  1. Us dogue people do not have an affiliated breed club. We have a club, but we don't have the numbers to affiliate in any state as yet. There was only 2 of us manning our stand with 2 dogs each on both days. Thankfully our guys handled it wonderfully, and we just rotated who was in the pen in front so they other 2 could get a rest in the crates behind. We thought it important to attend to change the breeds perception (and hopefully get some interest in the rescue's I've been getting). We are also 'protected' under the ANKC/Dogs NSW umbrella BUT, Dogue de Bordeaux's are also AKC registered in the USA, but that hasn't stopped local counties banning them in many areas in the USA (as have Rottweilers, Doberman's and others - even Husky's!!). Our problem is that guys want big tough dogs, and now that pitbulls are on the outer, these same idiots will turn to the breeds they are 'allowed' to have. Unfortunately, the Dogue is not an aggressive breed, and has too high a tolerance level to 'turn' - and abuse to try to agitate them simply breaks their spirit and hearts - these are some of the dogs we've got through rescue - they haven't turned out 'tough enough'. It's not about selling puppies - it's about educating the public. My breed looks like a big menacing dangerous breed - I want people to see that the 'look' of a dog has nothing to do with the temperament of the dog. It's the only way that we might be able to change the attitude towards BSL.
  2. I don't recommend Chris Preston, not because of his skills, but because of other things, PM me if you want more details. I dissuade my rescue adopters from seeing him.
  3. Well im the girl with the partner who had a massive obsession with them :) hahah OH loves them!!... when we are ready for another dog im very sure your dogs have convinced him a dogue is the right breed. LOL - there were quite a few people who came up whose 'partners were obsessed with them' - Glad you loved our dogues. It's a big weekend for our guys, especially in the heat, but they coped alright, although by this afternoon they were racing to get to the car to come home to the air conditioning ;)
  4. I'm on the Dogue de Bordeaux stand with Leanne (Flealea on here). Feel free to come up and get slobbered on :D
  5. We ran the Dogue de Bordeaux stand, and we are not a breed club. We were not really 'asked' but when we found out about it, we asked if we could have a stand even though we don't have an affiliated breed club - Dogs NSW were thrilled and said 'of course'. There were a few unallocated stands, and I know there were dog shows on this weekend as well. I agree that this was a missed opportunity for the Amstaff people, but perhaps they didn't realise they could ask - like we did. Our breed is one where there is now a lot of unethical breeders, who are not health testing, and I am seeing the increase in rescues with each passing year - last year was a record with 20 dogs, and this year I've had 6 already in need. We felt it was important that the public meet our breed, and are educated on the health issues now being seen, and see what they are really like - as opposed to what they see in the movie. It is exhausting, for us and the dogs, and I'm glad that all the dogs were so well behaved today. And Ruthless - nice meeting you and thanks for taking the lovely pics of Viva
  6. Mine is my nickname - although because my brother married a girl with the same first name, even my family refers to me as Wednesday. It obviously came from the Addams Family :D
  7. Well after a paper using a thumbnail image of a Dogue de Bordeaux head (to illustrate a pitbull) and a vet telling me my Bordeaux shouldn't be undershot - I have little faith in anyone identifying a pitbull.
  8. I coordinate Dogue de Bordeaux rescue and have quite an excellent network of breeders in Australia who help with fostering. I have waiting lists most times for rescues (as to buy pups it's quite expensive) but even so, I can usually desex and rehome within 3 weeks. Most are not from pounds, as people are often just referred to me directly when looking to surrender. We produce a calendar every year that we sell to top up the rescue fund, and keep us afloat. Luckily we have had money to cover most things, and we've had no major health issues (or those that have, we've been able to get treatment donated or 'mates rates'). It's can be time consuming and sometimes a little frustrating and stressful, but on the whole, very rewarding when the families keep in touch and send you updates :D Yes, breeders should take their dogs back if needed, but unfortunately, there are lots of BYB's now that are not registered so we have no way of tracking them down - and likewise, the vast majority of DDB breeders are not ethical, and give a 'driveway guarantee' - once it leaves their driveway - it's no longer their problem - so it's left to us to pick up the pieces.
  9. Dogue de Bordeaux - not compulsory, but ethical breeders are testing, and working within the guidelines that have been set on the dogueclub website. Huge problem in the breed - HD, ED, OCD, epilepsy and heart issues are very common. Breeders who are not testing making all sorts of excuses as to why they are not, or just say their vet's tell them the hips are good, no need for scoring or that they can die under anaesthetic so they won't risk it or other such rubbish. On HD in general (not only being a big dog problem): I know someone who bought a Pom x Long haired Chi - it has now been diagnosed with double HD and double luxating patellas. It was being sold as a pure bred Pom (which it has turned out not to be) and they thought they were getting a 'bargain' at $500, cheaper than a registered breeder - well, now it's going to cost in excess of $10,000 to fix. What a 'bargain'...

  11. Watched it as well. A great segment. Fingers crossed it helps home some of these lovely dogs.
  12. The Dogue de Bordeaux Club of Australia have secured world respected breed specialist judge, Mr Bas Bosch (Netherlands) for what we are promoting as a breed speciality show for the Dogue de Bordeaux. Mr Bas Bosch will also hold a Molosser Seminar (and individual critiques following) on the 3rd of April at Erskine Park covering the following breeds: - Dogue de Bordeaux - Neapolitan Mastiff - Bullmastiff and - Mastiff The Castle Hill Ag Society agreed to appoint Bas Bosch as the breed judge for the Dogue de Bordeaux at their 2nd of April show. Mr Bosch will be dictating brief handwritten critiques, and as standard with a breed specialist, Mr Bosch is provided a copy of these for his records. If you wish to receive a copy of your dogs critique, the additional cost is $5.00 per dog, payable to the Dogue Club. Followed the next day, is a Molosser Breed seminar at the Erskine Park Dogs NSW grounds. This will cover Dogue de Bordeaux, Neapolitan Mastiff, Bullmastiff and Mastiff. Essential attendance for all breeders, judges and enthusiasts. The latter half of the day will be dedicated to a limited number of bookings for breeders/owners to have their dogs assessed by Bas Bosch and provided with a high quality, one page, computer printed critique, signed by Bas. All details on how to enter, or secure a place for the Breed Lecture are available on the Dogue Club website: Dogue de Bordeaux Club of Australia This link has details of the Castle Hill Show, as well as the breed lecture, and information about Mr Bas Bosch. Molosser Seminar details are as follows: * Covering: Dogue de Bordeaux, Neapolitan Mastiff, Bullmastiff, Mastiff * Sunday 3rd April 2011 * $30 per person for judges, breeders, owners etc. ($15 Dogueclub Members) Lunch/Refreshments included. Booking and payment required in advance. * Dogs NSW Amenities Building, Luddenham Road, Erskine Park. Sydney * Seminar commencement: 9:00am * Lunch Break: 1:00pm * Detailed Printed Critique Assessments: 2:00pm to 5:00pm (Bookings essential. $30 each paid in advance. 15 mins per dog. 2 dog limit per person/kennel.) Dependent on numbers, we reserve the right to limit bookings based on breed, or extend the session to allow for more bookings. For those Dogue de Bordeaux admirers, we are hoping there will be a huge turnout at Castle Hill for the show, so if you want to come and see the best Dogues in the country - this is a great opportunity (without having to pay entry into the Sydney Royal ). We hope to see you there! Please feel free to pass this on to all Molosser enthusiasts who may be interested in the seminar!
  13. How does this work, though? Does the ANKC take notice of each person's voice, or does the ANKC only take notice of the voice of each State Body, with the State Body being made up of all the individual voices? Or is it a matter of both? IE Voice opinion to both the ANKC direct as well as to your State Body? I would hope it's a matter of both. If the breed has a national council, then hopefully that will be a strong stance (as I believe all national councils can't act without motions from the state clubs, and the state clubs can't submit motions without majority votes from their members), and if the breed affected does not have a national council, then the individuals should also voice their concerns. If the ANKC won't listen to National Councils, then they should be bombarded from individuals that are/may be affected by this ruling. Personal opinion - they are suggesting that they are going to alter pedigrees, and if that's the case, then it's all or nothing. Either they recognise overseas titles or they don't - there should be no bias based on the 'type' of title.
  14. This affects so many dogs, why doesn't everyone just put the 'breed' aside, and stand united. I think I read somewhere that about 4,000 dogs were affected by this ruling, therefore it should be a strong voice to the ANKC if everyone just pulls together.
  15. :D I have been reading this thread with interest and one thing that has stood out to me is people complaining about what is done but no one taking active steps towards changing things. It is no good complaining about what the GSDL does unless you are willing to be an active member and lobby for changes. It is possible, even as just a member, to get a motion tabled and voted on at a meeting - you just have to be prepared to put in the work to get the support to get it passed. You can work towards getting that motion then put to the GSDCA, and if you do the work to get the different states in agreement, get it passed. I have been involved in trying to do this in my breed with other issues and it is hard work but entirely doable. My dogs ancestors main achievements - international champion sheepdogs and international driving champions aren't recognised by the ANKC and not printed on his ANKC pedigree but it doesn't really detract from the fact he is descended from these dogs and that his work ethic and ability are a product of breeding from these dogs. Rotti people are doing quite a bit behind the scenes, I just don't want to post it publicly as it's not my place to - and I don't want to give certain orgs the 'heads up' either
  16. Wednesday didnt either.... I guess thats because both of us are active members of our clubs and noone contacted the Rottie or the Dobe club. Plain and simple? Okay, if 'Bruce' is the president of the GSDCA then he didn't know anything about it until a Rotti person called him in regards to the removal of titles. The ANKC has rescinded this directive temporarily and will discuss at their next meeting, the Rotti people have estimated the closing time for agenda items to be around now. By the time you have your October meeting MonElite it may be too late. If you haven't done so already, find out from your National Council to see what you need to do to make them get involved directly. I think that the removal of these titles is going to make the situation worse. People will lie over what titles dogs hold, and it merely hides the fact that a dog is ScH trained (or part thereof). Whether the title in on a pedigree or not, that dog will still have the same training - so what bloody difference does it make? In this twisted logic, does taking a red collar off a dangerous dog make the dog not dangerous? Does taking the Grand Champion title off a dogs pedigree, make that dog not a Grand Champion? Does taking the words (AI) off a pedigree make that dog no longer a product of Artificial Insemination? Just because they don't condone ScH training simply removing the title from the pedigree doesn't suck it out of the dog - it's just ridiculous. Are they going to move to have any ScH trained dogs added to the banned import list? Are they going to ban ScH trained dogs from competing in any ANKC sanctioned events? How far will it go? On a side note regarding the VIC dangerous dog legislation - how did the GSD ScH trained dogs get exemption? Did the VIC legislators get a hat and put various breeds in it and then whichever one they plucked out would be exempt or was there actually a discussion that involved the GSD Club of VIC? Or did the GSDCA get involved? - just if anyone knows.
  17. Well said wednesday. This thread is turning into a GSDCA bashing episode. That's exactly what I was trying to avoid. It's not about individual clubs, this affects many members of the ANKC, and it's no use trying to point fingers now, it will achieve nothing.
  18. Incorrect statement. The GSDCA President immediately contacted the other Clubs including the Rotti Club...... that is a fact and not a fancy thought. In fact the proposal for a united front came from the GSDCA President himself. I was the RCNSW secretary for a while, and after that - still a member, and I'm a member of a few discussion groups and it seems bazaar to me that none of it was brought up until someone heard that they were erasing titles?!?! Can you please tell me which club the GSDCA president contacted so that I can bring this to the attention of that club and enquire why it wasn't divulged to the members (PM is fine).
  19. That's old ground..... been there and done that with that particular issue but the fact that the GSDCV did this proves that there were no blast of trumpets or hoop la bands...just decisive action on their part. Would the other breed clubs if they had adopted the same tactic in seeking the exemption from desexing and the wearing of muzzles and fluoro collars at VCA sanctioned events, made sure that it was inclusive to all breeds involved with SchH /IPO? Doubt it. I don't approve of what occurred last year either but it's water under the bridge and the GSDCV cannot be held accountable for the inaction of the other Breed Clubs. The fact that you may not be aware of what your Breed Club is doing with regard to the removal of all SchH /IPO titles from registered Pedigrees is a communication problem within your own Breed Club and not the GSDCA. The Rotti clubs were not aware of any of this as far as I know. The first the Rotti clubs were aware of any of this was the decision to remove the titles, and the first thing that people suggested was contacting the other BREEDS involved to also join in to a united front by all the breeds affected. Which is what I would hope the GSD people would have done, which they obviously didn't. This may have well been because they didn't KNOW that other breeds were affected, but now that they do, I would hope that Dobes, Rotti's, Belgian clubs etc, would have their support. Personally I think this is altering the registered pedigrees of imported dogs, and if this is the case, then what is to stop the ANKC to stop recognising ALL overseas titles, including championship titles of other countries, international champ titles etc. If a title is part of the registration of the dog in the country the dog is being imported from, then it should be included in the registration in Australia - unless the ANKC doesn't want to recognise any overseas titles, and move to the same system as in the US for example - where as people mentioned - they don't recognise any titles because they are not members of the FCI. Edited to add: I wonder when everyone will stop bickering amongst themselves when at the end of the day they all have the same purpose. What is done, is done, and lets just move on to see how we can all come together to rectify this.
  20. Same here SwaY - just this week I found information that a registered breeder is actually a puppy farm and advertising all sorts of x breeds on petlink - I supplied him the evidence, and he removed them. I've also reported this to Dogs NSW and the RSPCA - what I found was disgusting. The fact that Troy removed them is pretty spectacular because as members of dogs NSW they are perfectly entitled to do exactly that and not breach their code of conduct as long as its not with their registered purebred dogs. They are also able to do that and remain within all bounds for the RSPCA. If he has removed them while they still hold dogs NSW registration - Im impressed. Really? I would think it would be against Number 3 of the code of ethics firstly, they are not 'maintaining and/or improving the standard of the Breed and the health, welfare and soundness of their dogs', and also against Number 5 'A Member shall not knowingly permit any of that Member's pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed' it doesn't say 'pedigree or papered or registered' just 'purebred' - and breeding purebred poodle to a purebred maltese to me would be a breach, whether they are papered, main registered, limited registered or not at all?? Surely Dogs NSW would not allow such a loophole? There is also Number 15 - must register all litters bred by them. How can they register cross breeds? This is a blurb from Assoc of Australian Pet breeders website placed there by a QCCC registered breeder who has also joined the puppy farmers association. My partner and I have been breeding dogs for over 16 years,we each have are own breeds and lines of dogs, although we do share our registered prefix for our Dogs QLD registered dogs, my main interests are my pet Bostons and crosses of these, I have only gotten into crosses seriously since the Qantas airline refused to carry the brachycephalic breeds if they are pure bred, they will carry crosses, and we are getting ever more enquiry for these, so I have decided to add a few to my kennel of pure Bostons who may be had on pet registry papers as well, all bitches are desexed weather cross of pure no dog is sold for breeding. All pure bred Bostons are either cleared by parentage or by direct DNA tests of being affected by Hereditary Juvenile Cataracts, crosses cannot be tested, but any we breed ourselves with be bred from clear dogs, to start off this new crossbred venture, some dogs have been purchased who are not from tested stock, but we have been careful to buy from breeders who have been breeding for some generations without many, if any, problems. *speechless*
  21. All I did was send Troy through the evidence, and said I'd leave it to his discretion on whether or not he feels they should be removed (and pointed out they are still registered so would understand if he had to leave them as members - maybe their membership had expired anyway which is why they were removed or something?? I don't know). I didn't demand or insist on anything. And if this person is reinstated then so be it. I only found out through an ad in the trading post that I did a bit more digging about to find out information and basically it opened a can of worms - something that I never expected. I also didn't think it was everyone's 'right' to belong to their state CC - I thought of it more of a club, and if people are doing unethical things, they could be expelled. Call me naive, but I assumed that Dogs NSW would act on something like this. I don't see how Trade Laws apply? If people want to breed whatever they want, they can without membership, but if they breach Dogs NSW COE, then they can be expelled can't they? Why even have a COE if they can't act on it? Why threaten expulsion and suspension if they can't do it? (not being smart - I read through the COE and figured that it was like 'club rules' and the CC could act on breaches which is why I reported this person to begin with - now to find out they can't do anything about it anyway is very surprising to me). If people HAD to be members of Dogs NSW to advertise litters, and then they were restricted, I could understand the whole Trade Laws thing, but no one HAS to be a member to advertise puppies?? You may be right - as although the contact number is the same as their registered prefix contact, this puppy farm is using a different contact name and email address - so probably you are right in the fact they'll just say it's someone else in their household, not the holder of the prefix - but if they are using papered dogs to create the crosses registered to the holder of the prefix - then can DogsNSW do something? As it appears the crosses, are crosses of the breeds they are advertising as being a registered breeder of - they could be breeding the crosses in the seasons that they can't breed the pedigree pups (ie: dogs can't be bred on every season they need to be rested - maybe that's the time they cross them??) I don't care if they're expelled from here, DogsNSW or anywhere else - my concern is that there are hundreds of puppies advertised by this person, and I just want to ensure the dogs are being looked after. If DogsNSW are then comfortable allowing this person to continue doing this, then so be it. The MDBA is not the be all and end all either - you have at least one member I know of that breaches your own COE just by what is on their website (let alone what they are like to talk to personally), but you haven't acted on that either. There will always be people doing unethical things. I think I'll go back to minding my own business and making sure what I do measures up to my own high ethics. Trying to do the right thing and reporting others is just too damn frustrating. Better fill in the gaps here. If any of our members are breaching our code we will and have acted on it. I would appreciate an email or PM explaining who you are speaking of. Will do :D
