I have started as Facebook group called- STOLEN - Dogue De Bordeaux pup. It's an open group so please all join and spread the word. Even if she is not returned I am just urging whom ever has her to seek veterinary care for her immediately.

Hi all, please understand that the vet surgery involved is just as devastated and shocked as we are. The pup was in a kennel run with a small portion (approx 2ft) of heavy duty welded mesh section that faced to the outside at the rear of the clinic. This mesh is bolted to the frame work of the kennel run, it has been pulled and bent upwards enough to create a small opening for the puppy to be pulled through. Having investigated the area myself you would need a fair bit of strength to do so. This was a brazen act by some lowlife. This was not some security bungle or mix up by the clinic.

Weight and crate size/dimensions play an important factor in shipping costs. To give you a guideline a friend is bringing in a large breed dog from the USA, estimated weight of dog at 58-60kg ( so XL crate) the cheapest quote has come in at $8 500. (thats quotes from multiple Aust & US companies for comparison) On top of shipping, Q, purchase price there will also be costs for bloodwork, paperwork, vet fees etc estimation somewhere between $500-$1000 Boarding costs really depend on who and where......some have been fortunate that breeders run the pup on for next to nothing whilst like myself and others run-on/boarding costs can run into a few thousand. Having a large breed we always estimate importation costs from start to finish in the ballpark of $15 000.

What Silly Things Is Your Dog/dogs Scared Of?

Our old Keeshond was scared of frogs! We lived in a two storey house and if there was a frog on the steps she would refuse to use the stairs until you removed the offending frog! -
Mastiffs... Torn Between Two Breeds
tashnchief replied to firebladejr's topic in General Dog Discussion
My suggestion to you would be to try and meet all three breeds. They all have similarities in a lot of areas and each have their differences which can be the very reason you like or dislike the breed. I own DDB's but I am very familiar with the other two breeds. I would personally choose my DDB's over the two others everyday of the week, the Boerboel would be my second choice. Colours would be one of the most obvious differences. Whilst the DDB does come in a black mask the majority is still the red face where as the Bullmastiff always has the black mask. DDB should never be brindle and will only ever come in a form of red/fawn. Boerboel's generally are black mask with red/fawn, they can also be brindle also the colour 'irish' is becoming quite prevalent. ( very beautiful mixture of fawn, white and grey) Temperament wise I think the DDB is the softest of the 3. Boerboel definitely has the strongest temperament and whilst they can make exceptional family pets they need a firm and experienced hand. The Bullmastiff's I've had contact with tend to be all round friendly with great guarding instinct. The DDB can quite often be a little aloof and timid with strangers however loyal guardians of their family and great instinctual guarders. All 3 breeds are pretty much prone to the same types of health issues. DDB's do drool more than the others they also tend to have a naturally oily coat than the BM. Boerboels have been described as BM on steriods! The biggest thing to be mindful of once you have made your choice is finding a reputable breeder. BM is probably the cheapest of the 3 and the Boerboel being the most expensive. There are plenty of unscrupulous breeders out there ( particularly in the DDB at the moment). So do you homework and research the breed and the breeder. -
I agree with alotanewfs, France and Belgium are by far two of the most expensive places to ship a dog out of. We brought 2 dogs over from France however once they were ready to leave we applied for a special dispensation (sorted by our agent Jetpets) and drove them across to Amsterdam and they flew from there. In comparison we saved over half our initial freight quote in Paris by doing it this way. We found our greatest expense during the whole process was boarding fees whilst they did their Q time over there. Again, more of an expensive exercise as the breeder was restricted by law on how many dogs they could keep so they couldn't run them on for us and we had them cared for at a specialised Q boarding facility.....expensive but very worth it in the long run.

I have a pup here at the moment who doesn't yet have a proper name. Nicknamed in the early days as 'christmas' as we had run out of ribbon colours and all that we had was leftover Christmas ribbon! Problem is now she knows her nickname and comes to it when called. I think it's stuck! Will be interesting to call out 'christmas' in public!!! Especially as she is going to grow into a big slobbery Dogue De Bordeaux :)

The price depends on if you are wanting chilled or frozen semen transported. Chilled semen would involve costs of vet fees to the collecting vet - approx $100 ( depending on the vet but I would say $100 as a minimum cost for a collection), the vet will pack the semen in a small esky box ( styrofoam) and it can be easily freighted using Australia Air Express or TOLL etc. Freight costs are based on weight, you would need to contact the freight company directly for a quote but I couldn't imagine it being anymore than $80. From memory I have paid around $50 from SA to QLD. It can also be delivered door to door or drop off and collect from the airport. Frozen semen needs to be shipped in a tank, smaller version of a typical frozen semen storage tank. These tanks are quite a bit heavier at around 12-15kg. I have had tanks go back and forth between SA and QLD at a cost of around $350 using TOLL freight. The facility where the frozen semen is normally stored should be able to arrange your transport requirements. There are also used to be a couple of companies that transport a lot by road,(sorry don't know the names) which may be an option if needing to move a frozen semen tank and it's not time critical. Chilled semen obviously has a shorter lifespan for travel purposes so you want to get it from point A to point B as quickly as possible. jr inoz - imsemination costs can be how long is a piece of string, depends on your vet really. Up here in QLD prices can vary between $600 to $1600 for a surgical insemination on a large breed. I see you are in SA, contact Dr Chris Girling at Noah's Crossing Lewiston he will definitely be able to answer all of your questions.

Biloela is kind of remote being a small mining town. Their best bet would be try a top notch large animal clinic in Rockhampton or alternatively contact a specialist centre in Brisbane. Dr Brad Gavaghan is a specialist cardiologist, he operates out of the Veterinary Specialist Services - Underwood, contact 07 3841 7011. He also visits other clinics and interstate clinics on certain days throughout the month.

There is quite a few vets around Brisbane that are now doing them. Gerry King at Greencross Moreton/Redbank plains has been doing them for a few years for me. Contact no. 07 3814 3333 Other breeders I know have had them done at vets on the Northside of Brisbane and Sunshine Coast as well. Prices have ranged from $150 -$250.

I have a six berth Davcar and I love it Great people to deal with and excellent finish and workmanship. I was one of the many who have had issues with FX. However I believe that if you can pick up one of the older makes from FX they are still pretty good. From those that I know who were lucky enough to actually get their trailer from FX over the past 2-3yrs there has been endless probs and the finish wasn't real great. I was at a show on the weekend and saw a trailer the same style from a different company - Rowville Horse Floats, it appeared to be a really nice trailer also.

Contact Cryogenes. I imported semen from Spain 2 yrs ago, none of the company's I enquired with at the time had ever brought anything through from there and Cryogenes were the only ones willing to give it a go. It was a bit of an ordeal dealing with the Spanish authorities and it was a learning experience along the way however Cryogenes were great. I also found a few very useful contacts and information in Spain that were beneficial to myself and Cryogenes. So I would really recommend them as the most experienced ( although limited) with bringing stuff through from Spain. I also know that Cryogenes have been the agent in shipping equine semen from Spain as well.

Have you tried someone local like Danny from Jet Pets???? I had to make arrangements last year to move dogs between countries ( a little more simple than yours - France to Netherlands) I found Danny fantastic in co-ordinating everything and far cheaper than me dealing directly with transport companies in the dogs country of origin. I have also moved dogs between Denmark and Belguim and the difference in flight prices was crazy. We had quotes from the Belguim end and quotes from the Danish end, the differences ranged in excess of 500 Euro.

As far as I know it was thawed together.

I had a successful dual sire litter 2yrs ago. Both sires frozen semen, I can't give you percentages off the top of my head but one was brilliant post thaw and the other was just above average. 11 puppies in total - split was 6/4 of the 10 pups that were DNA tested. Good luck, I hope you get puppies and even better if it's a genetic split

Top 10 Surgically Removed From Pets
tashnchief replied to dogbesotted's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Something a little different for removal, my dad's Samoyed ate 2 x 50 cent coins!!!!! Of course they got lodged in the small intestine and had to be surgically removed. I have DDB's and a Pointer, I can always tell which poo belongs to the Pointer. His is always colourful!!!!!! -
I have mixed feelings, as someone who lives with a Pointer my inital reaction was NO WAY! However, upon consideration it would be a MAYBE....the reason being, I never let my Pointer stay outside while I am not at home, he is always locked up in the house which can be for many hours whilst I am at work. There has only been the odd occasions when I know that I might be gone all day that he is left out but he is still locked up in a kennel or puppy run. WHY - because he would literally run all day long to the point of exhaustion and beyond! We do live on acreage though so he does have ample running and free play time throughout the day. My biggest concern would be that Pointer's birdy instinct is strong, super strong, the fact that they have a balcony that the dog could spend time on would freak me out!!! There is no way my Pointer would ever be let on a balcony, I swear he would jump right off it without a second thought when he is preoccupied with birdie's.

I have had a bitch absorb 3 times now....and yes she has issues with prog levels throughout the pregnancy. After the first 2 occasions, I spoke with Phil Thomas the 'Repo Guru' here in QLD as pyo and any other type of uterine damage was a concern for me. Phil confirmed that they are at no greater risk of Pyo from reabsorbing a litter. Generally, prog levels of 40nmol or below is entering the danger zone. However, every bitch is different and I have heard of bitches that have been supplemented after prog dropping below 20nmol and gone on to have successful litters. My bitch on the other hand drops below 60nmol and we know we are in for trouble, it really depends on how quickly the progesterone is dropping.

Just returned home from Show Training tonight at Durack! ( @ the CCCQ grounds, King Ave Durack ) Basically, it's every Thursday night 6:30-7:30pm. Cost is $3 per dog. As far as I'm aware pups have to be a minimum of 12 wks. You just have to turn up on the night

Hi Showmummy, We have also been experiencing fertility issues within our bloodlines and the breed in general. I too have had friends overseas suggest Canine Herpes as the cause and Herpes vaccines. I will be very interested in any information or input you receive here. I do know the vaccine is not available in Aust. We have ruled out many other causes and theories with our girls, the Canine Herpes virus is something that has always sat in the back of my mind as a lot of imports are used in our breed and could very well be carriers.....this of course is just my lay persons opinion

I have imported semen from Spain...which turned out to be a nightmare! However, along the way I did find a very helpful vet in Madrid, she is American and very, very experienced in shipping dogs world wide. I will PM you her details.
