Whats The Best Medicated Dog Wash?
Are You Serious Jo replied to Becs_Staffy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I thought you might do something like an infusion. I'm making human calendula soap anyway, but I planned on infusing my oils with it then using it for the soap. I make a plain goats milk soap that is very mild, so my plan is to just use the calendula oil and no fragrance or colours in it. But I can see how your tea method would be good when you just want the solution to stay on and keep it simple. -

More details erny, I'm about to use my calendula in soap I'm making, so if you know what works well I'll give that a trial run. -
I'd like to see the rspca offer discount desexing, so if that is what this is about them ok. But it's a bit here or there, more details needed.

Why Do Everyone Hate The Rspca?

I've tried to lodge complaints under my real name but on no rspca website anywhere could I find a way to do so. So you are wrong -
Why Do Everyone Hate The Rspca?
Are You Serious Jo replied to Leelaa17's topic in General Dog Discussion
I haven't posted in this thread but have previously in others about my experiences with the rspca and it is all first hand. When I was a kid my most precious possession was my blue rspca membership badge. Unfortunately, when I became active in animal welfare in my teens I saw a side of them that wasn't right. I've actually never had any luck at getting a case of cruelty investigated even though I have only reported as a last resort. Not just that, but issues that I've had first hand with the shelter in Fairfield. Then of course are the things on public record such as their "show" and the persecution of certain people and groups. -

Story On The Morning Show
Are You Serious Jo replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm not referring to the actual act being portrayed, but the circumstances surrounding the production. But I guess I'm going off topic and this picture isn't porn anyway it's just a nude. -

Don't worry, once the first mug buys the picture and distributes it all over the net they won't be making much money HA, I know some rational and mentally healthy women make their living through porn, but an awful lot are forced to do so to pay for habits, a lot are exploited in the sex industry. I also don't think women willingly putting themselves into degrading positions is actually empowering, and those behind producing it are laughing all the way to the bank. This chick though is just another dumbo who was probably told it would be good for her career to do this. -
Dogs With Sensitive Skin Goats Milk Soap
Are You Serious Jo replied to woodbyne's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think it is coal tar?, the same stuff that is in pinetarsol is also called pine tar, which I'm going to try out. Pine tar is what the soapers use when making that type of dog soap. -

To be honest, a lot of things added to cold process soap don't survive the saponification process (when the oil and lye react to create soap) so a lot of things are used for label appeal. You also cannot make any medicinal claims so beware of products that say they cure or treat certain conditions. You can't add additives in large quantities or they go off as well. -

Dogs With Sensitive Skin Goats Milk Soap

I've just started making cold process goats milk soap and want to do a range for dogs and cats. What types other than plain would people be interested in? I plan on doing a pine tar (pinetarsol) and also tea tree as well as plain. -
More Questions About My Foster Boy - Huey!

These are the sort of people who do it for the glory, because if they really cared about dogs they'd give a s**t about the other dogs they put at serious risk as well. -

Ava Draft Policy On Importation
Are You Serious Jo replied to bulldogz4eva's topic in General Dog Discussion
I know all vets aren't like this, but some love BYBers because they breed and this means money. Don't underestimate the level of ignorance among vets about purebreds. I've seen first hand how a cross bred will come in with a problem and need surgery such as lux patella, hips etc, but a purebred came in with the same aliment and the first thing they did was blame the breed. -

I don't get it, why does the AVA have an interest in this issue? -
If people are willing to buy something then someone will also be willing to sell it. It's called business. Another good example of how medicine has vastly improved lives, leprosy. Pre-treatment people were condemned to life on an island shunned by their community. Turns out it can be cured quite easily and if you get it now it is no big deal. The whole conventional medicine is evil is promoted by those who have an agenda, to sell their products. If it is so effective they wouldn't need to resort to attacking conventional medicine to sell it. Alternative medicine is also rightly called complementary medicine, which is where I think it fits. Funny how people will put their trust in a car, built on the same scientific principles that are used to determine if a drug is effective. If anything you should be more distrustful of some alternative treatments because their effect on the body isn't actually known and they aren't regulated. Some people just fall for the word natural and it covers up any logical thought processes.

Really, never Have you heard of this thing called antibiotics, maybe you should look them up Your diabetes would be mild and a case of being able to be controlled by diet alone. If someone had a different type where they couldn't produce insulin and tried to manage it using diet alone they would quickly die. That is what I take issue with (people who push "natural" medicine so hard) they take one anecdote and apply it to the world. You are just lucky that so far you haven't had a life threatening condition develop. If your methods are so great why do you have to try to knock down other people's way of life? Better living through chemistry I say

Anyway, there is a new alternative medicine just been released, it's a drug called CHARLIE SHEEN!!!

;) Love Tim "Do you know what they call alternative medicine that has been proved to work...medicine."

I had a couple of wrinklies house sit for me when I went to Canberra for three months. They enjoyed the holiday, got to explore the town and live rent free. I didn't pay them but paid all the bills so they only had to pay for their food. It can work out really well, look at the house sitter sites for more info.

Which proves my point, homeopathy is about faith, not medicine. You can't prove to me that God or homeopathy exists, but I can prove to you that my thyroid medicine works.
-
You can't claim that because with whatever happened to you wasn't controlled and tested. Any number of things could have saved your life. That is why we never make claims in science unless we test under strict conditions. I'm not saying that there aren't any alternative medicines that are useful, I'm not. BUT, homeopathy actually comes from the realm of faith, that is what the originator of the practice stated. When you were hitting that vial of water you actually had to invoke some spiritual thingie or other :D But by all means drink your poo water (don't forget water has a memory and animals poo in water ) but don't make claims that might endanger others. Homeopathy isn't even near being a natural remedy because you cannot detect anything in the water. If I go eat a ginger biscuit when not feeling well I know there is ginger in it! I eat salt when my BP is down and I can prove the salt is really salt.

For every paper you post from a low impact journal claiming it works I can find a review from a higher impact journal finding that it doesn't. This one was chosen at random, I could find a more recent one if I put in more effort. Ernst, E. (2002), A systematic review of systematic reviews of homeopathy. British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 54: 577–582. Abstract Homeopathy remains one of the most controversial subjects in therapeutics. This article is an attempt to clarify its effectiveness based on recent systematic reviews. Electronic databases were searched for systematic reviews/meta-analysis on the subject. Seventeen articles fulfilled the inclusion/exclusion criteria. Six of them related to re-analyses of one landmark meta-analysis. Collectively they implied that the overall positive result of this meta-analysis is not supported by a critical analysis of the data. Eleven independent systematic reviews were located. Collectively they failed to provide strong evidence in favour of homeopathy. In particular, there was no condition which responds convincingly better to homeopathic treatment than to placebo or other control interventions. Similarly, there was no homeopathic remedy that was demonstrated to yield clinical effects that are convincingly different from placebo. It is concluded that the best clinical evidence for homeopathy available to date does not warrant positive recommendations for its use in clinical practice.

Have you got the entire paper and do you know how to read scientific papers? Just because something is published doesn't mean the study was a good one. There might be real issues with the methods that mean that the study is flawed. I'll have a look around and see if anyone has reviewed that paper. Only anecdotal evidence. If homeopathy could be proved effective then large companies would be investing and Randy would be 1 million dollars poorer. How come no one can yet claim the prize? Chemists are allowed to sell it because it won't be labeled as a medicine. If you look at homeopathic websites you'll also see them being very careful about what they claim. If your child had meningitis would you prefer a homeopathic remedy or conventional medicine? Surely if homeopathy works you'd have no hesitation in doing so right?
