I've been watching this thread too, sad for May but glad she finally is at peace. -
Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
Are You Serious Jo replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
People wonder why some cringe when they hear no kill, well this is why. I always get a laugh when Mark starts on about how Lola desexes, vaccinates etc. That only happened a few years ago because she was forced to do it by outing them here. Before that she didn't and used lack of money as an excuse. In an area where not many people desex and disease is prevalent wouldn't you think you'd make sure that you had those covered before you took in so many. She didn't give a toss about desexing because she just wanted them alive, even if it meant sending more breeders out. I'm basically the anti-christ according to them because of that thread a few years ago and I did so much damage (eyerollyman here). If people didn't stick their neck out no one would have a clue how bad some of these places are. I only wish I could expose more so all the people who blindly support rescue could know the truth. They have no problem rehoming aggressive dogs if they bite adults. One told me that dogs like that one Mucko, who bites men generally go to lesbians. That's right, lesbians never have male visitors and they just hole up in their houses with their dog who never gets exposed to men. If they do go to single women who want a dog that doesn't like men they ask them to think about what happens if circumstances change, so what, they take the dog anyway and a biter from rescue is out there -
I'll go check google scholar to see if any papers are in the vet literature about noses and melanoma. Tralee, cancer doesn't spring up overnight, it takes years. How old is Lumen, how long as he been a working dog? Of course they won't see melanoma straight away, it doesn't work like that.

That is pretty much what I have read about them too. You have to be able to be flexible with each dog and know what to look for to get them into the best environment for them.

Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter

Don't worry I'm not taking their side, just not assuming anything Moorook says is truth till it's proven. My views on the rspca are very dim. -

You are right, I thought it might have been the other one because it sounded like people were responding to the one where the rspca supposedly said it was fun. -

Ok, I think the one up is the one at Moorook, don't think the Waikerie one is? -

So there are two videos? I know there is one that I think was the meeting at Waikerie but didn't know about the other one. Will be very interesting to see what's on there. -

Yes, have to agree, the advantage lies with the rspca. In which case I'd be a hell of a lot more professional in how I handled this situation. Having your "spokesperson" call them filthy scum publicly and telling lies is not wise. -

They constantly call for lots of people to urgently get there if they think the rspca is coming and have been told they'll be "removed" why would they do what Moorook wants, which is all on their terms. If I was an inspector with an ongoing cruelty case and had been threatened I wouldn't turn up without a warrant and reinforcements either. I'd also film everything. -

The thing that bothers me about yesterday was that they knew the rspca didn't cut the locks, but they still posted numerous FB posts saying they did. I'm not ever going to excuse any rspca actions but it was a clear attempt to mislead people. The "person" that informed Mark that the rspca was there would also have had the correct information about the locks, so it shows they lie or they post information they don't even know is correct. There was no post saying sorry we made a mistake, the locks weren't cut, just a few comments here and there. Also, would the local police really have let them through without a current warrant or not letting her see it with all this scrutiny. -
A myth busting section would be good to have as well, address the common misconceptions out there.

How about a Best Puppy In Show? Aust CH Lurgenglare Fratta was BPIS at the working dog show in Lancefield under Judge Mr R Lake (Can) at her very first dog show. Best of all her breeder was there to bepart of it and my dear friend Sandi came up for the day out. and a photo of Fratta and her sheeps. Good stuff

Can you see why I am confused I ask if they guard puppies or each other and you laugh and say WTF. So I ask what they guard and you say ummm, puppies, like I'm dense  When they are at the property what do they guard?
-
Two properties/places actually. LGD's are livestock. Who said they must specifically and exclusively guard chooks, goats, or sheep. Dogs can guard and protect dogs. There were four adult dogs on the Nimbin property. Nobody came in, whether there were pups on the ground or not. So here is your chance to set me straight. What do your dogs guard? Is the above correct and they guard each other and/or puppies? Do they have traditional stock they guard?
-
So they guard each other?
-
I have to add that I think LGDs can be managed in the burbs if you do it the right way. I am just trying to understand the reasoning put forward by tralee. If there is something I'm not getting he can easily point it out.
-
Others have asked the same questions, it's completely on topic.
-
You always clam up when people ask you to explain why you think the way you do. How is it bigotry to ask you how the dogs bond to stock if they don't live with stock. I actually can't see any stock in those pictures so do they just guard the property when you visit? How does success in the show ring equate with working ability, that is totally on topic.
-
Well I live on a property that has a LGD in training, does that count? How do your dogs bond to the stock if they don't live there? It's a genuine question. Another genuine question, what does a BIS ribbon have to do with working ability? How many other rarer breeds have a BIS under their belt. I think you place way too much emphasis on show ring success and I love showing! What does success in the show ring have to do with working ability, I have no idea how you think that works.
-
Showing also needs to be demystified for those that think it's all that matters and those who think it's an elite waste of time.
-
It looks like a working farm property to me. What do you mean not working dogs? A LGD's not livestock? Visiting a farm isn't the same as living on the farm and being a permanent guardian. I visited movie world but that doesn't make me Angelina Jollie.
-
I know it's tricky, but if someone asked you how to identify a good LGD breeder what would you tell them to look for? That is what I was thinking is needed, the same info you'd tell anyone who was looking to get into the breed. It's going to be different for every discipline and this is where experienced people can make a difference.
-
I do understand that there has been too much importance in some people's minds about showing so I see where everyone is coming from. I think someone from each discipline (or group) could provide a good explanation for their activity so the general public could read about them and see their importance. I think this could be a really positive thing, there could finally be one resource that provided a good overview of all dog activities and a list of reputable breeders as well as all health information.
-
What if showing had a symbol that was equal in weight to one for herding, agility, guard work, tracking, retrieving etc?
