The lady who owns the dog is a school teacher at my friends kids school, so I'm getting 2nd hand info - and like I said - I don't know if anything has been left out. I have pointed this out to my friend that if the dog has gotten out and/or attacked something/someone then it's a totally different story, but my friend is adamant that has not happened, and the dog is not aggressive at all. Given that she's a school teacher though, I can't see any motivation for her to lie or to keep a dangerous dog? Guess I'll just wait and see what happens.

Just thought I'd ask for some helpful suggestions. A friend of mine just called me and said that her friend has had her dog seized by the council and they are refusing to give it back. It's apparently a Rotti x (does not look like a pitty) and the story is that the neighbour hates it and has made up some rubbish about it and so the council came and took it. I don't know the full story, but the owner is adamant that it's not a vicious dog, and thinks her local council has now locked the dog up somewhere in 'Bringelly' and it's costing $30 a day to keep it there. I thought maybe Renbury?? She said it was going to be temp assessed there? This dog hadn't gotten out, or threatened any human or animal, so she was shocked that the council can seize someone's dog without any proof of it doing anything wrong, just on some vindictive persons word. She's fighting it and has engaged a lawyer, however, my friend doubts this lawyer is well versed in dog specific cases, and so any helpful suggestions would be welcomed. Are there any cases similar in NSW? Are there any lawyers anyone knows of that have dealt with similar matters before? Apparently she lives in the St George area, not sure what council is involved.

I opened my emails to find your post on RottsANZ, and I gasped with shock. It feels like the end of an era. For as long as I can remember, Ash has been what we all strive for, not only in his conformation, and his ring presence. Nekhbet, Tigger turned her hocks out when we first got her - she ended up doing a cruciate and luxating patellas in both knees. Have his knees been checked? To correct, Tigger had to have tibial crest relocation in both knees (done at different times). Poor bugger looks very bad in the rear... I hope something can be done.

Totally agree Kiash - the dogs that I know that have done well with rotten hips have all had good muscle build up in the area and that was what 'held' it all together. Swimming is a great way to do that. Looking at the photos - he has little to no muscle at all - which would definitely be contributing the problem and making it worse. Before making any major decisions, why don't you try building the muscle up and see if it helps at all?

Leanne (Bellarouge on the other forum) had a Bullmastiff female (Roxy) that lived a very long life with "the worst hips" the vet had "ever" seen. Get in touch with her and she'll tell you what she did.

So glad that Sophie is doing well Anne. I haven't come in to read the updates for a little while, and news that she's still going strong is great. As you said, considering they didn't give her past January, you are definitely doing something right. As for pills, my mum had a very fussy toy poodle who managed to sniff tablets out of everything - except liverwurst. I don't know the ingredients, so I don't know if there is anything in it that you would prefer not to give Sophie - but it's great for hiding pills from fussy dogs. Mum's toy poodle lived until she was 18, so it definitely didn't hurt her.... To give Tigger pills, I used to lift her jowel - put the tablet between a gap in the teeth on the side of the mouth, she'd open her mouth a little to investigate the foreign object I'd inserted - and I'd just poke my finger in after the tablet and it was gone before she knew it.... I had to trust her not to chomp down on my finger....

Totally agree with you Tony.... With the info that I got after the initial phone call (and post) - I don't think she should be put to sleep.

The more I think about it (and the more I hear about what exactly happened) the more I just think this is an incident that has occurred due to lack of supervision and nothing more. I think that I agree with you Dru. I do understand that she does need to be out of the environment she's in, and I do understand that by brother-in-law now doesn't trust her. She can't be locked up every time the kids want to play outside (and it's not fair on her either). So... where do I find this ideal home..... bonus is that she's already desexed - so she is a good candidate....
