  1. My puppy isn't going to happen - mum failed hip scores
  2. I would second geeting the sperm tested and take your bitch to a good repro vet to make sure she hasn't developed a problem.
  3. Bordatella is a protobacterial cause of kennel cough. If Poppy has been vaccinated she is less likely to contract this so antibiotics are probably unneccessary. ETA Kennel cough is like human flu. Vaccinations lessen the severity but don't neccessarily stop the dog contracting it. I stopped vaccinating for kennel cough years ago and haven't had a dog get it despite being out and about at trials etc. They build up a natural immunity.
  4. He will probably also settle down in a few days as he gets used to you and Poppy but cooect him before it beomes a habit.
  5. Its more likely to be dominance related than sexual - most entire male dogs know when a bitch is in season and ready to be mated. I would correct him when he does it. ETA Poppy will probably "tell him off" when she gets sick of it which is also normal behaviour.
  6. Interesting, so smooth collies always recessive for rough? It is not that way in border collies, then can be SS and will never produce rough pups nomatter what coat type they are bred to. According to Sheila Schmutz the rough and smooth collie are the same as the borders http://homepage.usask.ca/~schmutz/coatType.html My curiosity made me go and look.
  7. I have had people contact me to ask about litters my dog may have sired. They are usually people who want the particular bloodlines etc for a reason rather than a pet dog of that breed. As the owner of the stud dog I can put whatever I like in my stud contract and that could include "you must offer a puppy to XYZ" but doubt I would. I will pass on details of the mating to people interested and the bitch owners details (with permission) as I feel that unless the bitch owner is overly protective of their lines they will be ameniable to selling to a person who knows their breed and has done enough research to want particular lines. My dog is used for performnce breeding not show so it could be different in the show lines.
  8. I was also going to say seperate the rabbits from the pups. Just because a dog is a good working dog does not mean that the dog won't kill smaller prey animals and 2 untrained pups fixating on the rabbits could lead to problems if the rabbits run.
  9. Training on and off does no harm to the dogs but it does make progressing slower just like any other activity you do with your dog. The boy I train lives to work sheep and has just had 3 months off (saw sheep twice in that time) and when I took him back to training on Sat he worked beautifully and calmly.
  10. There is herding every Sat and Sun at the DogsNSW gounds at Erskine Park Sat - is run by the Sporting Committee and for insurance purposes you need to be a DogsNSW member. Training costs $5 per dog and runs 9-3 Sun is run by the Australian Stockdog Club and you need to be a member. $28 per year membership and $5 joining fee though at this time f the yrae it will probably only be $14 membership. Training costs $3 and is 9-3 Hawkesbury Working Sheepdog Club trains on a Sat morning behind Hawkesbury Racecourse but last I heard membership was closed due to numbers.
  11. Contact DogsQld - they should be able to help you. I know NSW is doing but thats not much help to you.
  12. So why the hell are they in there at all ? They dont recognise a pitty as a breed yet they can identify it and teach others how to identify it as a breed. Not to help their own members and their own members dogs. Shameful. Steve I don't disagree with you but I can't see how you are going to get them to change and fight for a non recognosied breed when the owners of that breed give them no support. Maybe someone like the MDBA is the body to lead the fight. Im not asking for them to fight for pits Im saying why are they involved in this at all. Its not their dogs, their members or one of their breeds. But their response and participation in this is detrimental and gives weight to the whole crap shoot. Under no condition would I ever expect them to fight for a breed that isnt one of their own so why are they in there teaching people how to identify a dog which they are not in any way shape or form involved in? It shouldn't be necessary to identify a bloody dog by breed in order to judge whether its able to do XYZ or live or be treated as if it were any other dog and thats the message that should be out there - not we will look after our own by identifying thise which are not our own. When their own can only be a dog with papers anyway. I feel (and I may be wrong) that they are in it to protect their own and because of their egos. Unfortunately while we have BSL people are going to want to identify breeds so they can enforce the legislation. I do know the real answer is to remove BSL and judge a dog as itself not as to what it "may" just be capable of because it is a certain breed but until that happens rangers etc are going to be asked to identify what breed a dog is and judge it accordingly. In a way I would rather DogsNSW ran this than the RSPCA.
  13. And a lot of the other purebred registries don't recognise ANKC pedigrees either.
  14. So why the hell are they in there at all ? They dont recognise a pitty as a breed yet they can identify it and teach others how to identify it as a breed. 15. Members can stop decisions by the ANKC as was done recently with some LRLs but done through the correct channels of the national breed council. BSL totally aside your talking about a non ANKC recognized breed and expecting the ANKC to fight when you provide no financial or other support. They are fightimng for their breeds and while it may prove to be the wrong way that is where their loyalty lies. What is needed is a non affiliated body to fight these fights. People come on and say that no one can accurately recognise a pitbull or a pit bull cross. Maye there is therefore no such breed or you need to get people who you trust as assessors into the scheme. The requirement for council officers to identify bull and hunting breeds is not going to miraculously disappear overnight while NSW has its current regulations. The requirement for accurate identification goes beyond bull breeds - how often have you seen a ticked working border collie labelled as a ACD cross - more often than they are accurately identified.
  16. If they bothered to ask for and read the agenda for the board meetings and read the minutes of the board meeting the answer is probably yes.
  17. I am going to ask a question How many of the people who criticise the ANKC/ DogsNSW etc in regards to BSL are members? The ANKC and state CCs are not a goverment bodies but a societies made up and run by its members. If you don't like what they do join and become active and change how it is run. I am against BSL and don't necessarily agree with what DogsNSW is saying but I also don't expect any club/society etc to go to bat for people who don't belong to it when those people only criticise them.
  18. My objection to the backcross program and to the bob tail boxer program isn't that they introduced the genes from another breed but that they only used ONE dog from that other breed. Can you guarantee that that one dog didn't carry a rare recessive gene that will be a deletarious as the gene they are trying to replace?
  19. I do think it is something to do with honouring other KCs pedigrees. The ANKC is a FCI affiliate even if its not a full member.
  20. You can bring in ISDS dogs that are first generation UK KC registered and have them re registered here. Aren't export pedigrees only 3 generations?
  21. It could also depend on whether you are breeding for show or performance.
  22. In looks maybe to a degree but they are different breeds and as such do have differences.
  23. I love tris but would never pay more for any colour BC than I would for a black and white pup from the same litter. I would consider $800-$1000 pretty normal for a well bred ANKC BC.
  24. Perhaps the trials are not testing for real work. I don't think the trial ring is best test either. I do know I love working my dog.
