A few days on and they're doing well on Nutrience. Missy is on Nutrience Junior for Puppy Small Breed. Roxy is on Nutrience Supreme for Small Breed. It's a bit of a task getting Roxy to eat hers and leave Missy's alone, we're having to watch meal time very carefully while they're on different foods. Missy doesn't seem to mind but Roxy thinks Missy is getting something nicer than hers and tries to swap There's also less poo's already!

A Lump Found On Missy
Roxy_and_Missys_Mum replied to Roxy_and_Missys_Mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yeah, she was actually vaccinated last week so maybe that's what it is, or possibly her microchip as some people have also suggested. I won't panic yet, we'll show the vet at puppy school. -
We've found a small lump in between Missy's shoulder blades in loose skin. The lump is loose and it's a small and round. It's in the same area where they get microchipped and she was microchipped about 3 weeks ago. Could the microchip have tissue growing around it? Is that normal? Or could it be a cyst? We're back at the vet Tuesday night for Puppy School so I can ask my vet then, but is it urgent enough to take her tomorrow (Sunday) instead? Can dogs get tumours like that or would it more likely be a cyst? Do you think they'll remove it?

Ok, I have just been to my local pet supplies warehouse and picked up Nutrience. I was convinced I was going to get Advance but the lady seemed to think very very highly of Nutrience, so I decided to go with that. It was also cheaper than the Advance in this particular store. I got the puppy one and the adult one, and we'll start them on it tonight! She said to mix in half of the pedigree dry food with it for a few days so they don't get an upset stomach. Thanks for your advice everyone!!!

I have a dog and a puppy (as shown in the signature) I currently feed my girls Pedigree dry food and wet food (half a bowl of wet food and half of dry food). Pedigree is the one that says on their ads "We're For Dogs" and they claim to only put good stuff in their food. Can anyone tell me if it's good for them? When I went to the local pet supply shop to get new beds for them, the lady asked what I feed them and she told me that I should only be giving them dry food? I feel bad not giving them some form of meat too though. They normally eat their wet food first so tonight I gave them only dry food first, then some wet food once they'd finished (to ensure that they actually ate the dry food if it's supposed to be better for them). My vet, however, told me to feed them human food and he said the whole pet food industry is a joke. What can anyone suggest for me to ensure that my dogs are getting a good healthy meal? One more thing, I give my puppy weet bix for breakfast (it's what the vet recommended - he said to use real milk too - not puppy milk). How long do I need to continue breakfast for a puppy? She's nearly 3 months old.

I understand the difference between Interceptor and Sentinel Spectrum after searching for and reading many topics in this forum on the subject. The only extra part that Sentinel has is flea control by stopping the fleas from breeding (Interceptor doesn't have the flea control). I know that Sentinel topics have been done may times before but my two questions are specific: 1) Is it better to use Sentinel alone or is it better to use Interceptor and Advantix to get better flea protection? 2) Also, I found this website which has 12 months supply of Sentinel. Is this genuine as I've never seen a 12 month supply before? http://www.petproductsontheweb.com.au/SentinalSpectrum.htm

The fleas must have come from Missy when I bought her home (she's 9 weeks old so just started on Sentinel this week). They are both on Sentinel Spectrum and now that they've had their once off Capstar tablet after I spotted a few fleas, should I be adding a flea preventative to be used with Sentinel on a monthly basis? If so, which flea preventative do you recommend for use with Sentinel? Should I use it long term or just for the next few months? Thanks all

I found fleas on Missy. I used the frontline spray earlier tonight and then I read on the net that the Capstar tablets are actually the fastest flea treatment. I went straight up to my vet (open late) and got Missy the capstar tablets. I gave one to her just before and then I realised maybe I shouldn't have given her both treatments on the one day? Should I bath her to get rid of the frontline that I sprayed on her, or will it really not matter having both as one was a spray and one a tablet? Please help! Edit: Also, as she is a puppy she has only just started on Sentinel Spectrum (which I believe only makes the fleas unable to breed), thus I had to use something that killed adult fleas.

Well that's a relief lol ...and now the question is, do I immediately stop this kind of behaviour? -

I called the lady who I got Missy from and insisted that she take the puppies to her local vet (who happens to be my local vet). She is taking them tomorrow. I called my vet and let him know if a litter of jack russell puppies come in tomorrow to have a good chat to the owner on how to look after a litter of puppies. Why on earth don't people de-sex their dogs if they don't know how to look after a litter of puppies? I'd love to experience a litter of pups with one of my girls but I simply don't have the knowledge or expertise to risk it, this is why Roxy has been de-sexed and Missy will be too as soon as she is 6 months old. I will take lots of photos of both of my girls on the weekend and post them here

The vet has given me worming tablets to use in 2 weeks time, then a week after that she's back at the vet for her 9 week injection so he will worm her again then. I have definately learnt my lesson about these "backyarders". She seemed so genuine, she even got upset to see Missy go. Maybe I should call her and explain the information that the vet gave me in case she really doesn't know any better. Personally, if my dog had puppies (it's impossible because I de-sexed my first at 6 months and Missy will be done at 6 months too) but if my dog did have puppies I'd call a vet and get proper advice on what to do. I don't understand why she didn't even do that.

I have posted about Missy in the general forum, but I thought I'd start a new topic for this. Missy is only 6 weeks old this Saturday and I'm not very happy with the breeder for making her go so young. I've had her thoroughly checked by the vet last night and she is eating very well. He's told me everything I need to do to look after her and he is confident that she will be fine. I wanted a JR puppy so I looked up in the local paper and found an ad for somewhere very close to my place. I went to see her and she was gorgeous. The lady assured me that she was ready to go so I bought her. I had no idea what age a puppy has to be, or anything about breeding etc. I trusted what the lady had told me. Anyway, when the vet saw her age he told me that she is too young and they hadn't even wormed or vaccinated her. She's had everything done now, and she did actually have worms because they're showing in her poo now that she's been wormed. I left a message on the lady's answering machine to tell her to urgently worm the other poor puppies. She was an elderly lady who I think genuinely didn't know any better. I am angry with myself for not doing the research myself before I picked her up, I just went by what the lady told me. I wrongly presumed that she'd had advise from a vet. Anyway, it's ended well as the vet said Missy is very healthy. She's eating 3-4 meals a day and is active. She's been vaccinated for her 6 week and will be going back for her 9 week and 12 week. I made a mistake listening to the breeder but at the same time I am glad that it was me who got Missy because if someone else got her they may not have had her checked so quickly or treated her with the care thats he needs. She sleeps cuddled up to me and I am doing everything I can to make sure she is happy.
