Can Dogs Suddenly Change In Behavour?
Janba replied to Ben and Jerry's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would take him to the vet. I had a dog with changed behaviour and muscle weakness a few years ago that turned out to be a neurological poison she had picked up somewhere. I am not suggesting that this is what it is as her muscle weakness got worse in the space of a few hours, but is always better to be safe than sorry. -
I saw it and was confused

A dog could win BIS while affected with a disease like PRA in its early stages, mild CEA, CL before symptoms show, epilepsy, high hip and elbow scores with no lameness, a unilaterally deaf dog or numerous other diseases. The show ring does not test a dogs genetic health - it is down to the ethics of the person showing the dog.

Women Sues To Prove Dogs Are 'living Souls' Not Property
Janba replied to berly's topic in In The News
This is the dangerous bit. It could have repercussions for registered breeders as well as pet shops. And so it should, they should all be accountable Yes but what happens when you get a disease like TNS?. TNS in border collies was only recognised as a genetic disease, or even as a disease until about 20 years ago but the incidence of carriers means it has been around a lot longer - how many other genetic diseases are there that we don't know are genetic yet?. Most affected pups die very young but some do live to an age to be sold to new owners. Or a pup from lines of dogs with good hip scores that develops HD? If the breeder is held responsible for the dogs future vet bills as well as compensation for suffering despite offering to take the pup back and refund/replace it then it would mean that it could become a financially unfeasable to breed purebred dogs. -

Should Regional Areas Have To Support Erskine Park.?
Janba replied to klink's topic in General Dog Discussion
But that doesn't take into account the levies collected at each show. It does because the levy is per dog and the entry numbers for the show are published. I agree but that information should be accessible by someone that is involved with DogsNSW. Im not about to put in that kind of effort unless someone at a high level is prepared to take this on with me. Otherwise it would be a complete waste of time. There lies a lot of the problems that occur in the dog world. To get onto the 2010 BoD you would have needed less than 300 votes if I remember correctly for the lowest number of votes for someone elected. Do something for what you believe in rather than expect people who are "high level" to do it. I don't show but am passionate about my ANKC sport and I do do a fair bit towards the running of it as well as towards what we want with our facilities. If you want improvements or to be heard you need to work for it. -

It would be very easy, but time consuming, to work out how much levy is collected from each region and also from non EP metropolitan shows. You only need to go through the journals for a year. I am sure I have seen membership figures published for each region and you could work out affiliation fees from the listed affiliated clubs. -
Just because someone joined 2 years ago doesn't mean that they have been reading DOL for 2 years. The OP may have only come back now when she has a problem.

You could try the emergency vet at Baulkham Hills.

BCs don't necessarily need a huge amount of physical exercise - they need mental stimulation. My BCs are NEVER walked and they are happy and well adjusted because they get mental exercise. The dog being a rescue dog may be older than what you think and be age related. I would take the dog to the vet for a thorough check up.

I hope she is OK, I will keep her in my thought: . It must have been awful

Happy New Year

Oh how cute! It is cute. Mine never worried till 2 years ago when someone down the road let of what could only be described as a home made bomb it was so loud. Apparently he blew his hand off . Kids can be so stupid.

I think my dogs are wondering why they are wearing t shirts and locked inside. The local school usually has fireworks but not this year. I can't remember such a quiet Saturday night.
-
No 9pm fireworks. This New Years eve is broken but wonderful.
-
It is so quiet here. No parties or even traffic just the parrots. I am sure it will get worse but hopefully it means no one close is having a party.
-
I don't have a thunder shirt but put an old t shirt on my 2 boys knotting the slack snuggly on their back. They get anxious rather than panicky and the shirt does help their anxiety. The dally just sleeps through fireworks.
