Could somebody pretty please try to edit out the hose in this picture? I'm hopeless with anything other than cropping so need to outsource

You might want to post this in the breeders section, they will be able to advise you

Hellooooooooo I've got no news either I can whinge about my sinus pain and uni exams though

I'd take them to the vet just to check that they aren't sick. To keep them cool you could buy some cool coats, cool collars or a cool mat/bed. I keep the water in my dogs' bowl cool by standing a frozen water bottle in it and they seem to really like the colder water. My puppy likes having a big frozen 2L bottle to lie with at night. You can also freeze treats (carrots and stuff) in something yummy (yoghurt, stock etc) or just water. If you don't have aircon maybe find a fan that you can put on the ground for them. My mum has a big fan in her room (she overheats even with the aircon on) and the dogs are always stealing it, they love it. My older dog (12) copes with the heat by sleeping all day and I put a cool collar on her if she gets uncomfortable.

I have my adult corgis on RC and my puppy has been on Advance, Eukanuba, RC and now Nutro. I was contemplating switching the adults to nutro but after searching on here I've decided to switch to Eagle Pack instead. My pup seems to be doing well on Nutro, no different to when he was on RC but he does better on both of these than on Advance or Eukanuba. I'm switching the adults from RC just to see if they do better on EP, they do well on RC but I am wanting to try lots of products to make sure they are eating the best one for them.

Golden Retriever - To Clip Or Not To Clip?
Mim replied to loulouB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Definitely not on a humid day. The hotspot is caused because the moisture is trapped in the coat near the skin so of course on a humid day there would be more moisture hanging around in the air and it's not going to leave the coat. On a very hot day I don't think there'd be a problem as she'd probably dry out thoroughly if she decided she'd had enough of the water. Sarge seems to be prone to hotspots and I always blow dry him well after a bath/swimming but these past few days we've had that have been hot, I've let them spend almost all day in their pool and then dried them after. I think because there's a flow of water and it's not the same little bit of moisture brewing away that it might be ok. But really I have no idea -
They are aptly named "marrow bones". Try not to feed these regularly, more like a treat, as the marrow is very fattening. Also, as they are weight bearing bones it means they are very dense and hard, probably not a good idea to give them to your puppy as it can break his teeth (can even break adult teeth)

I wonder if she'd force a vegetarian diet on her friends too.

Carots are full of Sugar :D Oh well, must be good sugar because it worked

We used pumpkin and carrots in hand with other vegies and a low cal dry food and lean meat to get Elle to a normal weight. She was absolutely obese and has lost 14.5kg :D

enna I'm sure if it's in a product made for dogs it can't be bad Don't think they'd be allowed to sell it if it was poisonous.

Sticking to American scientists, what about Watson? Hmm won't really suit a cute lil chessie though I like Lincoln/Link too.

We talk about different food for our dogs so often and people are always saying "my dog does/doesn't do well on X". But how is everybody differentiating what is 'doing well' and what isn't? Other than stools, coat, skin what do you look for?
-
Yep you can get toothpaste for dogs. Can't use human stuff because there's too much fluoride and the dogs don't rinse afterwards so they are ingesting it which you don't want. I use dog toothpaste when they don't get bones. They will all put up with it but only my puppy is willing and gets excited You don't get instant results, obviously, but I've been doing it on and off for about a month and there's definitely improvement so I'm sticking with it. Bought mine from a local pet supply store so don't know anywhere online.

Awesome. Not sure where you'd find that first one though, you can't order it from pookinuk. Maybe search DOL for perth eagle pack stockists?

This Eagle Pack Large and Giant Breed has chicken instead of lamb http://www.eaglepack.com/SP_LGAdult.html And I think this one http://www.pookinuk.com.au/product-selecte...p?productID=376 is chicken meal.

Golden Retriever - To Clip Or Not To Clip?
Mim replied to loulouB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yup don't clip it again. Since you've clipped it recently you might want to take a bit of extra care that she keeps cool this summer as it can take years for the coat to get back to normal. The undercoat and the top coat grow at different rates and currently her natural insulation would be all over the place. My friend clips her goldie and his coat is awful. When it grows back it is very coarse and wavey and thin. -
I was using the Eukanuba Puppy as it was a recommended example but my breeder has told me not to use a puppy food and they know more then me. I want to have a good relationship with my breeder so I think "defying" them or thinking I know better then them this early on will only cause problems. They say the dogs do better on an Adult food, so I will feed an adult food although I really don't see much difference between some varieties of adult food and puppy food, which I hoped to show with my example above. Ah, okay

valleywa, just curious why you aren't considering nutro large breed puppy, only the adult mix? These are the stats for nutro large breed puppy formula just in case stormie/sags want to compare.. Crude Protein (minimum) 28.00% Crude Fat (minimum) 12.00% Crude Fiber (maximum) 5.00% Moisture (maximum) 10.00% Linoleic Acid (minimum) 3.50% Calcium (minimum) 1.00% Calcium (maximum) 1.50% Phosphorus (minimum) 0.80% Phosphorus (maximum) 1.30% Zinc (minimum) 240 mg/kg Vitamin E (minimum) 160 IU/kg Ascorbic Acid (minimum)** 35 mg/kg Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) (minimum)** 0.20% Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) (minimum)** 0.10% L-Carnitine (minimum)** 10 mg/kg Glucosamine (minimum)** 300 mg/kg Chondroitin Sulfate (minimum)** 250 mg/kg **Not recognized as an essential nutrient by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles.

You can get eagle pack from here http://www.pookinuk.com.au/pet-products.asp?categoryID=72 it's a $5 cap on delivery for food. I haven't bought from the site yet but I've read good things on DOL. Eagle pack does look good, I just get so confused with all the holistic stuff. I think I might try my adults on eagle pack...the 8 "Wellness For Life" Custom Supplements are interesting.

He's only a corgi so not a large breed, I have him on the puppy formula. He has eaten the adult chicken and rice before though because I went to buy puppy biscuits and there was none in stock. He seems to really love nutro, not sure if it's because of a new taste to RC or because it's just yummier.

Nutro is good and chicken is the numero uno in their large breed pack and their chicken and rice adult pack. I've got my pup on this at the moment and considering changing the other dogs from Royal Canin to Nutro. You can read about it here.
