Breeding With Bitches Who Have Had A C Section
Sandra777 replied to Andisa's topic in Breeders Community
In this sceanario I would be asking the owners of other closely related bitches and if it doesn't seem to be a common problem, I would try one litter going in with the resolve that if it happened again I would not persist. My foundation bitch was a daughter of a bitch who was very slow whelping (6 hours for 5 pups). My bitch had no of problems with her first litter of 7 but her second and final litter was 5, one DOA after being forcep delivered by the vet. Those were the days The bitch I kept out of the final litter had a litter of 10 first time, 9 the second. The first litter she was fine, 2nd litter she needed oxytocin to get the first pup out then was fine. 3rd litter was 5 and she was living with a vet then who gave her a shot of oxy for each pup but I'm not strictly speaking positive she needed this much (again, I wasn't there, perhaps she did) -

x2 I bought a bitch who was born by caesarian, one litter she had a caesar. Kept a daughter from this litter, 2 caesars (one was elective because she had conceived one pup to frozen semen and we wanted to take no chances with that pup, it died at 3 days anyway ) Kept a daughter from her, 1st litter, caesar. Don't have that family any more. This is what worries me And so it should, honestly. I have had another bitch I bought as a pup but didn't get until she was five (it's complicated  ), she had two litters before I got her, single pup, caesar. Second litter of 5 or 6, delivered fine. Two bitches out of this litter had multiple litters (at least 2 for one and 3 for the other) no caesars AFAIK I bred her when she was almost 6, five pups fine. After a lot of debate bred her again when she was nearly 7, she conceived 11 pups (breed average 4-5), 3 weren't viable, one got stuck, caesar. A bitch out of the first litter I had from her had 3 litters, no problems. A bitch from the 2nd of those three litters had a caesar on her first litter, refused to push (not inertia) 2nd litter when she was nearly 5, 4 pups born fine. Daughter from that 2nd litter one litter at 3, caesar. 1st pup was coming with one front leg back flat against his body, took a lot for the vet to get him unwedged and pull him out backwards through the caesar incision. Daughter from that one litter, one litter at 2, caesar. This litter was said to be inertia, I wasn't there (didn't breed the litter) so don't know Daughter from that one litter, one litter so far not quite 2, no problems. This particular family I have no issues with and would continue with. -

So sorry for your loss

We flew in to Brisbane on the same flight as our dogs 3 years ago and it was very simple - everything there is in the same place. It will take some time after you get through customs yourself before you can get your dog (took us about 90 minutes from landing I think) so plenty of time to get your rental car and get sorted out yourself. All the officials were really great in Brisbane and we had no problems at all, hope they're the same in Adelaide for you :)

So I made a typo SORRY !! Err - I have Staffordshire Bull Terriers. I have problems that my fingers can't spell and I may on occasions call them Staffordshite Bull Terriers or Staffordshire Bill Terriers, but I would have to be on drugs to type english staffy which is what BYB call the breed. Same with CKCS - if you know the breed well enought to breed you SHOULD know the words appear in that order, even if you can't quite get the spelling right every time. Contact her breeder (sounds like the breeder is not the person you bought her from?). They are the first people who should be giving you advice, from the basics right up to guiding you in the choice of stud dog. They will be able to help you get your paperwork in order (which has to be done before she is mated) and will be the people you phone at 2am in a mad panic while waiting outside the vet clinic. Knowing that bitches can have more than 6 months between seasons is an extremely basic thing (this is something I would have thought a VET NURSE would have known ), sounds to me like you lack much of the basic info you need before embarking on breeding your bitch.

Depends a lot on the dog. None of mine have issues with fatty meat but some dogs have pancrease (sp!) issues which means they must have lean. If this was the case chicken carcases mince wouldn't be the best bet because most of the time it's made from the carcases with the fat left on. My understanding is that dogs don't have the same issues with saturated animal fat that humans have. Fat from a healthy animal is an excellant source of nutrients for a carnivore. Weight control is a matter of reducing the food intake - feed the dog less food! If you need to reduce a dogs weight feed it's food in the "whole-est" form possible, lumps of meat rather than minced for example, to make it work for it's food and the longer it takes to eat it the more it will think it's had to eat ;)

I could be wrong and I sincerely apologise if I am, but I believe this is the same poster who thought the Dogs Qld accredited breeder scheme was just the cat's PJ's?

Bail lions. RR were never intended to enter into hand-to-hand combat with lions, just trail and bail.

Having lived with a dog that regularly stripped whole grape vines (15-20 bunches of grapes) in a morning I can assure anyone that's concerned that grapes are not toxic to all dogs. Unfortunately the end result wasn't all that great for the concrete  -
My understanding is that it's the hours of daylight which affect animal hair growth/shedding more than the actual temperature so I've always thought this is why a house dog tends to be more likely to shed constantly.
-
I'd say fairly normal. House dogs tend to shed 366 days per year

I would go for a natural mating over an AI any day of the week. If the dog isn't interested the second time and is an experienced stud dog then it's highly possible the bitch is no longer receptive so you're wasting everyone's time doing an AI. If the dog is inexperienced then it's a whole different ballgame and you would be best off getting hold of an experienced breeder to help out with the mating.

Mine have yet to turn their nose up at anything except iceberg lettuce. Never had a dog that will eat the stuff. Lemons fresh off the tree seem to be popular -

That's what I was implying - it may help you if you have a dog that would be classified under the test but is actually a mix of other breeds. I head there was no DNA profile for Pit Bulls - but since I can't remember where I heard it, it's not particularly valid. There is no DNA test for pitbulls, as samples from ANKC dogs are taken to create the breed DNA profile. However, if you get your pitbull DNA tested, it should come back as SBT being the closest match. Not sure how realiable this is in court. Err - no. It should come back as an American Staffordshire Terrier not as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT) No wonder the politicans are confused  And yet it doesn't. I questioned that as well, however I was told that they usually come back as SBT. This is direct from the creator/director of the leading Canine DNA testing company in Australia. Interesting then that in the Gold Coast case the whole thing went down the loo when genetic evidence showed there was no difference between an Amstaff and an APBT. -

Training A Solid 'stack'

I'd have him checked out by a chiro first - it could be a growth thing or a slight misalignment so he physically can not stand in the position you want him to. -
Why bother? Take the "casserole" ingredients out of the fridge, throw the veges in the blender, put the whole lot in a bowl and feed it to the dog.

A local pet shop had a sign outside for Great Dane pups - price reduced. Some one I know went in (I'm not allowed into pet shops that sell animals :D ) looking for bird stuff and they had two cages of pups - Great Dane pups for $595 and "Staffy" pups for $695. To her the pups appeared to be from the same litter, they were the same size, shape and appearance. The GD pups were fawn, the "Staffy" pups were brindle.

Vaccine Reaction In A Pup. Help Please.
Sandra777 replied to bianca.a's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
there is no need to do kennel cough unless you are going to be boarding the dog. Not quite true - my dogs have caught KC at a dog show so they're not just "at risk" in a boarding situation - but I agree if you mean the only reason to do it would be to satisfy the requirements of boarding kennels. I have never vaccinated a dog for kennel cough and only had the one incident of it. No harm done, but for an elderly or chronically ill dog, perhaps another story. -
See - I just don't think of this as BYB - to me BYB and Puppy Farm is the same thing but the scale is different - people breeding for the money and no other reason.

x2 Ask the person who's paying  If it was my bitch I would have asked for an AI yesterday if the dog was not that keen - probably means it's too late but better a small vet bill than no pups and wondering. ETA: got to the update Still phone the bitch's owner, but in these circs I wouldn't be wanting an AI, but would expect the stud dog owner to have another try tomorrow just in case

Those ears could be Stafford - there's a fair number of pricked eared Staffords around! How tall is he, how much does he weigh. The red with black mask can be Stafford. To me the length and shape of the head screams cross bred. As long as you don't move to Victoria it probably doesn't matter, just hope you didn't pay "pure bred" price for a cross bred pup. Another reason why "papers" do matter

Sorry to hear that Leanne. I know how heart wrenching it is to loose a family, after 30+ years I lost my direct line to my foundation bitch 18 months ago and it still hurts.
