  1. He wasn't in rescue but the equivalent of our pounds. He could just as easily end up in a good forever home. It seems from the reports that he now out of pound and in the hands of a rescue group who one would hope would vet their potential adopters.
  2. Mishka I bought sight unseen from interstate and while I liked her when I got her the love developed as I got to know her. The same with Moss who I chose as a pup. Cole I bought in from NZ and when I opened the crate and looked at him I fell in love and he is still a very special dog to me. Heart dogs happen and not often.
  3. I don't show any more but bitches in season are allowed to trial herding. My boy who, who has been used, will call of a standing in season bitch and he will still work well despite knowing they are around. I don't have entire bitches living with me.It's training and while my dog is soft he knows the difference between work and pleasure.
  4. And he is soooooooooo cute, even if Cole did grumble at him for climbing all over him and licking his mouth. He is a nice pup and hopefully will do as well as Tess for you.
  5. Systemic flea control like Capstar and Comfortis don't really help with a flea allergic dog as they kill when the dog is bitten by the flea and that is too late as the allergic reaction starts when the flea bites. I use a spot on and a citronella spray as a deterent and have no problems.
  6. You have been through a lot with Charlie and he does seem a special boy and a beautiful one.
  7. Cole is a border collie (double registered ANKC and ISDS (International Sheep Dog Society)) so full working lines. He just isn't the classically marked black and white people are used too.
  8. Thanks Jules and Casima. Barb I do remember Kirra as the play police-I think I have it on video somewhere . It is like you feel with Rory - Cole was meant to be mine and he is special to me. Its the little things as well as the achievements that matter. He is my sole mate dog.
  9. I do love all 3 of my dogs but Cole is something special. I looked into his face the day I collected him at the airport and fell in love with him. He is never far from me and is the biggest smoocher. He isn't the perfect dog but he tries his heart out for me and forgives me my mistakes in training and trialling. He has taken me further than any other dog I have owned. I love this dog. Just thought I'd share my feelings for my special boy.
  10. Why oh why do they have Aussie Bulldogs listed?? They don't - its American bulldog
  11. In NSW associate register dogs don't have a breed listed and also must be desexed. Thhe form does ask for breed but the dog doesn't have to be sighted.
  12. My dally will also kill possums, rabbbits and birds if she gets the chance but is really good with other dogs, SWF and puppies included. I don't let her hunt if I can help it but there is nothing I can do about the possums in the yard etc.
  13. Well done Piper. Jazz might be a bit sore or may just be being hormonal. She may also be feeling a bit insecure in the open paddock as it is different to trialling A course, even when you work them in training in an open paddock. I know Cole has more of a fear of losing his sheep in B even though I regularly train him in open paddocks. They do pick up the different atmosphere at a trial.
  14. I'm so sorry to read this - he was a beautiful boy.
  15. Thats because Border Collies can do anything and everything.
  16. Yes and they can use the same blood sample. They don't do CEA. http://www.babs.unsw.edu.au/research/canine-genetics-facility-australian-orders
  17. NSW Uni. They developed the test there and I think may be the only ones doing it. Test from memory is about $88 and should only take a week or so to get back depending on how busy they are Edited to change price. The cheaper price must have been from a blood collection day
  18. Well done on the titles GayleK, Weasels and Sherlot Our trial season has finished so I have been training in the open 3 heep arena and I think I have finally managed to solve the top of the cast problems. Cole seems to get into a "zone" of "I've got to get to the sheep as fast as I can" when I cast him so has been hitting the head to fast, not stopping and bringing the sheep back to me as fast as he can and not listening till he is about 50 or 60m away. This m,eans I have unsettled sheep delivered to me and the drives for B course are rushed. I have been stopping him as soon as he gets that look, then resending him to finish the cast. He is then going out quietly, deep and soft at the top and stopping so we are getting a nice quiet delivery. With every thing under control I have then been able to get him to drive the sheep back to the set out point for another run. Thats a straight drive of about 90m. We also had a photographer at training the other day and she took some photos of cole doing a fetch - its a lpong time since I started type fetch

    Toby

I'm so sorry to read this. Too much dally loss too quickly. RIP Pretty Boy Toby, run free with Ellie and Lucky.
  20. Could be a working border collie.
  21. My entire male can smell more than my neutered male and female but only because his aim isn't always good and he pees on his front leg . Entire males urine does have a much stronger odour.
  22. If it had been me I would have offered to take the pup back and replace with one with the next litter. If the owners decided that they wanted to keep the pup and try their best for it I would still have offered a new pup when the time was right, but would not offer to pay for any treatment past that point. Saying that it would depend on how the pup owner had contacted me. If they had contacted me with demands for treatment etc and blaming me for breeding a sick pup I might be a bit less forthcoming.
  23. Comgenital does not necessarily mean genetic - it means present at birth. I don't know enough about samoyeds to know if they have genetic problems with liver shunts or if is a developmental problem. Liver shunts are also not necessarily diagnosed till problems start to appear. There are 2 sides to every story and you don't know for sure how the breeder was approached or how she first responded. If she has just wiped her hands of it then it is a shame but you don't really know if she offered anything like taking the dog back etc. Hope this dog does find a better home and if not then the owners do thr responsible thing and and make him confortable or PTS if they are not willing to treat him.
