Thanks Grumpette... She is ok, seems alot better today than yesterday. one of the dogs was sick at the back door during the middle of the night but considering that i was asleep i'm not sure if it was Kiesha or Diesel this is the second time that this has happened and i am annoyed that i didn't see who it was..... It is possible that it was Diesel as he has had a very weak stomach since his operation. I'm not sure if the tubes or medication irritated his tummy during the surgery or after with the meds that he was on It is also possible that it was Kiesha as the meds that she is on can cause Nausea I have been feeding her at night and in the morning and she gets her tablet at night so it could have been her... I will be talking to the vet tomorrow in the morning and i will find out what he suggests for her... The only thing that i have been suggested to get at this stage is some Maxalon and some Tramadol, I have also read on the Rottweiler Health site that the Tramadol is one of the best pain drugs for Osteosarcoma along with the Feldene that she is already taking...

The first thing that we noticed was a slight abnormality in Kiesha's head..... We really couldn't tell that it was a lump due to the location but it was painfull to touch. In the end she wouldn't even let you touch her head and when you would try and pat her she would move her head away from your hand so that you could pat her somewhere else.... The lump was and still is very hard and is growing you can see the difference in these pics taken over the last few months.... The first taken in Sept 2007, you can not even tell that there is anything there and then the other was taken this month.... So you can see within the last 4 months it has gone from nothing to an almost tennis ball size on top of her head...

Rottweiler Health Issues And Nutrition
kiahzen replied to kiahzen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Dru, considering that we can't start a new topic i see no reason to put information on Diet and Exercise in here.... Even though George may not be sick you still need to get the information to help him and hopefully someone can help him beat those thunder thighs -
yep that makes sense... She has only started the whole lounge thing within the last 3 months so i guess this is about when it all started.... Staffyluv thankyou for your kind words.. Can i ask what you changed in Ollie's diet, I have been thinking about that alot today and i think that i will change what she eats just not sure what i should change....
-
Yeah she keeps sniffing under the front door so i think that she feels content sitting there as she would be able to smell if someone is outside.... Anne how is Sophie today? Kiesha had a bad night last night and was very restless, I really do think that now is the time to up the pain meds so i will call the vet.. Not sure if i should call him tomorrow or wait till first thing Tue morning... I could get some now but i'm sure that the emergency hospital will charge me a consult fee and 3x what the drugs are worth and she seems to be happy now that she has had her evening tablet... Do you think that 3/4's Feldene is still enough or would more not do anything anyway? Is Sophie still on 3/4's?
-
Yeah that makes sense i can understand that and sounds like what is going on with her.... One thing that she has constantly done recently is lay right near the front door and she hides in beind the lounge Not sure why but maybe this has something to do with her hearing, I'm pretty sure that is is not any were near as good as it used to be.....
-
I would say within the last 2 weeks... She will constantly bark for no reason she has never done this before but sometimes i think that she is barking as she doesn't know what is going on around her.... When we tell her to be quiet she keeps going till we look at her and then she seems to stop...
-
It's ok oonga i know that you mean well and you have the best intentions.... It isn't an ear infection and i had a good look in her ears today and it must just either be the pain or that the cancer is getting into her ear canal or her sinus. I have been thinking lately that she has been going a little deaf as she doesn't really respond anymore and she will sit there and bark for no apparent reason.... Oh well i'm sure that the vet will give her more meds...
-
Yeah i was thinking the same thing cavNrott OH Well i will have another talk to the vet and see what he recommends...
-
Sorry to hear that Tyson is gone R'n'B.. I was hoping that he had more time but unfortunately not I was talking to a friend the other day and she came up to see me at work as she had heard that Kiesha was sick... She recently lost her Nephew to Cancer and as soon as i said what was wrong with Kiesha she said don't worry Benny is there and he will make sure that he looks after her when she gets there.... cavNrott... Kiesha is going ok today, her ears are starting to bother her though and she has been scratching them and shaking her head all day... Do you know what i can do to stop her from doing this?

Rottweiler Health Issues And Nutrition

Thanks for those links Mr R & NR I actually stumbled on them this morning as i was looking for more stuff on cancer -
Considering that we have this Sub forum i thought that we might as well put it to good use while it is here.. Its great to talk about life and things in general but i think that we need to be providing information to people on the breed and considering that there are a few terminally ill Rotts out there then i though that i would take this opportunity for people to give advice on Cancer, Hereditary disease, Treatment options, medications and Diet options for sick Rottweilers... Here is a great site that offers so much information on the Rottweiler take the time to read through... http://www.rottweilerhealth.org/ Kiesha may have been diagnosed with a Osteosarcoma in a rare location and there may be nothing that we can do for her but if we can help and try and find information to show others then there may be something that will help someone else....
-
It's amazing at how much her head shape has changed over the last few weeks and it is really noticeable now... I was looking at pics taken in sept and the ones that i posted last night and the difference is amazing... I dont think that i have found another dog that has had Osteosarcoma in the same place as Kiesha so it is hard to know what will happen to her in the comming weeks.. All i can tell is that she is starting to get quite weak in the back and she has a bit more trouble getting on and off the lounge.. She looks quite shiny in photos but not in real life, she is very dull and grey looking... She is more quiet than she used to be and looks so sad sometimes..

ZnQ... How is Zed today? Has his wee improved, i hope that he is not getting worse.....
-
Thanks oonga... I guess that there seem to be so many sick Rotts at the moment and not everyone can find the updates in the normal thread so this way they can go to one place and not have to hunt through pages of Chatter to find it...
-
Goodluck today Dru, will be thinking of you and George. Fingers crossed that it is nothing nasty and they can operate to remove it. Our Kiesha is also going in on Friday for her tests to confirm what type of sarcoma she has on her head and if we are going to be able to operate on her

Try and distract him when he is doing it.. Don't tell him off but make a loud noise to stop him from doing it... If he is getting too bad then when he starts to do it lock him away from her in a crate or outside on his own.. You could even put him on a lead when he is around her so that he is monitered closely.. Might also be worth looking at getting him desexed if he is not for show/breeding.... Our male is always walking around with his nose up our desexed girls bum... That is just a boy thing.. we just tell him now to leave her and he will walk away, with such a young pup though he wouldn't really understand until you teach him....
-
It is like a house that you can put the dog into... Its like a safe place for them, most dogs love it and even sleep in there without being told to go in there.. Here are some pics for you to see.... I don't know what i did before i descovered them, its a great time out spot for pups to go....

I feed Advance Growth Large Breeds to my 2 Rotts and think that it is a great food... I'm not sure how you buy it but i usually get the 15kg bag as it lasts longer and works out much cheeper... If you change to the large breed then you can change 100% to that in a matter of days.. Buy a bag of the large breed when you have about a weeks supply or just under left of the other and then mix in a cup of the large breed and just gradually mix in more and more every day until you have changed it over... As they are the same brand you shouldn't really have too many issues in changing over as the ingredients are very similar... Not sure on the toilet issue that you are having... I feed the Advance with raw beef mince also and give other lamb neck bones and chicken frames throughout the week... So long as he doesn't have an upset tummy too often then i think it is normal that sometimes it is runny and others it isn't... I don't always have solid poo to pick up and don't often have runny ones only usually when they have had a lamb neck as it has the bone in there and i find that this sometimes makes them a little runny... Goodluck with the puppy it sounds like you are doing a great job with him....

Rest in Peace little girl.... Now you have your wings be free little Page... "God looked around his Garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain. And knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw your path was difficult, he closed you tired eyes, He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly. When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain, We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again. You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide, You live on through your children, you're always by our side. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you on the day God called you home" (Journey of Hearts A Healing Place in CyberSpace)

I Feel So Horrible...final Update
kiahzen replied to k8star's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanx for that information cavnrott... But i didn't post any names, places etc etc for this to get back to anyone in particular so i dont see that there is any harm done in posting here no one even knows who or where this person is and neither do I.... I'm not saying it is the right or ethical or unethical thing to do but i was just telling them that this is also a human drug... You never know they might even know someone that gets it prescribed and doesn't need the leftover tablets... I always get 25 tablets and only ever use 7 and then need a new script the next time as they have usually gone out of date.... So i always have alot sitting around with no use..... Sorry if i have offended you with posting this story.... Sorry for the spelling.... -
Hmmmm....... So he might get there yet.... I thought that they usually teach themself to ask to go and its not something that i have to try and do as i wouldnt know where to start.... He was very slow at the toilet training so i guess that this might take a little longer with him to catch on....

I Feel So Horrible...final Update
kiahzen replied to k8star's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So sorry to hear about your girl.. she has such a happy smile... Predisilone is a steroid and it can be prescribed by a human doctor also.... I'm currently on this for my asthma ($10 for 25 tablets)... Look at how much the vet will charge you for the same drug as you might be able to get is cheeper on a prescription if your Dr is kind enough to help..... A friend of mine was talking to their Dr about their dog and said that it was sick and that the vet prescribed a certain drug for her ..... $45 later from the vet for this drug... The Dr was kind enough to give them a prescription for the same medicine as it was also used for humans and they only paid $8...... -
I was wondering does a puppy always end up asking to go to the toilet..... Our 6 yo Rotty has always asked to go to the toilet.... she will come in and star at you and then wlak back a little and just sort of huff at you until you come and let her out... If you are in bed she nudges you or makes a noise to wake you up so that you know that she needs to go out.... My question is really in relation to my 4 mo rotty male puppy... He is great going to the toilet when he wants to when the back door is open and it is 95% of the time When the door is closed (usually my OH closes it without thinking) he usually now just goes on the rug near the back door so i can see he has really tried to go to the right place but hasn't been able to get out there.... Do they learn to eventually ask to go out there or is our older dog just really good....?? What makes them start to ask to go out for a wee
-
Not sure what to do but keep persisting with him.. Our puppy has been really hard to train and he is now 16 weeks old and i think that he is only just starting to get it... He never had an issue with the poo except when he startes for some strange reason doing them inside about three weeks ago... Three days in a row he pooped inside then that was it... Another one of the DOL members suggested that with my puppy going in his crate to feed him in there so he gets to know that its like a reward to go in there.... The other thing is where is he weeing... Is it near were he gets fed?? If it is then he might be claiming the area as his... Diesel would always wee on the kitchen floor and then when we moved his feeding to the crate he would wee near there (but not inside once he was getting fed in there just usually outside the door)... He now gets fed outside in his crate and since then there have been no accidents inside....
