Rspca Proposals For A Mandatory Code For Puppy Farmers.
Are You Serious Jo replied to minky's topic in In The News
One of the scariest things I've heard so far. Disgusting. Otherwise, this code will pave the way for large wholesale puppy farms and kill most registered breeders. They'll make a killing because it will be the only place to get a puppy, they will easily afford the licenses because they'll be raking it in. -
The bouncing sounds like more of an anticipatory behaviour rather than a stereotypy. When you look at pacing around an enclosure it isn't just going from A to B to feed etc, it has to be doing a circuit more than once using the same route. Any behaviour that is done continuously that doesn't led to something happening can be a stereotypy. A chained dog might do circles for example.
-
Stereotypic behaviour is different to what the general public think of when they hear the word. In animal behaviour it is defined as a repetitive behaviour that serves no obvious function. Some behaviours can arise through superstitious conditioning, that is something good happens when they are incidentally doing some a bit odd, so it becomes associated with a reward.

Study May Be Of Interest To Breeders
Are You Serious Jo replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Doesn't have to be video, any enriched environment builds good neural networks in infants of any species. Anything that allows manipulation of objects and some degree of control. -
To be honest, I don't even see why it has to be a last resort before being PTS. By then your neighbours hate you, you dislike your dog and most would have passed the problem on. The dog doesn't know it isn't loud, it continues to yap it just doesn't drive every insane. Dog barking is the number one complaint to council and among neighbours I think, yet you are made out to be a criminal if you debark or want to. Should be done more often IMO.

Yes, dogs have no concept of personal space and I am frequently yelling move to the one who darts back and forth in front of me and the backwards kick to the ones who try to trip me up from behind. I have resorted to having a rake to swing around me when they get carried away first thing, it's like I'm fricken invisible, they never learn to watch out for me!
-
Hey, there's others here who are doing the same thing - just pop into the Aussie thread! Ack!
-
So despite knowing everything you do from your time as a vet nurse and pet shop employee and your time on DOL (I've seen your posts) you deliberately created a litter of unregistered and not health tested puppies? The only xrays that count are those assessed by vets qualified to hip and elbow score BTW. You did this knowing all you do, just asking for those that think you were clueless.

I'm not flogging her, I just have no interest in giving advice. You're a better woman than me steve, my patience cup ran out long ago
-
...and this makes me sick link to stuff that shouldn't happen
-
So basically, you are agreeing with me. Fact is the OP has this great resource with all sorts of info but chose a certain path. She is a vet nurse and should know the procedure for health testing and some basic idea on rescue through her work. She doesn't come across like a country bumpkin. I'd rather not make it easier for people who chose to have BYB litters, it doesn't tend to discourage them.
-
Well hopefully in the last four years she has been a member she has read enough to know that her unregistered puppies should be desexed before rehoming.
-
It's funny, the personal attacks and name calling always seems to come from those claiming others are nasty.
-
My posts are more pointed towards those who claim everyone is a major beotch unless they softly pat the BYBer on the hand and say look at your gorgeous puppies please don't hate us. I have no issue with anyone trying to educate, my only issue is with people telling me how to post. I've gotten tired over the years, someone with more energy can try to convince stubborn BYBers why it is not a good idea.
-
Good for you, that is YOUR choice, not mine.
-
You need an open mind though for information to be able to go in and be effective. I'm not saying people shouldn't try to educate, but I'm over trying to change the minds of people who WON'T do things differently. Others can go for their lives though.
-
I've learned over the years when to take the time to educate and when it is a waste of time as the person isn't interested. So why do you think puppy farmers still do it, after all, surely people have tried to educate them as well? Doesn't matter where the dog comes from, only takes too much loving and they'll become a barrel. Theres a difference between a puppy farmer, dogs shoved in tiny cages and bred like cattle. And a person who love their dog, perhaps doesn't understand everything in regards to hip and elbow scores. Bred their bitch once to a purebred male and won't breed her again. Then what gave you the idea that she wants to be a registered breeder, because even you have now said she said she won't be breeding again. Proved my point.
-
The owner of the pups said she isn't a registered breeder so she is a back yard breeder. Knock yourselves out and educate her all you like, just don't dictate to others how they post on a purebred dog forum.

So you regularly assist dobe BYBers then?
-
How do you know what she wants? Have you had some personal conversation where she told you her deepest desires? No. Because you have no idea who this person is. So, Why doesn't someone list reasons to become registered, and maybe create another loving registered breeder in the future, rather than just making someone else hate purebred dog owners. She basically said so.
-
She doesn't want to become a registered breeder, it is naive to think you can change everyone's mind by just talking to them.
-
Then read between the lines, if most people are posting a certain way then 99% of the time there is a good reason. people can also pick banned members quickly and scammers, you need to trust the old timers on here, their instincts are good. Gold lab was the easy clue on this one, but there were other things in the posts that said BYBer. If your passion was under threat you'd be a bit sensitive too, it is apathy that is killing the dog world, don't be surprised if some people still want to fight to save it.

But I never thought about id bands before and I thought I was pretty ready to register. So it I was and had my first litter and asked this question I would have been crucified and all over a trivial thing. I know she is a BYB but at the start of the thread no one knew and the replys were still harsh. Newbies who are open to being told where they have gone wrong and indicate that that are ready to change their ways are never crucified. Those who just come here looking for better ways to raise their BYB litters won't find so much help. This one was obvious it was an unregistered litter, nobody pointed it out but you can tell from the first post usually, that is why she isn't getting met with open arms.
