Rules Re Housing Of Dogs In Victoria
Are You Serious Jo replied to BDJ's topic in General Dog Discussion
How much is the permit? The DA would be the killer, that is what will take out the small breeders. -
Rules Re Housing Of Dogs In Victoria

So it doesn't matter if you have less than 10 dogs you still have to comply with council requirements and build kennels, even if you have say two breeding bitches? What is the point of the dogsVic exemption if council just ping you anyway? -
I think my old shih tzu is developing pancreatitis so he is on raw using a roo meat base. He is doing well on it.

Lecture On Dingos And Domestication
Are You Serious Jo replied to Are You Serious Jo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Then his work here is almost done  But he really is a great guy and awesome scientist so I'd love for more people to learn about his work and how amazing dingos are. He just got a new grant for next year so keep an eye out for some more dingo behaviour work. -
Lecture On Dingos And Domestication

Yeah, Stirling was a remarkable boy :D I was going to expand our dog work to look at object permanence in dingos in my old group but ended up giving it over to Brad for his PhD. He is a great advocate for dingo conservation -
My friend is giving an e-lecture on the history of dingos and humans. I know a lot of people here are interested in dingos so thought I'd give the link for those who haven't heard about it. http://www.e-trainingfordogs.com/2012/11/dingoes-the-missing-link-between-wolves-and-domestic-dogs/

This is a massive leap forward in terms of feral animal management, baits are horrible. This is a very humane solution and I hope it's a very successful program. I'll put that ref in endnote so it's there if I need it

Skye Terrier In Blacktown Pound
Are You Serious Jo replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
There were a few different people saying they were going to try to get him so it's not hard to imagine that everyone thought it was covered so didn't put an EOI in the second they found out. -
Skye Terrier In Blacktown Pound
Are You Serious Jo replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Well since this was the first time the Skye had to deal with the specifics of Blacktown pound I think they can be forgiven for not knowing everything about how it works. They can't win, they try to rescue one of their breed, not even the actual breeder and they still get caned for not having knowledge on a pound they've never dealt with. -
That gels with what I had in my mind but I didn't have any refs for it.

I don't think you know what I mean about not believing things on the net. You did post based on emotion and for me, your posts have not challenged my long held beliefs. I have come to my opinions after a lot of reading and experience. My beliefs are based on evidence and scientific validity because my science degree is zoology and wildlife biology. I support animal welfare, not animal rights.

No one wants to see the foxes killed but spreading false information isn't helpful to anyone. I would think that you would be one to advocate for truth as misinformation is what started BSL in the first place. If she was posting things about bull breeds that wasn't true you'd be the first to jump in and correct her.

Skye Terrier In Blacktown Pound
Are You Serious Jo replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think you guys did do a good job of trying to help this boy. -
Oops, CO, chemistry was a long long time ago

Just saying I have read on the internet is not the same as providing the source and it being reputable. Until you can give a reference or two that states immense pain from low level CO2 exposure then it isn't true to me I'm afraid. People can write whatever they like on the internet, doesn't make it true. For example, I am so awesome it would blow your socks off. I said it, so it must be true

We are talking about a rural pound aren't we, or at least a pound, how many worry about breed specific homes -

If the breeders are the first in line for the EOI maybe the pound considers them rescue and they can only take him if there is no public interest? -
They started with CO2 then switched to Zyklon B (cyanide). By controlling feral species humans are trying to undo the damage done by introducing them in the first place. I have spoken to people who would like us to stop dealing with the feral problem and just leave it all alone, all because they can't stand the thought of any animal dying. It's a very selfish ideal.
