Purebred working BCs are still used as are working kelpies. There would be very very few ANKC BCs working on real properties.
-
They are working BC prefixes. Princes is Greg Ptrince who is one of Australia's best 3 sheep triallers. I know of a lot of the others as well. Are the parents Juppa Boss and Crowesdale Slice?

A dally that poodlefan and I know the owner of quite well ;) Can you imagine all the puppy poop she's dealing with now I don't even want to think about it
-
A dally on the south coast gave birth to 17 pup last month - 16 survived. From memory DOLer Yarrowfell's dog was the father.
-
Is he eating? I have had a dally who has acted similarly when she had pulled stomach muscles. ETA While chester probably doesn't have pulled stomach mucles it is the pain reaction that is similar

Are OES and English setters rare in WA? Love the photos

Sounds like you had a good weekend Dova and well donre on the driving. We're back from our weekend away and I discovered a new way of doing things - arm chair herding We were sittin on the fenceline in a yard about the size of a large HT arena teaching dogs to drive. The set up was a Y shute with the exit about 6m from the corner and up the next fenceline a panel with a 1m opening and 6 BCs on the other side of the fence. When no one was working I decided to give Cole a go but was too tired to stand up so directed him from my chair and he worked realy well. We then worked on getting the angle right to force the sheep into the panel after the Y shute despite the pressure from the dogs on the other side of the fence. By the end he was putting them through the panel with no commands. We also did some beautiful long c asts but I still am having problems with him stopping at the top. He does bring the sheep straight back to me but I want that stop.

Found it in the 2010 Conference summary

http://www.ankc.org.au/Improving-outcomes-...-Australia.aspx There was something else too but haven't found it - maybe in the ANKC minutes
-
I was aware of it as it was either in a press release or in ANKC minutes - not sure which.

It tastes good I have 2 cows here and they seem to have preferences for the grass in certain spots and at diffeent growth phases. The 3rd dog hardly ever grazes.
-
Have fun -I haven't been game to try cattle because knowing my luck Cole wouldn't duck quickly enough I'm off for a weekend on sheep as well at a friends place. A group of us are going and we're going to start a couple of pups, including a Cole baby, as well as do some work with the older dogs. Then Sat night will be a Chrissy party.

Purina's "information" On Feeding Bones To Dogs
Janba replied to Whippetsmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wonder how dogs survive in their natural state without all dying from the problems caused by eating bones Dogs evolved to eat bones (among other things) not processed food which hasn't been around for that long. -
What a bizare comment. Danois doesn't care if the dog is purebred, pedigree or Heinz variety. You make rather odd statements, I thought you were a well educated person or am I mistaking you with someone else? I missed that comment and it is odd considering how very inbred the litter is.

it is not something I would put up on a public forum You'd take it to the vet to PTS so as not to break any laws.

Karen Pryor Academy In Australia
Janba replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
55 Chevy What exactly are you aiming at when training a dog? What do you want your dogs to do? It seems your replies are all based around dogs with aggression problems and from a lot of your posts dogs hard working dogs with unstable temperaments. Have you ever trained and competed with a dog at high levels of obedience, agility, sheepdog trialling etc? Edited because I left out the un in unstable -
Was that the Shelley who was dumped on tortured the dumped on the railway track? The owner in this case is the one to blame not the RSPCA. Sometime PTS is kinder.

Take her back to the vet or the emrgency vet now.

A bit of confusion maybe? Your acting differently (having visions of JulesP flanking her sheep ) . I would be taking her back as soon as possible and as often as you can and just letting her turn on again and start working. You know she has instinct and unless you have squashed which I doubt it is still there just needs to be bought out again.
-
Not that strange - from what I have read you have been doing obedience training with her and asking her to work close to you and focus on you then you put her back on sheep after not having had much exposure to them and ask her to work away from you and focus on the sheep. Hope that makes sense. It is not a huge problem as most dogs with instinct will very quicly start working again.

Is this the dog that you were getting to keep the old foxie company?
-
Ah ok I'm in Batemans Bay (south coast NSW, about 4 hours south of Sydney). I'm not too optimistic about my chances of finding any sort of events in my area. I did find the 'Dogs NSW' site though which seems to be the CCC for NSW. Lots of info there. I'll look into it. Thanks for the info You could always try obendience or agility instead. It is the mental stimulation that is important whether it is herding agility etc. Give Mia a job to do.

Karen Pryor Academy In Australia
Janba replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would have thought that this was a leadership problem rather than a working dog problem Surely one of the characteristics of a GOOD working dog is the desire to work with and obey the trainer and also a good off switch as well as on switch. A working dog, no matter what discipline, who expends energy unecessarily when not working may end up not having the energy reserves necessary when he is required to work -
