  1. Why, because they refuse to contribute to more unregistered non health tested litters giving registered breeders a bad name, not to mention dogs that may end up in pain?
  2. It is the pups from these types of matings that lead the public to believe that purebred dogs are genetic messes. They'll go round saying I had them tested, they are purebred and they still have health problems. Yet the correct testing was probably not done, the OP has said as much herself. Either don't bother testing or do it right, don't pretend to be legit if you aren't.
  3. From memory, the problems presented to dogs and wolves during the experiments are unsolvable no matter how many times they try. Our pets don't have the same situation, lots of the time they can work through a problem using various behaviours, so you won't see them turning back to look for help.
  4. That's my best buddy, I got him into dingos. But they spelled his name wrong, Bradley isn't a hard name!
  5. If I treated the apes I've worked with like a hare I'd be in serious trouble. You might have learned about the general process of training that you didn't know from working with a hare, but once that is known to someone you really need to treat each species as a separate entity. The mechanics of training a scared prey animal is very different from that of a domestic animal and different again from most of the wild animals in captive situations. You need to work at species level and then deal with individual personality, taking into account motivation, reinforcers, previous history and conditioning goals, which are vastly different between species.
  6. The wild cats that our domestic cats developed from aren't social animals, so that is why they appear to do what they want, it's not that they are being arrogant as people generally believe, they just aren't wired to cooperate with a social partner.
  7. A snippet posted in isolation doesn't help the reader, how would anyone who doesn't know about Bob Bailey's Chicken Camps know what he/she is referring to when using the word trainer. Training other animals has taught me flexibility and to treat each species as a completely different, not a variation of the previous species.
  8. Whoever wrote that obviously doesn't know chickens He/she should go out and tell my two hand raised chickens they aren't bonded to me and while he/she is at it tell them they should be flying, rather than running or walking away from things that don't please them
  9. That's a relief. Keep me in mind if help is ever needed over my way.
  10. I have only heard about laser dentals being used on dogs that were GAed. What is it about this procedure IR that is different to the instrument and laser dentals done now? You need to have the dog knocked out completely for both of those. Anything that makes these procedures faster for the dog is great
  11. There is a huge difference between a dog having the teeth looked at and holding perfectly still for a long procedure, it would be a rare dog that could hold still enough without sedation. I'm really curious about how they do this, who is the vet in Melbourne?
  12. hmm....ok i will accept that but it should have been made clear. look my only issue is why was the horse moved when it could have been easily checked out at the place it had been living for 7 months. if this questions was answered then i would be happy My thoughts as well and seems to be the biggest issue, why not send a vet to assess and take blood, surely that would have been a much better option for the horse and the rspca.
  13. I guess we can be grateful Brandy wasn't sold to the doggers like some of the other rspca rescue horses have been.
  14. The federal government should administer this law, isn't it obvious what the solution should be, why does it have to be said? I can't think of any other area where law is enforced by a charity, it should never have been set up this way. The salvos don't go around shaking down drug addicts and carting them off to jail do they. Amnesty don't deal with illegal immigrants either. Of course the government is reluctant to take this role, it will be expensive to set up but doesn't mean it isn't their responsibility and should have been all along.
  15. You're funny there is no judicial review process for the rspca, you couldn't tell anyone what you thought it was last time you were asked, care to share this time? Yes, the Judicial Review Act Qld. Next step after appeal to the Minister & that is found usatisfactory. And now I'll put you back on ignore. Awww, you really do love me mita, you keep taking me off ignore ;) If that works then why haven't any of the solicitors involved in any of the cases been able to make progress. Do you know that because the rspca isn't a government organisation they can't be investigated by the usual government review? I don't think you are aware, otherwise why would educated solicitors not be able to do what you suggest, do you think they are all dumdums? It's not that I love you or hate you, jdavis. I find you're emotionally negative. And, in fact, you approach most things from a platform of needy emotion. An example, you've been given the process & you didn't go and read it. If you did, you'd find a definition in the Qld process, that fits. I'm a needy But you didn't answer my question, why do you think that solicitors working for defendants haven't been able to make the appeal process you mention work for them? So far I haven't done a law degree and thus haven't been called on to defend anybody, so I haven't tried this. BUT, those who have done a law degree presumably are smart enough to know what you know about the process, so why can't they use it, if it works as you say it does for rspca investigations?

  17. You're funny ;) there is no judicial review process for the rspca, you couldn't tell anyone what you thought it was last time you were asked, care to share this time? So after there was the statement was made by your friend that there was poor customer service why did the situation get worse if he was on top of it? The horse was removed and died, why do you think they didn't get a vet to go to the property and check the horse considering the foster carer's vet gave the horse a clean bill of health? Why do you think they needed three weeks to give a horse a health check?
  18. Again, I disagree. He certainly seems to either have no control over the cowboys in the outfit, has no idea what they are doing, or simply chooses to pay lip service to those that question. Exactly, he was aware of the situation and it got worse under his control. Just because someone is nice to you doesn't mean they are capable at their job mita.
  19. Are the vets that hopeless at doing a vet check that they required the horse to be held for three weeks off the property? There is no excuse for that, it doesn't actually take three weeks to assess a horse's health, there was something else going on. Since you can examine a horse and take bloods at the property it lives on then the only other reason for removing the horse was spite for going to the papers.
  20. Jebus As I was reading the story I had a feeling she would die while in their care, so many seem to do so. Mark Townsend doesn't seem to be very fair minded or competent, this happened after he was aware of the story. There was no good reason this mare was removed and held for three weeks, she could have been examined and left on the property. What sort of organisation are they that they don't know anything about the animals they are supposed to be responsible for. All horse people know colic can be caused by stress and to stress a horse who is susceptible is cruel and disgusting.
  21. The horse people think the same as the dog people, so they can be added to the disgruntled groups.
  22. Self awareness in the scientific literature has a very narrow meaning, so far only the great apes have shown self awareness, even the gibbons don't show it. There is some interesting anecdotal evidence with a dolphin, and a study with elephants but that has huge methodological issues and has been dismissed.
  23. Dogs have never shown MSR before, what are you doing that is different? To have MSR you need the precursor of secondary representation, which no one has also found in dogs. Dog can learn to use mirrors as a tool, is this what you are investigating?
