Very cute! Lily just loves that toy! Love the pink bed! Thanks Mel... she is obsessed with that toy... it is her inside toy.

My girl hiccuped all the time at the beginning even when she was asleep but she doesn't do it anymore... so i think they do grow out of it and fairly quickly...
-
My pup sticks her whole head in her bowl of water and then comes over to you and shakes it everywhere... she loves drinking and sharing her water with your feet as she always has to lick them after having a big drink...

Every breed of dog is different, every individual dog is different. My pup slept inside for the first couple of months and until she had her final shots. She now sleeps outside, but is inside with us until we go to bed, at that point she pretty much gets in her kennel and goes to sleep. Then when we are up in the morning she is inside with us until we leave for work. When we get home from work, she is taken for a walk and then fed and spends the time inside with us until bed. She is an absolute delightful dog, no chewing, no barking, very happy and loving.. very well behaved all round. But like i said each breed, each dog is different. I don't believe that by having your pup inside at the beginning you are not going to be able to put them outside later on. I had no issues with this - but you might find that you are happy with your pup inside all the time. Its just important to see how your dog is reacting to each situation and making sure that it is happy.

Well fingers crossed we can bypass the chewing, but hey, she may just grow into that faze instead of out of it... she is no saint but i am very happy at how well behaved she has been so far. She drags her bed out of her kennel every day but never even chews that... perhapes she doesn't know if she can... she doesn't bark either, once or twice but that is about it...

Great help, just nice to know other situations. My pup is 21 weeks and has done no chewing, just dug one hole, but i don't want to jinx anything.. still waiting!!

I am so sorry for your loss.

Ha ha... thats what i am worried about... I assume because i questioned this today, i will get home tonight and she will have chewed something...
-
My sister has 2 dogs and they chewed everything, her deck area, her outdoor setting etc but they no longer chew these sorts of things. I was just asking because my pup has not done any chewing, only on her toys, so was just wondering the age i should be cautious of it starting... I will look around for some other threads. Thanks.

Just wondering, from experience could someone tell me - at what time frame do pups start to chew and when is the worst period?? And also at what point should they stop??

Thanks LilyW! Your pup is gorgeous too! she is so big now! do you know how much she weighs? When we took her to the vet last week she was 15kg... the bigger she gets the more of a scardy pants she is becoming though... Max is growing very fast as well... boys are usually bigger though...

I am heading to the beach today and my boyfriend will be down on the weekend, so his mum is looking after our 17 week old pup for 2 days and i have been stressing about 2 days... I assume it is quite normal to stress and worry when going away, but as long as you arrange the appropriate care for your pup and they are well looked after, then all will be fine and your pup won't forget you Diesel, after all you have been through together, he will never forget you! 3 weeks flys!

Lily had her little operation this morning. She is asleep next to me right now and very drowsy but all went well.......

Daisy is so cute though.... so innocent?? I have always wanted a beagle, love them but everyone has said, oh there barkers and howlers be careful... but any dog can be like that - luck of the draw i guess. They are just showing their personality. My sisters friend has a beagle, he moved into a house and within a week the dog had dug up a handbag from his backyard, he took it to the police and it was stolen 10 years ago. And then they lost him one day when away camping and eventually found him in a locked caravan eating a loaf of bread, noone knows how he got in. Full of mischeif!!

I haven't met a beagle that isn't a barker. But they are just too cute.... When we were at puppy school there was a dog next door who was obviously in for an op or something, howling all through the class, and when we got taken on a tour through the vet and came to the dog, it was a tiny beagle puppy.. sounded like a dog triple its size from the other room.

Everyone has different opinons on bathing. Our vet advised us that every 10 weeks is probably best. You shouldn't over bath but obviously pups can get a bit smelly. Our pup had her first at 16 weeks, but she was never much of a smelly one. So it is really up to you. It is best to get them used to it earlier, so i would say bath away...
-
Our girl hardly barks at 16 weeks - and i don't believe it is such a bad thing... the last thing you want is a constant barker.. I think our pup hears the dog behind our place and has decided she does not want to turn out like that...
-
Its funny everyone thinks our pup is a black lab, even the vet, i am starting to think maybe she is, hmmmm... but she is a retriever x rotti - i guess retrievers and labs are kinda similar when their young and the fact that she is black... could be that aswell!! How cute, hope you had a towel... we tried to get our pup to put her pours in the water the other day and instead she sat right in it and we had the car - so we had to get a jumper to wipe her butt.....
-
So we gave our 16 week old pup her first bath on the weekend. And good news - she loved it. Must be the retriever in her. She dropped in the bath, she laid down and just loved it. I got in the bath last night and next minute there is this head resting on the side looking in - she so wanted to hop in. I just kept flicking water at her which she kept trying to catch with her mouth... so though this is not a problem, just thought i would share with you a good news story for the day!

And its going to get worse before it gets better....

I caught Lily the other day at the tree, it was funny cause she gently picked up a ball and removed it from the tree, then looked at me with a look of... what?? I spend alot of my nights at home saying... Lily NO... !

Our pup is fed quite early Monday to Friday before we head to work, so every Sat and Sunday at 6am on the dot - i swear she has a clock in her kennel - she barks. "Where's my breaky ma... !!" We just ignore her. Dogs over time will eventually get used to your routine. Growing up we had a dog that my dad would walk the same way Monday to Sat but would change on Sundays and the dog eventually knew on Sunday which way to go. We are pretty lucky as Lily is not very noisy but on weekends we do make an effort to pop her out with her toys while we do some house work. She needs to get used to being outside when we are home aswell as when we are not. But when she is outside we don't make eye contact and she is only let in once she is quiet...
