Pain In Her Hips / Back Legs
kiahzen replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It is possible that Roma has pinched or pulled something from having the zoomies or something similar while you were out. Exactly what happened you will probably never know but i would be guessing that Roma has something out in the back, pulled muscle or a pinched nerve. We came home once to our 6 year old Rotty and she was all strange in her rear and trembling, she would also yelp if we touched her. Took her to the vet and they gave anti inflams and said rest. We then took her to have some manipulation and she had 2 pinched nerves in her spine, after her little massage she was running around like normal again, a little check up a few days later and she was fine. We still gave her the ant inflams though to help with the pain that was caused and the swelling due to the injury. I'm not sure if there is a Myotherapist, chiro or someone similar in the area that you can get to also check her out, considering that it sounds sudden and not over a period of time i would be thinking that it isn't arthritis. We see a greyhound guy and he is awesome with the dogs and they love him as he always makes them feel better. Good luck and i hope that she is feeling better soon. -
If it is only partially torn then your best bet would be to rest her for a good few weeks, by this i mean in a crate and confined.. Only going out on lead for walks, This will help the partial tear to repair itself and not be so painful. It may hold like this but being a younger dog i would assume that it will completely tear at some stage and the surgery will be needed. Considering her age i would be saving up now for the surgery and getting the weight off her and trying to maintain her muscle mass as after the surgery she will lose a lot of muscle and you want the other leg to be as good as it can be so that you can try and prevent the other leg going too. The surgery will be needed to maintain joint health and to stop the arthritis from getting worse in the joint. The best form of exercise at the moment would be swimming, it is low impact and will not put any pressure on the knee. Also if she needs to lose weight then cut her food back as it is going to be hard to do too much exercise with a partial torn cruciate. She may never completely tear the cruciate but with a luxating patella i guess that the whole leg isn't as strong as it could be. Our Rotty tore his cruciate and it did heal and hold for approx 2 or 3 months till it completely tore, you can tell when it has happened as they are in pain and wont hold any weight on the leg. The vet can tell that a dog has done its cruciate from the Drawer sign, basically they manipulate the knee and it will have movement. We didn't know that our boy had a partial tear as the 3 or 4 vets that he went to couldn't tell, we kept him crated and gave him anti inflammatory along with glucosamine and Vit C powder to try and maintain joint health. You can also give joint guard. He did stop limping for about 2 or 3 months until he started to limp and show signs of pain again, this is when we took him to a surgeon for a second opinion and he had TWLO to repair (basically replacing the ligament with a titanium plate). This option you will be looking at around $2500 to $4000 for the operation, however you can get the older method (De Angelis) this is around $700 to $1500 depending on the vet. After either of these operations you will need to keep her confined to a crate for at least 8 to 12 weeks and only lead walking to the toilet only during this time is permitted.

Glad to hear that Jaida is doing well on the herbal treatment... You can always see what she is like and take each day as it comes with giving her the Tramadol, she may still have days where she does need it so it is good to have it on hand. Having her being a little drowsy is better than having her in pain.... Lets hope that the herb continue to help her and hopefully she doesn't have too much pain to need the tramadol... Thanks for asking about us here, we are ok but miss Kiesha every day and wished that she was still here but not much we can do about that..... cavNrott... Glad to hear that Sophie was up for a game of ball with you.... I hope that she is feeling better tomorrow...

cavNrott... I'm sure that Sophie loves her car rides. I hope that she is feeling ok today and that her tests go ok... We used to take Kiesha for car rides when she was having a bad day or was too tired to walk, to Kiesha a car ride was just as good if not better than a walk.... So many more smells and she would hand her head out the window and let the wind blow through her hair.....

His name is Dr Rod Straw http://www.animalcancercare.com.au/ Canine Cancer Diet.. http://www.dogcancer.com.au/diet.html I have some other links for Holistic treatment and some more info on chemo i just have to find it and i will send it to you... If you decide to go with Chemo or any other metromic protocol make sure that you confirm with the oncologist if the Holistic medications are ok to give with any of the drugs as the Holistic medication and cancer drugs can counteract each other.... If only there was an option for me with Kiesha... Unfortunately with the Osteo it is in the bone and hers was on her skull so nothing that we would have done would have given her quality due to the location and the aggression.... Lets hope that the treatment options work for your little fella... Hugs to you both..

I'm really sorry to hear your sad news.... I can understand where you are comming from hearing the shock news that your dog has cancer... We have only just lost our 6 y.o Rotty to Osteosarcoma There is a really great cancer specialist in QLD.. When we heard of our girl and after we had her x-ray results my OH called him and spoke with him over the phone as we are in SA to see what he recommended.. We don't really have any canine cancer specialists here in SA so we didn't really know what to do... You should PM Troy and ask if your thread can be moved to the paliative care section so that we can keep track of the progress and how you are going.. I have loads of Links on Canine Cancer and information if you need anything i can give you all the links that i have found... There is loads of information out there... Goodluck and hugs to you and your cute little dog, thanks for sharing your pics....

It has been a week now and life seems to be getting back on track, Kiesha returned home yesterday and she is sitting up on the entertainment unit now and i feel a lot better that she is here with us.
