yes go along to shows would be a good start and also join your states dog controlling body :D if you are wanting to show you must become a member for you that would be DOGSQLD try Googling it, sorry im not sure of the link, when you are a member you will get a magazine each month which has great articles and also lists of shows when and where they are on, and also you should try and join a local Kennel club this will also help, and also try and find a Breed club of the breed you wish to show if there is one, and again become a member,

Grand Champions & (new Title) Supreme Champions
Libertybrook replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
ok maybe we can have 3 levels of GR CH... ;) GR CH = 1000 Points SUPREME GR CH = 1000 Points, plus the 4 BIG's, or 1 BIS, OR 4 25 point CC's/ BOB's ULTRA OR OPEN GR CH = 1000 Points + the 3 BIS's, or the 10 BIG's all under different judges..... -
;) Glad to see they have the Neuter pointscore as well, and that BOB will be based on actual points awarded, not on numbers entered ;) and I also like that the amount of shows that count is limited. the only thing I dont like is the 250 entry show limit for awarding half points for classes in show etc, a number of our smaller country shows out West here are lucky to get 250 entries and for most people out this way they are the only shows they do, they very rarely if ever show in or close to Sydney. I think they should also drop the double points for shows over a certain number of entries ;) that also disadvantages country exhibitors, yes I know we have a choice not to enter, and you will never please all the people all the time, :D I might add I never expect to win these pointscores, I cant compete against people who can show week in week out all over the state, but I do still like to enter, its fun for me and I enjoy seeing others in my chosen breeds how they are doing and where they are going, and who is awarding them, and how my dogs in other states are doing :D :D but

Ag Shows Vs Regular Dog Club Shows
Libertybrook replied to stonecutter's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our first local Kennel club show for 2012 isnt until mid April, if we didnt enter our local Ag shows we would not show until then yes you have to be extra careful with dogs and gear at Ag shows, but we always have a group of us who sit together and keep an eye on each others dogs and gear ! -
what ever the system it will never suit everyone or be perfect........ cant please all of the people all of the time....

well it turns out its true,I was told at a DOGNSW Western Region meeting from a DOGSNSW Board member that said it was brought up at the ANKC conference in QLD a week or so ago and they said yes it wiill return to the old format gain a 1000 points (only) and your dog will get its GR CH Title, plus a new level of something like Supreme GR CH which includes a 1000 points + BIG's (number still to be decided on) and OR a BIS the finer details have yet to be nutted out but that gives you a rough idea, and hopefully should be in by sometime later in the year.

I found a couple of catalogues from a local allbreeds/Obedience double show held here out west from 2001 & 2002, it was interesting to read, not only the numbers entered more than 650 a day in the conformation section alone not including the obedience, now we are lucky to get 350 a day..... looking at the names of exhibitors and Prefixes, there are so many great dogs that have since passed on, but what was telling were the exhibitors that no longer show, and the prefixes that have disappeared as well in 10 years , Some could be they retired due to age and had no one to pass on the mantle to, but sadly for some because they were so disheartened with the whole showing scene and what is had become, especially in their chosen breed, back then a 25 point Challenge for a popular breed like Border Collies was common up here, let alone a 25pt BOB, now we are lucky to get 15pt BOB up this way. ok so how do we fix it ? there has been plenty of Judge bashing touted on here, surely it cant be all blamed on them, o like the idea of critiques, and full explanations when dogs are nil awarded so what can show committees do to help remedy the situation ??? any suggestions for upcoming shows, ideas or incentives to make showing more inviting ???
