  1. re: bonding - as others have said, give it time and it will happen. Moo didn't like being cuddled or picked up when he was a puppy, was more interested in our other animals than the humans and liked to be off on his own a lot. Now he loves to snuggle more than the other dogs, loves human company and is a very affectionate boy. Then you get the puppies who you are determined not to bond with and they decide to worm their way into your heart and become incredibly special
  2. One of mine weaned himself off lunches at about the same age. I remember thinking it was a bit young as my other dogs didn't do it till later, but I increased his breakfast and dinner and he was happy as Larry.
  3. First, a docked tail Short natural bob Longer natural bob (on the right) Full tail on a longcoat corgi Another full tail on a longcoat
  4. Will post a variety of corgi tails later if I remember!
  5. Vets around here don't even let you take the dog after being scanned for a chip. Chip or no chip, the dog stays at the vet and they rind surrounding vets and council pounds. If they can't find the owner it goes to the pound of the council where the dog was found and waits there. This has been my experience with 4 different vets upon finding dogs.
  6. Buy bowls that are ceramic or metal as eating and drinking from plastic bowls can give dogs pimples. There are some really lovely ceramic bowls available these days and I prefer them as the weight means they don't slide around much. Plus they keep the dog's water nice and cool.

    Bathing Puppy

I just wash my dogs when they get dirty, right from when I get them until the day they leave me. Never had any issues with skin due to over-washing or anything. I've never bothered with "puppy" shampoos either and have started using human shampoo recently with great results.
  8. I wonder how much light would be provided by the collar once it's hidden amongst Esky's fur? I'm no help sorry, EtH. Never used any myself or even seen them being used.
  9. You're getting TWO puppies instead of just one?! Tell usssss
  10. Yeah I thought they were going to cost much more. Would love one as a mailbox.
  11. http://www.etsy.com/shop/MyCountryHaven?section_id=12810332&page=1 Love these bird feeders/houses! They look great and I just can't pick a favourite!
  12. Does anyone know somebody who might like to adopt an amazingly sweet and active old dog? I'm fostering her for APS at the moment and she is just lovely! I wish I could keep her. She's lab x and I can see staffy and cattle dog in her, then just to mix things up she's got a ridge down her back  She's in good nick except for needing to shed some weight but that's easy to do. She love love loves going for walks and decided today that toys are fun too. She's incredibly good with other dogs and picks up on even the smallest of body language cues. She really just wants to be with people and get a pat every now and then. "Betty"
  13. Could you dose them with capstar and do a flea rinse now, and another one in a few days? When we had a flea outbreak a while back I did this (along with dosing with comfortis, but obviously that is not an option for you with breeding dogs) and it sorted things out. I have used Fidos itch free rinse concentrate and also Permoxin rinse. Fidos smells way better, is a bit cheaper and worked better (in my experience).
  14. My friend's dog has had this since they got her at 8 weeks, although it is not yellowy, it's more cloudy/colourless. She's seen vets who have tried antibiotics but it didn't clear up. It hasn't gone away since being desexed either. They have had a little breakthrough just recently after seeing a new vet, it was suggested it may be a link to allergies as the dog was licking her feet and had inflamed skin on her legs, chest, ears, typical allergy stuff. A course of antihistamines and so far no more mucus has been observed. It doesn't seem to affect the dog in anyway though.
  15. Don't shave a malamute! I'd be seeking a second vet opinion. Is she scratching at all? I had a dog take herself for a swim in a disgusting pond and the smell was gone after two washes.
  16. To get rid of sties you can hold a warm damp washcloth against the area for a few minutes, a few times a day. With this method it took 4 days for my dog's sty to go away. His didn't look like your photo though.
  17. Out of 4 females I have had two with pyometra. It scares me now and even though I want to show I think I'll only show males because I don't want to go through pyo again.
  18. He is not in pain, I have felt him over thoroughly (and he is a wuss and would squeal over the smallest bit of discomfort). He saw the vet on the 2nd of this month and no pain was picked up either. He has an appointment next week as it is the soonest he can see the vet who we prefer.
  19. He gets meaty bones (chicken, lamb, kangaroo), offal, fish, eggs, yoghurt, veg and fruit. Obviously not all of that every day though. If I'm lazy or pressed for time then he gets Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream.
  20. I sat him down tonight and had a good look. Between two teeth there could possibly be a tiny brown thing stuck, or some weird discolouration. Too awkward for me to get a photo. Tlc, his smelly breath is constant, no different during the night or day.
  21. Thanks, I will push for both of those to be checked for.
  22. Sarge is 7 years old and in terrific condition. He saw the vet earlier this month and she couldn't believe he was 7, which is very nice to hear! He got the all-clear for his heart, lungs, teeth, ears etc. For a couple of months now though, he has had AWFUL breath. His teeth are really good, he eats bones and I also brush and scale them regularly. He has the teeth of a 1 year old! Google tells me that bad breath can be gum disease or infected teeth, his teeth and gums are fine though. Another possibility was tonsillitis? Or a gut bug? He gets yoghurt regularly with live good bacteria in it so I'm inclined to think it isn't a gut thing? Mouth tumor was also a result but he let's me open his mouth up wide and I had a good look while somebody held a torch for me and there's nothing out of the ordinary. I don't know if dogs are the same, but when I had tonsillitis there was noticeable redness and I couldn't see any redness in his throat so I'm thinking it's not tonsillitis. What else could cause it? I plan to take him to the vet because it is so bad that nobody wants to have his head near them (and for a dog that loves cuddles this isn't fair). What should I ask the vet for? Would a bloodtest give answers? Could he need his thyroid levels checked? Precautionary antibiotics? Urine test? His ears and everything else on his body don't smell, and my other dogs don't have bad breath.
  23. The owners of the dogs pictured must be so proud! I'd burst with pride if any of mine were on stamps!
  24. Sarge developed this very annoying habit of throwing himself against the bedroom door when he wanted to be let in. The loud THUD was impossible to ignore. One morning I waited at the door and when he did it, I opened it and said "No!" and he gave me his adorable "I'm sorry I'm in trouble" eyes and slinked into the room. He hasn't done it again and has gone back to politely tapping the door with his foot if he wants to come in or go out. I had to mention it though because even though it's not happening anymore, it was soooo annoying at the time.
