  1. Mishka came down from Qld atb 4 months old named Mishka and I liked it. The Bulgarian meaning of mouse suits hr. Moss - I had always liked Moss as a BC name and the breeder let me register him as Ansavon Moss. Cole is the first part of his registered name and what his breeder called him. After heaps of converstaions with the breeder about which pup from 2 available litters I would get (I had pick of them)the name had stuck.
  2. I had a border collie who prefered to be outside and would sit in pouring rain squinting to stop the water running into his eyes even though he had access to the house and dog beds under a covered entertainment area. Double coats have water proof qualities and when you parted his coat his skin would be dry.
  3. I am so sorry to read this . Hamlet was one of my favourite DOL dogs Fly free Hamlet
  4. Bitches can be tarts  . One of the bitches my dogs was mated too was mated on 2 optimum days according to progesterone tests. 10 days after the first mating (about day 20) the bitches owner and I were together and she let the bitch out for a pee (the only male present was my boy). We turned our backs for a minute and they were tied. At that stage she shouldn't have even been standing and she was quite happy. Pups were born 63 days from the first mating.
  5. One of my dogs breeders sent pictures if his more illustrious ancestors in his puppy pack. The when I went to look the first litter of pups he sired their breed had an old book of famous ISDS dogs, complete with pictues, many were in his pedigree. I have traced his pedigree back to the foundation of the ISDS registry (1906) and it is fascinating. It is fascinating.
  6. Last time I asked GSS/GTG if any BCs had tested as carriers or affected for MDR1 their answer was no. If you do a search for MDR1 the only BC tested as a carrier was a dog of unknown parentage so probably not a pure BC.
  7. I had just ordered the whole box n dice for one of mine from ASAP. $135 for a complete breed profile (DNA Profile, CEA, CL, TNS, MDR1, Long coat, Colour). You will need to supply at least two (maybe three) sets of swabs (2 swabs/packet) as ASAP need to send out for the some of the tests. The return email stated a return of 14-21 days. Ok for me as there is no rush and it is then all done. If you were needing the tests done more urgently, then you would maybe better off sending swaps to the individual labs offering the TNS (Uni NSW) and GTG for CEA, CL. ASAP may nbe offering TNS and CL but they are not licensed to carry out the tests.
  8. Probably with the import ban on GSDs in 1928. I would have to do research to see if this was the first. ETA in Australia Even if you were right, which your not. The law requiring greyhounds to be muzzled when off their owners property, as in being walked or racing, was introduced in 1927. As previously requested....do your homework before you jump in. I stand corrected but I did say probably as I posted from memory. I am old enough to remember the lifting of the ban. I can also remember the days before our current bans and restricted breed laws. Attitudes like yours are what make people who don't own restricted breeds less likely to support your cause to get the laws lifted.

  10. Crap. BSL means exactly what it says and is any legislation that is breed specific regardless of the breed. Of course those the owners of non banned dogs can't possibly worry about it ever applying to them (need the rolly eye man)
  11. I can't really help with the cost as it is 6 years since I imported one from NZ. He was bought in in the same crate as his litter sister and it cost about $400 each - approx 5kg puppies. There is no quarantine importing from NZ but do have to have a health check before leaving. Google AQIS for the requirements. ETA link http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs/cat1?name=New%20Zealand
  12. Irresponsible parents are not the only reason a child can be in danger - look at natural disasters. My dogs me the world to mean and are the main reason I keep going with the crap health I have but given the choice between saving them or a strange child I would choose the child. In 10 years time none of my dogs will still be alive but the child I save may have 60 or 70 years of life left. So much potential and who know that child may be the one who goes on to discover the cure for cancer.
  13. I have also seen the hell someone goes through from having dogs die in the car. This lady was unloading the car and her 2 dogs leapt into the car without her realising. She shut the doors and didn't realise the dogs were missing till some time later and found them both dead. We don't know the full circumstances of why he forgot he had a dog in the car, maybe he was did not normally transport dogs, maybe he was called to quickly come and help in an urgent situation, maybe he was thinking of anything but work. Until we know the full circumstances we can't judge. RIP Colette
  14. Your original post reads that you have forgotten to feed them dinner.
  15. Being used hasn't really changed Cole who has always been a gentleman with bitches. If anything he is better as he only really worries about in season bitches when they are standing and the rest of the time he just flirts. My other male BC was castrated as he used to totally lose the plot if he even whiffed a bitch in season. It really depends on the dog.
  16. You never know. Long hair is a recessive gene and neither bullies and rotties carry the gene. I am not sure of the genetics behind the white maltese coat and size can very vary a lot between crosses. I had a friend who had a maltese x kelpie (mother) x GSD (father) and she was just a little bigger than a maltese.
  17. I am not anti tail docking for traditionally docked breeds. Even some non traditional breeds can be very prone to tail injuries and you learn to manage. My current dally (not the one who broke her tail by wagging it against an umbrella stake) has has a split tail by wagging against things.
  18. My dog never injured it again and Dallies are prone to injuring their tails from over exuberant wagging.
  19. Another question. Why are legally docked dogs docked to what is normal for docking in that breed not to 1 or 2 vertebrae below the injury as the end of the tail is more likely to be injured than towards the base. When I had a dog injure aa tail (non docked breed) and it looked like it would have to be amputated the vet was going to do the amputation 2 vertebrae below the injury not near the base.
  20. The letter was dated 23/1/2013 and I know that Dogs NSW hasn't had a board meeting yet this year so can't have bought the matter up yet - not sure about other states.
  21. State bodies need to be lobbied to vote against the motion & Dogs Vic needs to be lobbied to withdraw the motion if that is your desire. Motions can be voted against and not accepted as happened with the motion was tabled that the ANKC request the FCI to accept the Australian border collie standard as Australia was the "country of development". ANKC members need to actively try to participate not just complain.
