What Does Your Dally Diet Consist Of?
Janba replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed a mixture of kibble and raw - approx 50/50. Mishka doesn't really care what she is fed so long as it is food and there is plenty of it. -
Lost German Shepherd Canberra Now Found Hoorah
Janba replied to Pat Smith's topic in General Dog Discussion
I hope she if found. -
Sometimes it is a lot easier to analyse a dogs body language on a video than it is in real life - you have the ability to replay whereas in real ;life you can blink and miss an important signal.

If she yelped she is probably sore. If you were sore how would you feel about someone laying on you?I would have her checked by the vet for any problems first to determine if she is still tender from the desexing or has some other problem. She probably gave warnings before she snapped but as these can happen very quickly they are easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking for. The snapping is a warning, but won't necessarily escalate to a bite unless you let it by continuing to let you son cause discomfort to the dog. Vet first, behaviouralist second if she is given a clean bill of health

Not allowed by the ANKC but I'm not sure about the AKC. -
Double Merle Rough Collies & Wesminster
Janba replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
The shocking part isn't that you would use a blind deaf dogs as a sire (providing you were sure his blindness and deafness was due to double merle not some other genetic problem), but that someone would do a merle to merle mating knowing there is a good chance of producing bline and deaf pups. -
Meet Timmy... Latest Foster Puppy
Janba replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
He is cute The ticking could very easily come from the border collie. It is present in a lot of working bred BCs and is a dominant gene. The show BCs have bred it out. -
Will they? I hope not - surely it has to be done in writing? Why she/he is the only person with acess to the membership number. If the person is not a member they may then require it in written form. :) Thats not true. If you have ever entered a show, trial etc the secretaries have you member ship number, anyone with a pup you have bred has your membership number and numerous other cases. I have even seen membership numbers in catalogues.

I don't know how much it is for dogs but the medicare gap I pay is $190 so they are not cheap.

The worry with a yo yoing testi is that it will grow too large to fit through the opening into the scrotum and get stuck on the wrong side.
-
I think the fact that we continually check to see if it is there makes they yo yoing worse  "She's going to play with my balls again - better hide it"

Do You Refer To Yourself As Your Dog's Mum/dad?
Janba replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
No but I do refer to one of by boys offspring as my grand daughter as does his owner. -
One of mine had a yo yo testicle - sometimes there, sometimes not. It was always palpable in the inguenal(sp?) canal near the scrotum but wouldn't stay down. My vet (repro specialist) put him on a magnesium & zinc supplement and I kept him lean as fat puppies do have more problems with testis. Investigation into his lines showed that they had slow descending testis and his was finally down by 6 months. The ANKC does allow up to 6 months for testis to descend for showing.
-
Not all lumps on testis are cancer but I have a feeling that the majority of owners have the dogs castrated without further investigation when a lump is found.

I will measure mine at the weekend. My set is 4 jumps that stack inside each other for storage. The angle is less than 45 degrees.

Itchy Skin But No Fleas, Redness, Etc?
Janba replied to Kirty's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Is she shedding? I find both my boys get very itchy when shedding but have no fleas, allergies etc. I think the loose hair just gets itchy -
You can still show you dog as an associate member but would have no voting rights, cannot have a breeders prefix or sit on a Dogs NSW committee.

"Cruisy" BCs can be a product of training. All of mine have been "cruisy" at home because that is what I expect. Moss is very low drive but Cole is high drive with a brilliant off switch. He is very laid back at home but I can put him into drive so easily when I want too. ETA a good breeder can pick a laid back pup for you rather than a high drive pup.
-
For all 3 of my dogs I am the most important thing in their lives not the other dogs (maybe food is more important to the dally  ). When I get a pup I spend a lot of one on one time with the pup and training also helps form a bond. BCs are a breed that tends to bond easily to their owner rather than the other dogs. My youngest BC has never shown any interest in chasing small animals despite the fact that my other 2 chase possums. I have done no training with him in regards to not chasing so sometimes it is just the nature of the dog.

You mean this one under the show regulations

Hi Kerry - it is good to have you here. The 2012 calender for EP is in the files section of the HerdingEP yahoo group. I can't help with clinics in the hunter. Are you going to do driving and intermediate this year? ETA Bluey is a lovely dog to watch working.

I don't know if you have ever seen a fully erect dog penis - it is huge and long and would put a human male to shame. Most of the sperm is ejaculated at the start and would be deposited further up the vagina than in a vaginal AI. During the tie prostatic fluid (sp) is released and this nourishes the sperm and increases it longevity and mobility. With a trancervical AI a scope is put up the vagina and a thin tube is threaded through it and through the cervix into the vagina. If the vet has trouble inserting the tube through the cervix the vet may have to ultrasound to determine how the cervix is positioned. This means you need a clean space, access to power and an easily handled bitch if you do it at home plus an additional cost compared a vaginal AI. If you get a natural mating or even better 2 you will have just as good a good chance of a pregnancy compared to a natural and an AI. If you are really worried have the dogs semen evaluated before mating.
