Have frequently kept two from a litter, once kept three. Individual attention is vital but up to about four - five months they have slept together at night but separated during the day, except for play time!

If that is the only defect the pup has - go for it! My foundation bitch had a small UH and I have never had issues with anything down from her (8 generations now), and the number of UH can be counted on one hand, and none big enough to need attention.

Honestly - never even heard of any of those people so couldn't say anything about the books :) (Sorry, yes I have heard of one of them now I have another look) To get decent information you need to get specialist books, not "this is my __________________" fill in the breed and all the information is the same except a couple of pages about the breed standard. I have actually seen a couple of these types of books where they haven't even managed to get the correct breed name in the book so that was pretty funny really. Try ebay UK - The Steve Bradder book is quite good for a newcomer, the Joyce Shorrock/Claire Lee book is also great. For more in depth info about the breed from the show point of view you can't go past the Alan Mitchell book - The Show-Stafford Handbook (The Unwritten Standard Explained) This isn't a book that just goes on about fashionable show points it explains the reason for the basics of the standard.

Never heard a good word said about treks, they leak, are too hot, rust and bits fall off them I've been told. We have an older style Ranger - yep, she's heavy but nothing will kill it :) For me the Davcar's are overkill but I've never heard anything actually wrong with them & they certainly have everything LOL. I lust after an original C-crate 6 berth...

Glad you got her to a vet but sorry to hear it's parvo - sending healing vibes for your baby

Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I'll pass them on. Personally I think they should look for a dog pup but figure it's up to the Pug breeder to assess the situation and do what's best for the family and the pup.

I have Staffords - there's no way I'm pointing them to DOL breeder's listings and saying go for it. :-)

This one already passed on, thanks Anne

Question About Breeders And Waiting Lists
Sandra777 replied to Esky the husky's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't have a waiting list - same as wreck it I tell people who inquire when to call back. I'd email the breeders and make a quick friendly inquiry about the litter. Or phone if you know this is their preferred form of contact. -
The boss is wanting to buy a Pug - could people give me some recommendations for breeders please. Have bombarded him with the health testing message so now want to be able to back it up with some actual help  They have had a Pug before and currently have 2 French Bulldogs (one 4 or 5, the other 1 year old) - both Frenchies are bitches (spayed) They want a fawn and would prefer a bitch. No hassles with random breeding, this is definitely not on the cards. They would look outside the Brisbane area and while they wouldn't be interested in a rescue "oldie" they might consider a younger rescue. Problem as far as rescues go - they definitely want a purebred (he has no time for people who "wreck breeds" - his words!) PM is fine. Thanks!

Answered yes to killed another animal but was seriously considering answering no since I'm talking about birds and vermin not pets, livestock or such like.

I need to know why chocolate mud cake is in the rubbish bin at all

Miniature Dachshund Pup - Questions & Advice
Sandra777 replied to M1keAU's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wouldn't bother about introducing them on neutral ground - IMO that's an adult-adult thing. Puppies don't do territory so really don't pose a threat in this area to an established dog. What you have planned is fine - just let them do things their own way. The moment she comes home is the right time to start training. Even while she's settling in and getting to know her new world you can be teaching her little things - the rules of the house so to speak. If you don't start the way you plan on carrying on it's worse in the long run. Crate, laundry basket - whatever works for you - but I'd be concerned that if she really wants to get out she would be able to jump/scramble/claw her way out of a basket and probably over turn it on herself. Dachshunds are determined little beggars  Breath, relax and enjoy. -
Older dog, sudden personality change - has she had a thorough vet check?

NSW has life time registration across the board - Queensland doesn't although some councils offer multi-year registrations. It honestly makes no difference when you get Hunter neutered - once he looses his male hormones his body will change. It depends on his family history how muscular he was ever going to be though, so you really can't say x is going to cause y :) Snap Jumabaar

Love this vet. Marking and dominance have nothing to do with testicles :)

There's nothing wrong with BARF but do be aware that chopping and changing a pup's food isn't always a great idea. It's not unusual for a pup to go off it's food when it goes to it's new home - nothing to do with it 'not liking' the food it's used to. Be careful not to train your pup to be fussy!

The Woolworths Pet Insurance Advert
Sandra777 replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
Great so after the Coles magazine debarcle woolies do this - going to have to stick with Aldis :-) I really wonder if a lot of advertising people think at all -
I wonder about your multiple uses of "protecting his pack". It's not his job to protect "the pack" - that's the boss' job. Alert barking when an intruder approaches/crosses the perimeter is normal for any dog regardless of it's 'status' - but once the intruder has been welcomed into the territory by the boss all underlings should accept this. I think you may need to work on his perception of his job and your job :)

If I was starving to death absolutely it'd be roast dog for dinner. Don't think 'starving to death' was quite the situation here at the time the guy ate his dog.

x2 Demanding attention is never something to encourage :)

Yes it is allowed. Brilliant idea especially for breeds which tend to have big litters!
