Gosh, that painting of Leo is stunning. He was one of my favourite DOL dogs.

I found that the zoom groom doesn't really penetrate down to the undercoat on a double coated dog so found it pretty useless. I use a comb and brush, easy peasy. Recently got a comb with rotating teeth which is really nice; glides through the coat. When the dogs are dropping a lot of coat I alternate between wider and finer toothed combs to get the dead coat out.

Yes but this is where different breeding and jobs come into effect. I can barely imagine a LSG like an OES having the go, go, go mentality of say a kelpie or BC for instance. But, OES are a herding breed, not a livestock guardian breed (I assume that's what you meant by LSG).

Sarge is 9.5 and I noticed a few months ago that he's getting some white hairs on his ears. People still think he's a puppy though!

Can you call a vet and ask? I have found the emergency vets nearby very happy to answer questions via phone after my normal vet clinic have closed for the day. I'd call a vet, if they say it isn't an emergency I'd ask if using eye drops would help and get the name of a specific brand, then I'd reassess in the morning or call my regular vet if I was still unsure and follow his advice.

That is weird. Disappointing because he could have had a husky-savvy home.

Any update on the older husky? Did your friends take him?

You might already know, Yonjuro, but the refuge have an old husky in at the moment too. Scroll down to "Fen".

Hey tibbie_tabbie, do you work for the refuge? I saw on their FB that they rehomed a corgi this week but I never saw her/him go on the website. Do you know the story with that one? We have fostered corgis for them before and asked to be notified if any come in needing foster and so I can spread the word among corgi people but they never do so I just stalk the website instead. Hi Mim, I just vollie there on weekends, walking the dogs and sometimes training new vollies. I didnt see or hear about a corgi, but it may have been a case of the dog only being there a few hours - we had a massive week and weekend with 34 (much needed!) adoptions! It may be worth emailing the foster coordinator, in case personnel have changed and messages not been passed on. So many dogs come in and out not all of them make it onto the website or facebook, especially the easier ones to rehome - no time to photo or write up before they are already home. I saw on fb there was a corgi meet up this weekend, did you know about it? ???? Good to know, thanks TT! Yeah we were at the meet :)

I find hot spots take longer to heal using Ilium Neocort and they heal much faster when treated in a way that allows them to dry out (a cream doesn't do this). Wash gently (but wipe away any gunk) with peroxide and then dab on betadine. I treat every hot spot this way now and they heal very nicely; you don't even need to shave the fur. If it doesn't show progress in the next few days I'd go to the vet for a steroid shot (pretty sure that's what they use, but it's been a very long time since I saw a vet for a hot spot) so it heals faster because it must be bothering your dog.

My Pembroke Corgi boy seeks out Labradors to play with; they have a really compatible playing style and he loves bigger dogs. Pembrokes are playful, smart, loving and energetic but also happy to laze about. They shed but having a Lab you're probably used to having hair everywhere.

Omg so scary! What area of WA is this?
-
HE IS SO CUTE!! Please post many photos when he arrives! Will you be showing him or becoming a breeder?
-
Yeah when I saw him most recently he had no issues with two beagles who came to the park. Tigger was busy running laps with about 5 other dogs when I was there so I only got pats when he took a break to lie down in the sandpit

I also love greys and joke about kidnapping my friend's rescue grey all the time :) I have met Tigger and he is sooooo lovely. I had no idea he was the grey who had been attacked by beagles! I'd heard about it but no specifics.

You can report Gumtree ads selling puppies under 8 weeks as it's against their rules. Puppies also have to be microchipped and vaccinated to be advertised.

The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17
Mim replied to Yonjuro's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow, the grass at the park has really suffered! I haven't been there in ages. -
One of mine does this when he has neck pain. He's had it a few times. His neck muscles become sore (likely from playing) and when he wakes up and moves to get up he cries. Acupuncture and some painkillers and he's right as rain :) So I'd recommend looking into muscle pain. How is her movement? Any hunching? Is she raising her head high or keeping it low? Does she find it difficult to get comfortable?

Thank you a lot for your prompt reply! Corgi is the best breed indeed. We are really in love with them. I saw the Nireno kennels ad. The puppies they have look really awesome. The only problem I have with getting a dog from interstate is that we will not be able to meet the puppy beforehand. I think that your puppy should choose you as well. He will spend all his lifetime with us... What do you think? Did you have a chance to meet your dogs before you took them home? I did contact Purdella. I talked to Howard a few times. He is a really nice person. He and his wife usually breed their puppies for the show ring and not always have puppies for pets left. He said that he would contact me should they have any puppies left. Fingers crossed they will. I believe that I have contacted Dygae before as well and they were not planning on having litters somewhere soon. We are sooo ready for lots of hair everywhere!:) We can't wait our dog to join our family! Thank you once again for the reply! It is really helpful! No, a puppy does not need to choose you. Corgi puppies love everyone so it wouldn't be a sign if one ran up to you or anything. When you find a good breeder, they are the best ones to choose the most suitable puppy for you; they have raised the litter and know them best.

Congratulations on choosing one of the best breeds (I currently have 3)! Are you open to getting a dog from interstate? Currently Nireno kennels have puppies available and they breed very nice dogs. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/member.asp?name=NIRENO You can scroll down and click on the box that says "Puppies" to read their puppy ad. They also have a website. Caron is very knowledgeable and passionate about the breed. She also has lots of youtube videos so you can see how she raises her dogs and what they are like. Puppies cope fine with flying and Caron is experienced in sending pups around Australia and internationally. If you do not want to get a pup interstate then I would recommend contacting Dygae or Purdella - they both breed nice dogs. Contacting breeders via phone has been best, in my experience. If they don't have litters available or planned then they will be able to recommend other breeders or you may really like them and want to go on a waiting list. Good luck! Hope you're ready for lots of hair everywhere! Oh, and don't get caught up on the tail or bobtail thing. Go for the puppy with the most suited temperament as tail length is so minor.

Hope it all works out, SG :) Jed your dogs are absolutely gorgeous!

Sharon Donaldson of Ausled kennels. Best breeder you could find.

Not at all, in my experience.

SS people who own GSDs and pembroke corgis often say they are verrrrrry similar. Might be a breed you could look into? Vallhunds are stubborn but I found mine very easy to train because she was clever; she picked things up really quickly. Easy to train doesn't mean she was gonna listen when I asked her though  Just need to be a firm, strong owner with them, which I am sure, as a Shiba owner, CGF already is :) My vall was also VERY sneaky and surprised us regularly throughout her life. Incredibly loving too. I still think she was the sweetest dog I've ever had the pleasure of living with. Big barker although not as easily set off as pembroke corgis (who will bark if they "think" they hear something, while my vall only barked when she did hear something - but she heard a lot of stuff  ). Back to the stubborness - I think valls also have a bit of a rebellious wild streak. Perfect example was that my vallhund knew she was absolutely not allowed to take anything off the coffee table. One day we had people over, sitting around the coffee table, which had some muffins on it. She walked in, looked at everyone and then looked at the muffins. I caught her eye and said "uh" with a stern voice. She looked at me, paused (I like to think she then contemplated her options), GRABBED a muffin and ran! SO NAUGHTY but it was also quite comical. A corgi would never do that  And if they did, they'd drop it as soon as I said. A vallhund? Nope! They'd gobble it down before you could even say anything  You should go meet some CGF!
