Kennel Club Dog Photographer Of The Year
Are You Serious Jo replied to teekay's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I think you are right, the edges of the puddle don't look right either so I think it's been heavily shopped. -
I'm going to come visit your tiny ponies when I get back to QLD next year, I have a big car
-
Stop hogging all the tiny ponies!!

Dilutes are found in working dogs so best to do some reading before you start breeding. Plenty of info on the net.
-
Aren't you a breeder mixeduppup, I thought you bred working kelpies?
-
Local shows are a lot less lenient but there'll probably be still be some entries from people who produce really good shots. The only one I can see that is competition level is the mirror portrait one. The first landscape is nice, but it's an album shot and would probably get put aside on first look over. Landscape needs good light and great composition and jump out at you. But if you are just having fun with it then put in what you like.

Are you entering for fun or are you really trying to win? Do you want an honest answer? I'm not going to say anything unless you really want to hear it.

Sticky Dog Syndrome
Are You Serious Jo replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I found those QLD breeders. Wonder if they can be ANKC registered or they just haven't bothered. I'm lucky with my coolie, he has a good amount of eye but doesn't get sticky. It's one reason I wasn't keen on BCs for herding, if you get a sticky dog they can be a lot harder to work with. -

Ahh, I see, probably brought in to create hunting dogs. Have you got any pictures up anywhere, I would love to see her. -

Is it really a catahoula cross, I didn't think we had any here and if we did the numbers would be so small there wouldn't be any crosses? -
Dogs Feel The Full Spectrum Of Human Emotions?
Are You Serious Jo replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just have to answer this bit, they do exist right now. You won't see the studies in mainstream media because it's chipping away and only the big stuff gets reported, but there is a huge amount of work being done that the public has no clue about. So we do have ways to answer a lot of these questions at the moment and it is being done. -
Dogs Feel The Full Spectrum Of Human Emotions?

There are ways to test cognitive abilities Jed, comparative psychology is one of the most exciting areas because it really can give us answers to animals abilities. It's about problem solving, you can reliably test if you are careful about how you set up the experiments. We use human infants as benchmarks and then design experiments that take into account the differences between the infants and the subject and see how they perform. The thing to remember is not to get disappointed if you learn that dogs don't have all those special feelings, but to enjoy them for the amazing ability to co-exist with us by their ability to learn and use cues, so much that they appear to feel emotions they don't have. -
Dogs Feel The Full Spectrum Of Human Emotions?

If by brainwave activity they mean some very subtle cues by the owner then it can happen. But it really is only cuing. They really need to rewrite their spiel because either they are talking about cues and doing it badly or they are trying to claim some metaphysical bull. The left brain ability thing is a bit left field. I'd avoid them because of the atrocious way they present themselves  -
Dogs Feel The Full Spectrum Of Human Emotions?

I used to answer these types of questions but haven't for a a while. I don't have the energy to really go into it but the general gist is no. To be able to feel emotions that require you to feel a particular something about what someone thinks you have to understand that they can think (theory of mind). To have theory of mind you need to have secondary representation, that is to be able to imagine something in your mind while looking at something else entirely. You also need self awareness. So far the only animals to show self awareness are great apes (including us) and possibly dolphins. Some work has been done on elephants but there are methodological flaws so it needs replicating. I know this because I spent a lot of time researching it when I was was doing research projects in this area on dogs. I stopped answering these threads because people would argue black and blue that scientists were wrong because of one anecdote about their dog that could easily be explained by cuing  I am rusty on latest dog cognitive research though, but believe me, if we found reliable evidence of the foundations needed for the above emotions it would be a nature paper and we'd all know it. -
"the Tail End" - S B S Insight Tonight
Are You Serious Jo replied to Leema's topic in General Dog Discussion
I never said there was an over population, but if all dog owners were responsible there would be very few dogs surrendered to pounds or not collected as a stray from the pound. Why not address the thing that leads to the problem rather than try to come up with a never ending packet of band aids. -

But the real problem is the public who put the dogs there in the first place -
Murray Valley Kennel Club Cancelled?
Are You Serious Jo replied to Are You Serious Jo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Monarto, what's it doing there  I've been going off the word doc that lists dates and it didn't have venue, so I assumed it was at SACA. Aust Post stuffed up my redirection so I'm missing the issue of the mag that had all the details. Thanks, that's cleared that up -
Murray Valley Kennel Club Cancelled?
Are You Serious Jo replied to Are You Serious Jo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wasn't showing so don't want to bother the secretary, just seems odd as it isn't hot. I'm not on ozshow yet, will have to organise that. Anywhere else cancellations might be announced? -
Does anyone know what happened, was supposed to be on today but has been cancelled and nothing on the dogsSA site?

Now you can really try out the Brenizer photos

Natural Rearing Border Collie Breeder?
Are You Serious Jo replied to creek817's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm pretty comfortable with my judgement that she is wrong. I'll also point out that what she wants to do is illegal as far as I know. If she decided she doesn't want to take something that's fine, she only hurts herself. But her actions affect another living being that has no choice. There's also the other dogs that will be exposed to any diseases she will spread around. There are lots of things that society doesn't condone, try going to court and using it's my opinion as a defence, see how far it gets you. Some things are wrong. -
Natural Rearing Border Collie Breeder?

But she will be killing her puppy if she doesn't vaccinate and takes it out. Do you really think she would have changed her mind on the vacc issue? You can usually tell pretty quickly if a noob is open to take in information and I'd bet my left knacker she wouldn't budge. Some people just aren't open to it, they want to believe what they read on the net so badly that they won't listen to anyone. Don't forget she didn't come here for advice but to find a breeder. The next nutter that won't vaccinate their puppy should get the same. It would be irresponsible to hear that and not tell it like it is. I can't remember reading one person here who thinks that dogs shouldn't have their first set of vacs, what you do after that is up to you.
