:) Been there, done that. My Dobe would go from 8pm at night until 4pm then next day before I could get a sample. First you need clean used ice cream container. This you cut so that you have a shallow base with one corner left on it to use as a handle. Secondly you need a full day to devote to this task. Third you need to fill him with liquid. My home made soup was very popular! :D The vet may ask why the urine is so dilute, tho. Then you take said dog out on lead. As many times as it takes. The trick is to let them start peeing before you dive to get the sample. The theory being that once the flow is established, it is almost impossible for them to stop. So you get some since the poor bugger is pretty much full of it by the time she lets go! Good luck! :D Edit to add: Take the sample straight to the vet while it is still fresh. Saved me typing it out, that is my method too! :)

Heads Up Perth People (west Leederville In Particular)
Mim replied to Legion's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have friends who walk their dogs there (some of them are labs so will gulp down anything!) so will warn them. -
I'm taking two of the corgis to cottesloe dog beach on sunday :)

Why???? Because you will have a mis match of energy levels, I've seen this a couple of times. Dogs end up being separated or the older one being bombarded by the pup. Bear in mind the OP works full time, so they will be alone together a lot. If there are other distractions around it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue. You are making a lot of assumptions. Puppy and older dog can be fine. My own experience was that my older dog loved the new puppy and had a new lease on life. If the pup was too annoying she'd let him know.

Once you go to multiple dogs you never go back. Sure, there's more poo and barking but the joy they get from each other and the extra love you have for another make it more than worth it. The jump from one to two is nothing. It's the jump from two to three that makes more work (and adding a fourth is just like having three)

I have a plush puppy shampoo and conditioner and they smell so nice and really work for my dogs' coats :)

Dogs don't have mid life crises but I have noticed that my nearly-7-year-old boy has started acting like a puppy again  He is so playful lately, it's really fun.

I am going through this with my 12.5 year old foster. She's on her first course of cartrophen and has been getting acupuncture/chiro treatments every 2nd saturday since May, which I honestly believe is delaying the inevitable. Last visit she also had a B12 injection and she was the best she's been in a while! She is SO good after a treatment! Walking your dog on sand will improve the strength in those hind legs but start off with short sessions (~5 minutes). I also bought her a pair of boots since our house is all floorboards and tiles, they improve her grip and movement so much but the dragging of the right foot means the boot eventually moves out of place.

Oh Bailey, you cutie! I hope he heals quickly and continues to progress well When you see corgis with shaved patches it really shows how thick their coats are.

Oh poor boy! I hope he is on the mend as soon as possible :)

ampypie I don't have pet insurance but Deb always asks me if I need a receipt or anything for insurance so I think she can sort it out. She's a vet so I don't see why her services wouldn't be covered but then again, I know nothing about pet insurance Maybe send her an email? RS sounds like she knows what she's talking about

My old girl is having leg and back issues and I've been told that walking her on sand will be great to build up strength. First only for 5-7 minutes and then slowly build up (if you over-do it they'll just go backwards).

Subiaco Animal Hospital is great if you can see Greg. He is very good with the dogs and a thorough vet.

We have hardwood floors which have no marks from lots and lots of corgi traffic as well as large breed dogs who visit. Any marks on the floors are from moving furniture incorrectly or my brothers and I when we were kids.

Thanks for all the replies everyone :)

Hi, does anybody have a rough price for Cartrophen (I think I'm spelling that incorrectly) injections? If you have used Cartrophen for your dog, what sort of results did you get?

One of my friends has a greyhound, a british bulldog and a miniature dachshund. She gets a lot of comments

Do People With Full Coated Breeds Use Coats In Winter?
Mim replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
I've got corgis so thick double coats and come cold weather, they will seek out their warmer beds (eg, crate instead of the floor  ) but we did notice our 12.5 year old foster seemed a bit too chilly so we got her a thin polar fleece coat. She's quite comfortable with that on now, I think it's just right :) -
http://www.thepetchef.com.au/setup/ Used The Pet Chef for a while and he's good. Not using him at the moment though as I don't have enough freezer space.

I don't know about underlying health issues but you can treat conjunctivitis with human eyedrops from the chemist called Bleph-10. I think you do 1-2 drops, 3-4 times a day. Much cheaper than going to the vet.

What Is The Age Difference Between Your Dogs?
Mim replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I didn't vote in the poll as I have 4 dogs so that's a lot of boxes to tick  12.5 year old 6.5 year old 4 year old 3 year old Works well for us :) I don't mind have 2 so close together in age. They are the best of friends and I am glad they will be able to be old friends together :) If I lose them close together, I will be upset of course, but the joy I get from seeing them being so happy together makes it worth it. I could have two dogs with a large age gap and lose them close together anyway, large age gap doesn't avoid heartbreak of losing dogs close together. -
Greg at Subiaco Vet Hospital is brilliant. My mum has been going to him ever since she came to Perth and he's never let her down. When we had to put our Swedish Vallhund down he was so compassionate and understanding. And now, we are doing lots of tests with our elderly foster and he is so lovely to her, he really cares about the animals. There is one female vet working there who is an idiot though, I can't remember her name, but everyone else (vet nurses included) are lovely.

He's GORGEOUS hort! Where's he from?

I think this has been discussed before, but I can't be sure. If I boarded my dogs, I would not want them mixing with other dogs and would specifically state that both before and when I was dropping them off.
