I'm contemplating entering Sarge in the ET in September but I need to find a place I can train him while I'm on the bike. All we have nearby is paths on roads, no cycle tracks or anything.

Yep I kept 2 of Sarge's baby teeth but didn't find any of the other dogs'.

Puppies hiccup a lot, no need to panic. ETA: They also breathe quite fast when sleeping and sometimes you may think something is wrong (and so wake them up a lot) until you ask the vet and feel totally stupid

Hmm maybe it is something wrong with his ear drum? I thought I had an ear infection a while ago (a lot of discomfort and irritation) turned out I had a tiny hole in my ear drum (have burst it twice before and this tiny hole was in the scar). Is his balance off at all? That would hint at an inner ear problem. I use Epi-Otic to clean the dogs ears, it is really good. Elle loves the vigorous rubbing Maybe get another opinion? I do not think something as simple as a small amount of wax would cause irritation. Only a large build up of wax would. Hope he feels better soon

For toys and blankets go to an op shop Lots of nice finds there for just a few dollars. There are usually cheap collars in coles, if the puppy is small then you could use a cat collar until it's too small. They also have harnesses. Old socks, stockings, t shirts, any clothes can be cut up and made into tug toys and things. We just made heaps for Daina because she loooooves tug but she ruins her toys so quickly.

There is one outside the vet clinic on the corner of Beaufort St and Central Ave in Mt Lawley. It is $10 a wash (gold coins only I think and I think you get 10-15minutes) and provides everything. There are a few shampoos to choose from (3 - dark coat, light coat, flea wash) and a conditioner. Also has a dryer and you have 30 seconds free at the end to rinse down the tub. It was very good when we used it and had a nice chat to the owners. Thanks for that info Mim, I might just go there next time, just for the dryer! I washed my Goldie at the vet's free hydrobath today. Brushed him first and got lots of hair out. Loads of hair came out while I was washing him and then when we got home and after he dried off 'au naturale', he got another good hour of brushing and there was STILL hair come off him by the handful!! I think the dryer would help blow a lot of the loose coat out. Do you know if you can you use it just for the dryer and not the wash? You can just use the dryer, or just use the rinse, or just use the conditioner, what ever you want. There's a knob thing and you just turn it to the option you want. Mind you it is $10 minimum so you'd be using the dryer for 10 minutes. Also be careful letting your goldie dry out "au naturale" ( ) on humid days as double coated breeds can get nasty hot spots. Sarge is prone to them He sheds like a maniac too. I filled TWO plastic bags to the brim the other day, full of undercoat, and afterward he was still dropping hair as if none of his hair was actually stuck to his skin! paddles- Dryers for dogs are supposed to just blow cold air, it's more to 'flick' the water out of the coat rather than use heat and get the dog all hot and bothered. All the groomers I've used have had these kind of dryers on their hydrobaths

Do You Feed At The Same Time Every Day?
Mim replied to Winterpaws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We are on a routine. Get fed around 5 everyday unless I can't until later, then it's no later than 7. The dogs can certainly tell when it's time for dinner and start coming to me or mum and whining and barking and wagging their tails. They don't like daylight saving because it means their body clocks are telling them it's dinner time but it's not. -
Grooming A Double Coat On A Scar Line...
Mim replied to MadWoofter's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hmm I really have no idea except maybe just trim that spot down? That would make it easier to get the loose hair out too as there would be no knots to get in the way :S -
The little tag line for this forum says behaviour discussions go here, so here I am! Well just then, I turned and looked into the hallway. Sarge was laying down and Daina moved to stand right in front of him so his nose was between her legs. She then let Sarge have a good sniff and then when he was done she turned around and tried to make him play. He noticed me watching though and just stared at me Why did she do this? Was Daina being dominant? She is a bossy boots and does dominate Sarge (ie; is always standing on his back during play). I don't see why a dog in a pack would "force" another pack member to sniff her though? Surely they already know her scent. These are desexed dogs.

Poor baby Ziva died the same way in September, 15 months old It's such a shock that they can be alive one minute and not in the next I know what you're going through and I'm so sorry.

I have some Paw Paw ointment so can try that. I've put socks on his front paws as he was scratching at it and didn't want his dew claws getting it. Puggy it's shallow so nothing to serious, I just don't want it to get infected. Thanks erny - I just put the powder on out of habit I guess. If I hurt myself it's always betadine + antiseptic cream and then some powder. Got a nice marrow bone in the fridge but nothing for the girls to have except carrots  they're going to give me looks of "what? why does he get a bone!?"

Sarge has managed to scrape the skin off the top of his nose. Can't get a photo of it because our cameras are broken but it's just a shallow scrape about 1cm long and a little less in width. I washed it with warm salty water and I've put betadine on it and some antiseptic powder but he just licks it right off! Any tricks to stop him? He doesn't care if it tastes bad  Does it matter if he licks it off? I'm worried it will get infected because he eats so many gross things (wee, cat poo, rabbit poo, guinea pig poo, bird poo, poo, poo) and keeps licking it. Can eating antiseptic hurt him at all? I can't find what he's scraped it on either. Borrowed a camera and got a picture of his nose

Daina won't eat her biscuits unless they are soaked in tuna oil/juice or have yoghurt mixed with it.

Ours get grated carrot in their dinner every night as a natural filler (especially for Elle who's on a diet). They also LOVE pumpkin ;) We freeze small bits of apple, pear and carrot in summer as treats or just give them each a whole carrot and they munch away. They tend to eat them in their beds though and it stains it orange. Daina won't eat grated carrot unless there's yoghurt mixed with it yet she will eat a whole carrot in minutes

How To Stop 8-9 Month Old Puppy Jumping Up On Strangers To Say Hello A
Mim replied to fainty_girl's topic in Puppy Chat
Daina is a jumper (6 months old). If she jumps on anyone she is told to sit and gets praised when she sits. This has made a noticeable difference with family members but newcomers still get clambered on. It's hard teaching the visitors what to do though, most of them bend down or bend over and pat her and get her more excited. I can't think of how you can get others at the park not to praise her when she jumps but I hope persistence from you will teach her -
Gosh that looks painful! Poor boy  Hope everything went ok today

I LOVE the one on the bed and the running shot with the stick! Absolutely great It's always handy to have a handsome dog to model as well.

I'll buy some Varta ones and try them Can you turn off the screen on any digital camera?

Hi guys hope you can help me. Both my brothers have Olympus FE-270 cameras and I have a crappy old Olympus FE-115 and an even crappier old Kodak bomb. My problem is, the batteries we use seem to run out after taking only 10 or so photos. It doesn't matter which camera we use so I suspect we are using the wrong kind of batteries. We had been using the same rechargeable ones for ages now so I thought they'd just reached their limits and bought some new ones. These only seemed to last a bit longer. So we decided to try non-rechargable batteries. These worked longer than the rechargables but still ran out too soon. What kind of batteries should we be using for digital cameras? I want something that is going to last a long time. I know batteries don't last for ever but any recommendations are greatly welcome We are so sick of having to take many spare pairs of batteries just to take a measly 30 photos. The rechargeable batteries we use are Energizer Rechargeable 2500 mAh and the non-rechargeable ones are Energizer Industrial. They are AA batteries.

Thank you Harminee I love it

Could somebody please make me a signature? I hope these pictures are okay to use. I'd like their DOBs under their names if it isn't too tricky. Elle 26/6/97 Sarge (either of these) 12/10/05 Ziva 20/5/07-6/9/08 Daina (either of these) 7/5/08 If the pics aren't good I'll grab some better ones from the corgi thread
