  1. Gorgeous WEIA! What do the cats think of her?
  2. Come to Perth, TD. My pembrokes are the most gentle creatures and would be perfect for someone needing to remedy a fear of the breed.
  3. Oh my gosh YES. This happens so often and it's actually ridiculous. You can even gain enemies just from providing information and advice!
  4. Yep, JulesP, the unfollow option is my best friend
  5. ^ ^ ^ This is me, exactly! Same here! I'm not in any frustratingly bad groups anymore and it's so much nicer to just be in sensible, friendly and informative groups. Still see a lot of stuff in my newsfeed that makes me shake my head though.
  6. Stainless steel for food and ceramic for water. Kmart just released new pet stuff and this is the cheapest I've seen a metal bowl with rubber grip: http://www.kmart.com.au/product/dog-bowl---stainless-steel,-large/831431
  7. So sorry that Renae has left you, Jules. She has had a wonderful life and I've loved reading about her over the years.
  8. I got a cheapie from ebay that works just fine. It handles my cat's coat easily. Might be worth looking on ebay?
  9. Also, check with your council rules re: leash lengths. My council considers "on lead" to be on a lead no longer than 2 metres. This means that if an oval in my council is on-lead only and someone takes a dog on a lead longer than 2m, they are considered off-lead and could be fined.
  10. I was reading about this just recently for a uni assignment. I was reading specifically about the thick coats of camels but it can be applied to other animals, like dogs, who have thick coats in very hot environments. Basically, thick coats actually reflect heat energy from the sun, rather than absorb it, so it's like having a special coat on that bounces heat away from you and keeps you cool underneath. This links to your humidity theory well because these desert animals with thick coats don't have to deal with humidity. So I would agree with you that it seems that thick coats struggle with the Australian humidity, rather than the heat.
  11. Yes, the vet is only speculating and you have no evidence that the greyhound did it. How can you be sure it wasn't a dog that passed by? It's a sad situation but all you can do is look after your cat and if the owners can't keep their dog secured then report them to the council each time it gets out.
  12. Really cool, raineth! How did you train it? My dogs will dig dirt on command so I think I could possibly transfer that command over to scratching at the board but not sure how else I could get them to offer that action.
  13. Yes! Each dog has their colour. Makes it easy to quickly identify whose bowl/lead/collar/harness is whose.
  14. I make the same as you, denali, but a heaped tbsp of the cinnamon because I was desperate to get rid of the pee smell! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to help my old boy at all, but I will keep feeding it until I run out of turmeric.
  15. I do this too! Two of mine will watch hopefully while people eat (despite never being given scraps) but the third will purposefully face away from you (sometimes you see him turn his head juuuuust enough so he can glimpse you from the corner of his eye  ). I show empty hands and say "no more" and they go find something better to do.
  16. I know people who don't do it but I do and have never had problems.
  17. Pembroke Corgi fits everything except drying off quickly. Without a force dryer mine would take hours to air dry, even after towel drying. There's also all the shedding to consider. Otherwise they'd be a great fit!
  18. Deb Nook is a vet who does chiro/acupuncture on her regular visits to Perth. My dogs see her when they need to (in fact two are going this weekend). You can contact her on her email debnook@westnet.com.au but might need to wait for an appointment as she is very popular and only comes to Perth every 6 weeks or so.
  19. Yep, another recommendation for Vebo from me!
  20. I sometimes walk past a fenced dog park and it seems to be becoming common for owners to sit in their car while their dog is in the park. Totally irresponsible, in my opinion. Especially so when there are other people and dogs using the park. If your dog is in the park, you should be too!
  21. I haven't noticed any difference in my arthritic boy with the GP but will continue giving it to all three of my dogs and then reassess once we finish the 1kg I bought.
  22. The shedding and barking! They are hair-dropping alarms
