if they are licenced to sell them and comply with the regulations of selling them desexed and microchipped (which is more than they do for the puppies and kittens) there is not much you can do.
  12. Since it is not an ANKC sanctioned sport, of course it will not be there There will also be no greyhound racing, sled dog racing, Adac agility, weight pulling etc or any other non ANKC sports. We'll be there down in the herding area.
  13. Congralations on getting your first choice Now we all want to know who is going to be the sire of the first Ildanach litter
  14. And your experience with working dogs is?
  15. Because the ongoing cost of the bitch is part of the cost of breeding a litter. You need to factor in things like entry fees for shows, trials etc that are part of proving your bitch is worth breeding from. ETA the average pet isn't DNA tested as new tests become available, hip and elbow scored, yearly eye and other health tests etc that are carried out on breeding dogs. Ok, so what are the costs for shows, etc per year? If the bitch has a littler of 10 pups each time she is bred that's a fair amount of money. I have always wondered about this so would be keen to know the answer If she has 10 pups. I spend about $1000 a year on trial entry fees, training fees etc plus the time it takes but it is my hobby. Also I only trial about once a month not show every weekend. I don't show so you would need a show person to answer that. You seem to have a problem with the fact that someone may make a profit from breeding a litter. They also take a huge risk of loosing the bitch, the pups etc.

  17. or 5 or 6 depending an health tests, vet bills etc. And you do need to take into account the ongoing costs of keeping the bitch etc. Providing the breeder is ethical and does the right thing with health tests, breeding for a better dog (whether conformation or working), breeder support why shouldn't they make a profit?
  18. A pure bred kelpie for that money would probably be a well bred working dog who has been started (already had it basic training) and showing a lot of potential or a proven working dog and worth that money to a farmer. Not the dog you would want as a pet. When you take into account the cost of breeding breeders are lucky to make money, 1 pup for the sevice fee, 1 pup for feeding, worming etc (including feeding the bitch during pregnancy etc), at least 1 pup for vaccinations, vet bills, health tests etc and 1 pup to keep. That is if nothing goes wrong like a caesar.
  19. I have a friend who did give all of a litter away except for on she sold for a pittance, not because she didn't have buyers for the pupos but because they were the right homes where the pups would realise their potential.
  20. There are no laws against cross breeding and the way ANKC registrations are falling there are not enough ANKC registered pups being born to meet the demand for pups, even allowing for the number of dogs PTS each year in pounds etc. (dons my flame suit). The crime isn't the cross breeding but the way the pups and bitches are kept and raised, the disregard for genetic problems and the lack breeder support for the pups.
  21. I'm also a NO. On an unemotional level my stud agreement says the birth of a live litter. To me that is healthy live puppies born. I think if the pups died after that and had been well cared for I would give a return service. On an emotional level - what was he doing having a feeding bitch chained in a garage in this cold weather?
  22. You can show a desexed dog in neuter classes if the show offers them and they have just bought in a new neuter championship. The dog still needs to be main register I know in NSW you need to have your dogs papers amended to "neuter"
  23. I prefer them cold and hard particularly 2 days old after the dung beetles have dealt with them and nothing remains. I hate winter when dung beetles are les active.
  24. I can't answer you question as I don't know if I could pick an amstaff from a pitty with accuracy and in a way it is irrelevant. Just because a dog can jump a 5 foot fence or because it may be a pitbull doen't mean it will jump a 4 foot fence to attack or harrass you or your dogs. The dogs may be in the habit of visiting next door to play or be fed etc but have no desire to escape.
  25. Yawning is a pacifying signal. I would say he is telling he everything is OK, he's no threat so calm down. It is also used to relieve stress.
