Have you tried approaching a local butcher. Probably someone who runs a small business would be your best bet. My local guy does a Beef pet mince that consists of mostly meat from the head ie- cheek and tongue but, basically it is just all the left over stuff from the carcass. It only has a small percentage of fat as not much fat is contained within the head meat and the dogs go nuts for it. He sells it prepackaged in 1kg blocks for convienence and he has minimal wastage and returns a better profit for it! Oh and the best part is it only cost me $1.40 per Kg.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but the skin colour change is quite normal in a Maltese. In fact, in the show ring they should have the dark pigmentation down their topline where the coat is parted. The pigmentation change is also casued by the sun, I know of Maltese showie's who purposely let the dogs sunbake to encourage the change in skin tone.

Well I have just got news this morning that my 2year old DDB potentially has osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease in the knee of his right hind leg. This diagnosis is from my very trusted vet. We cannot rule out Cruciate yet as my boy is very good at disguising his pain and was tensing all of his muscles so the vet couldn't get a good range of movement. Although the grinding in the joint could be felt easily. However I do have a chiro that I couldn't be without and my boy will be out to get his opinion tonight. As all the vet can do at this stage is offer 3 weeks of Metacam and take things from there at least in the interim my chiro can releave any other pressure that might be from his spine being out and offer further advice perhaps. People can be for or against chiro's but I believe they have their worth and have proven very valuable at times. I would not be with out both and I will let you know how we get on.

Oh my god I never knew that either, I defrost in the microwave all the time because I'm just plain old disorganised! I have a lot of problems with tummy bugs maybe this could be a cause??????? I hope the puppy is OK.

We had a dog treated there for a rare cancer, they are just wonderful we could not fault their service and care towards our dog and to us. They are also some of the most knowledgible and highly skilled vets around. Best of luck with her op.

I have continually read the updates and found myself in tears. I never knew quite what to write as I have been lost for words. I would love nothing more than to donate for a star in Page's honour, her family can look to the star knowing she is shining down on them brightly and they can feel close to her once more. Life and health is so valuable but the life of a child is precious. She has reminded me not to take life, family or friends for granted I'm sure she is basking in the warmth of the angels now and being 'poodled' forever.

You would probably be looking medium breed although Bullies are stocky and are heavy in bone and muscle mass. Large breed products are generally aimed towards mastiff and Dane type breeds. Nutro is a great product!!

Consider going to a super premium food brand. Its expensive but well worth it. there is a few different brands to consider and the price varies slightly between them too. So hopefully you can find something that suits your budget. Look into:- Eukanuba Nutro Advance Eagle Pack Royal Canin Nutrience Try a search on best dry food on the search engine at the bottom of the page and you find heaps of info. I like Kobe, that's a very cool name. Good idea to wait the right name will just stick!! And as Kristie has mentioned great idea to have a vet lined up make an appointment for a check up within the first week of getting him that way you can work out a flea and worming program that suits you and the dog best. The breeder should also give you a guide to this. You can then be assured that he is in the best condition as he should be. Good luck Tash

Well somethings might depend on the type of pup. But, generally you will need... Water bowl Food Bowl Bedding Crate? For sleeping in at night/when you go out and makes toilet training a lot easier. Do a search on crates at the bottom of the page and you will come up with heaps of info. Collar and Lead (good idea to take this with you when you pick the pup up) FOOD! the correct dry biscuit according to the breed requirements plus either mince or some form of wet food. Breeder should recommend what you need Grooming equipment if required. Ensure all fencing is in good condition so your pup can't squeeze himself out or jump over or dig under!! Toys, Toys, Toys......stuffed toys, chew toys, balls and one of the best and the cheapest would have to be the plastic Coke bottle just remove the label, lid and the plastic ring below the lid first. Decide where your pup will sleep at night and have it set up before he/she comes home, do not give in to whinging through the night or they'll end up in bed with you and you'll never get them out!!!! Maybe its the birds. Generally the birds in my area start around about that time of the morning just befor the sun starts to come up. As for how to stop it I'm not sure, the only thing I could think of is perhaps a squirt bottle and give her a spray of water when she starts? Tash

My pup did what 'Blacklabrador' has explained. She only kept it up on the first day home as she had a big day leaving her litter mates, being on a plane and have strange faces at the other end. We just gave her reassurance and put her in her crate that night where she could feel safe and cosy.

Gee what an experience,I hope he recovers from his sedative. I have a dog (Japanese Chin) and she has a similar problem with her skin. I have spent a lot of money at Vets each year where they give her a quartisone injection, an antihistamine and tell me to bath her is Malaseb. And to tell you the truth it has never done one bit of good. The injections will give her some relief for about 2 weeks and then we start the cycle all over again. She has a flea allergy. Her skin flakes off and she gets that agitated that she will rub the hair off her back and behind until she is completely bald. I have chosen over the last six months to take a more natural approach. I use non pasturised Apple Cider Vinegar. I put a teaspoon in her drinking water and I put it directly onto her skin on the irrated areas. Whatever is in this stuff it gives her enough relief to stop scratching and give herself time to heal. The following day I will apply "Rudducks' Cow Udder Cream. Sounds rediculous but it works, Cow udder cream has a very large content of Zinc the mineral we all need in our bodies to heal. You can use cow udder cream on yourself too. It's great for scratches and sores. It is very good for senstive skins. You will also need to be regular with a flea treatment such as advantix or frontline to keep the problem at bay or it will be a never ending cycle. Honestly the natural remedies have healed the problem where as the trip to the vets just kept it a bay. You must only use a non pasturised AppleCyder Vinegar that you get from a health food store and any good produce place should carry cow udder cream. If you put Apple Cyder Vinegar into the search at the bottom of the page it should bring up a fantastic thread on it and also links to website of info on all its uses. My female Dogue de Bordeaux pup humps my 20 month old male DDB who is desexed. She came home at just over 8 weeks old and she started only a couple of hours after she was introduced to him. She is very dominant in a lot of ways so it was her way of trying to come in a rule the roost!! She has also been marking her territory by peeing on all my other dogs beds except her own!!. i wouldn't worry to much it is a dominance thing and they will sort it out.

I use Cheerio's. They are cheap and my pup loves them. I'm getting her ready for the show ring and she'll do anything for a cheerio as she is not real fussed on liver treats. You can make one cheerio go a long way! Tash

My vote is for the Japanese Chin (but hey i'm biased). The chin is actually very cat like in alot of ways. They are fantastic little companions and an apartment would be heaps of space for them. Or a Japanese spitz absolutely adorable!!
