  1. Missy seems to have cut her tongue. When we came home she didn't do her usual excited bark, or even want to move much. We tried to get her to have some water but she wasn't interested (she is a big water drinker and never turns it down). She didn't have much trouble eating some ham but she couldn't do anything that involved sticking her tongue out. I put a little bit of peanut butter on my finger to see if I could temp her but she couldn't stick her tongue out to lick it off. With the heat today I'm worried she'll get dehydrated, so I've been hand feeding her some ice blocks which she seems ok chewing. Whenever she tries to poke her tongue out she gives a little cry with her tail between her legs. I got my OH to hold her with her head on his shoulder (she is used to this position as she goes to sleep like it sometimes) and I tried to encourage her to open her mouth. She eventually yawned and I saw her tongue which appears to have a cut or a hole in it. I've watched her closely for the past hour and she has started to drink with her tongue again (maybe the ice blocks numbed it) I'm not going to panic just yet, as she is eating (and now drinking as well). She just seems very sad and sore, poor baby. Do tongues heal fast on their own or is a trip to the vet going to be required? Edited to add: Missy puts everything in her mouth, she's most likely done it on a piece of bark or something. She may have even bit her own tongue somehow.
  2. What a horrible few days you've had *hugs* It's good to see Bella back up on her feet! ....and she stood up for the first time to see you, how sweet!
  3. I tried a few until I found one that my dogs actually like, and one that they seem to do good on (ie. shinny coat etc). Currently using Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken because it says it's for puppies and small dogs (and i have 1 puppy and 1small dog, so it suits them both which is a big bonus!)
  4. I had the same problem with introducing Missy to Roxy. Missy wanted to play (as young pups do) and Roxy didn't want a bar of her. Roxy would sit on the outdoor setting and watch Missy entertain herself but Roxy was petrified to go near her. The only answer is time, as you've noticed improvement with time already. Just look at my two girls in my avatar cuddling up together. They are best of friends now. It just takes time.
  5. I had great problems with Roxy when she was a pup. It was almost as if she didn't want to miss out on anything by going outside, so she'd do it right then and there in the loungeroom. When we moved to a new house and got Missy I had a bit of an easier time with her. Getting a doggy door helped with the process but it still took my younger one (Missy) a while to get the hang of it. If your girl has access to outside, she will eventually make it a habit of going outside. Just when I thought my dogs would never be toilet trained, it just happened! Missy is almost 7 months old now and hasn't had an accident inside for quite a while (with the exception of a few weeks ago when we bought her home from being de-sexed and she was too groggy to walk outside).
  6. Sorry just had to say, WinGus I love the quote in your signature!
  7. Roxy does this to anything she is trying to make comfortable (the couch, her bed etc). Missy has started to do it as well. We used to sit there and find it quite amusing how they'd go round and round in circles trying to get comfortable! However, we just got a new lounge suite this weekend and we've had to make a new rule, no dogs on the lounge at all. They've learnt already that they are not allowed on the new lounge suite, they got a loud "uh uh" when they attemped it. They got the idea pretty quickly. But teaching your girl that she can't go on a couch that she has previously been allowed to use could be a bit of a task! Maybe you could put a blanket down on the part of the couch that she uses, and teach her that she is only allowed to lye on her blanket which she can dig at all she likes. Changes are if there is a nice fluffy blanket on one end of the couch, that's the end she will want to lye on.
  8. She doesn't look too impressed in that photo though, they both have a bone to chew on but as you can see, Missy wants Roxy's and not her own! (they are identical bones) So she loves her food and even tries to steal Roxy's!
  9. Yeah good point! I don't want her to be porky! But I just want to make sure she's a healthy weight.
  10. (left one in the photo) There's no ribs or anything showing and she eats great but sometimes I look at her and think she looks a bit skinny. She is 6 months old and very active. Every other JRT that I've seen is solid.
  11. Awww this is the cutest topic ever! It makes me want another puppy but my youngest is only 6 months old so still in puppy mode Here's my two as puppies: Roxy (2.5 years old now, this photo was taken the day she came home) Missy (6 months old now, this photo was taken the day she came home)
  12. They're on the Nutrience dry food and it's great, I just wanted to get a can of the wet food to add a couple of spoons to their bowl as a tasty addition
  13. Do you know of any Nutrience suppliers who stock the canned food as well as the dry food? Either online or in Melbourne? Edited to add: I know they have their supplier list on their website but a lot of them only stock the dry food.
  14. Hey can ya stop fighting for a sec cauz I have another question I just realised that Nutrience has wet food cans too. Has anyone used them before? I'd love to try mixing some of that with the Nutrience Dry Food for some added taste (instead of the mince).
